  • Sony playstation 3 is the most unreliable system I have ever seen in my life. Unless you like the fear of never knowing if your system will even turn on or read a disk everytime you wake up or eject the damn thing, I wouldn't buy one. I left disks in the system for months because if I eject them to switch games it can take 6000 tries before it reads the game again. not lying over 8hrs of trying, It's a fucking miracle that any of the youtube videos even work. Anyways FUCK SONY and its bluray.

  • The only thing I know is I've spent well over 500 dollars this year to get these faggot systems to work. Which they fucking don't. One broke, paid sony 140, got it for a few weeks bam black screen of death when it turned on, lucky for me they sent me a new one which also broke within just over the warranty. My slim is has also been dead for 6-10 months. My advice is never buy a sony product, if you do you will experience a pyramid of failure for which the likes of Egyptians have never seen.

  • Hopefully some of what I said can help you with some problems you guys are having. The harddrive on my system isnt old and shouldnt have errors, I am no longer concerned about the blueray not working, other then it sucks but why in the hell is my netflix broken + all my games I bought from ps3 store won't load. How could me screwing with my bluray drive destroy netflix and downloaded games on my HD. This system makes less sense the more I mess with it, and I know quite alot about electronics.

  • Anyways the blue thing on the flat ribbon wire under the bluray broke off as I was working on it. But that didn't break until after I had all these problems. I taped it back onto the wire and still plug it in. MY drive is still getting power (because it auto eats disks) so I turned on my system with some plugged in and some not trying to figure out which wire did what. To my surprise my netflix doesn't work anymore now, yet I can have voice video cam chat, and youtube videos on it + sign in.

  • disks immediately or it waits 20 seconds when no disks are near it, ironically I saw a video where the guy had the same problem. And prior to that I plugged in my bluray drive with the tiny red/black wires NOT plugged in, and my system tried to auto eat a disk, I said shit I got his problem then realized mine wasn't plugged in and it fixed the problem. However my red/black are plugged in right now and its still doing it. So it sensing disks when it's not supposed to. Sorry this is so long.

  • Because once my old laser was back on the system, to switch lasers you must remove the top of the drive from the bottom, which in most cases caused me to encounter yet another dumbass problem involving the disk not being takin in correctly or ejected. So after trying to make it work right which I still don't quite know how, eventually it should have taken my dvd in and spun it and played a movie. However this is where everything went wrong. When turning on my system now, it tries to auto-intake.

  • *the laser I bought malfunctioned. Because this new laser wasn't makin my disks spin anymore, in theory my old laser could spin dvds atleast, that would prove if its the spinner motor or a laser makin the spinner not work. I'm certain a working laser must be in the system for any disk to ever be spun. Ruling out my spinner motor being broke. Well once I got my old laser in there, it seemed to work atleast more then the new one was, even tho neither read games at this point. It's quite tricky.

  • Also note the new laser at first lit up and moved up n down when the system turned on, until it froze the game and I restarted the system then the laser did nothing. I found out, "a working laser" will trigger your disk spinner to spin disk weather it reads it or not. (my old laser even though it wouldnt read games it still read a dvd movie I had and spun it full speed to load the dvd.) This is why I want to put my old laser back in. Because if it read my dvd, it proves the laser I bought cont

  • On the top right of the screen when the system was on it had the circle thing spinning indefinitely it never quit spinning as long as a game was in the system, and the disk in the system wasnt spinning at all. I question how the hell could it have worked, and then not worked from restarting the system without me ever messing with anything. Anyways I became very angry having paid 50 bucks for a new laser just to play not even for 10 minutes. I decided to put my old laser back into the BRdrive.

  • So I said you screw it and bought a new laser from this guy on ebay. The one I needed is KEM-400AAA he sent me a KES-400A, so I tore everything apart, put in the new laser, rebuilt everything, put a disk in and to my surprise it read a freaking game, installed it and let me play mw3. This is when you would say holy shit it works. Sadly that feeling was very short lived. For it only took 1 game of mw3 before my system froze. When I restarted it and it turned back on, my disks wouldnt spin at all.

  • I have a very interesting story for everyone. 4 months after receiving a ps3 refurbished from sony, it quit reading disks, just like the one they replaced it for. So check this out, my laser would still read dvds, just not games, also note, leave a game or dvd in the system and turn it on, see if it spins the disk at all whatsoever, I will tell you why later. My laser that would not read games, would still spin the disk of the game however it wouldnt ever spin it fast enough to load. con't.

  • My Xbox 360 DVD drive never dies...Just saying

  • I have a slim PS3 which isnt reading blu ray discs (DVDs and CDs are fine) so I think following this guide could solve the problem.

I have a couple questions - how different is the guts of a PS3 slim to a PS3 fat? Would this tutorial be relevant for PS3 slim issues?

I also have an old fat PS3 that is also broken (but I think the blu ray disc reader was not the fault) - could I use the spare laser from the my fat ps3 as a replacement for my slim ps3?

    Thanks for the help,

    BryceGlen

  • watch?v=cKsrKJtKJJI help?

  • So crazy how they have machines that do this in 5 seconds..

  • i came here to learn how to fix not replace. well it was fun anyhow

  • man dude thanks

  • If your blu ray drive does not spin the cd, is it always your laser that is not working and needs to be replaced?

  • ★★★★ this is a replacement video, i thought you would repair the laser and do it yourself, if that is even possible. which it probably is because anything is possible...maybe someone out there smart could explain why the laser breaks and how it would be possible to "fix" or why it wouldn't be possible to fix. THANKYOU i will be waiting for your answers, top answer gets a Lollypop.

  • nice video m8

    just a question....where from can I buy a cheap laser for a PS3 40GB????

    Thanks mate

  • for everyone looking for the replacement diodes

  • @nestor14 cock sucker

  • those fecking zif connections are bloody annoying!

  • please help i snapped the red and black cable on the side of the disk drive and lost the little yellow connector how can i replace it ??? what are the wires or the connector called ?? please help

  • Man this video has some beasty bass every time a truck rolls by. Also thanks for the video it made this a very simple swap, though I found those silver and black screw drivers didn't provide enough torque to remove the bracket screws. Once switching to a screwdriver with a fatter handle they came right off.

Also for anyone thinking of doing this swap I wouldn't bother disconnecting the controller card since it isn't necessary to remove the laser. Just have to disconnect the ribbon to the laser

  • I like at 2:48 when the laser is face down on the table.

  • i did not see any repair work done, all i saw was parts replacement.

  • @AntiMusick ...thus repairing a reverent problem or fault...duh

  • @CassettePlaya1 yes Parts replacement that a homer can do ... Doh!

  • @AntiMusick So what do you think the major tech companies and organisations which make these products do when they take your device in to repair? Hack and slash at it until its "repaired"?

They too just use newer parts and that still counts as a repair as again its fixing the problem.

  • my laser has failed so am buying a new one of ebay, this tutorial will come in handy :)

  • Replaced a faulty KES on my ps3 and it still couldn't read, but after wiping the disk everything went smoothly.

  • good vid bt i wanted to no y my ps3 isnt playing my discs i put it in and it makes a noise and then doesnt show up

  • alot of ppl including me have the same problem. i took mine apart to clean the lense and fucked it up more so if it gets to that point ur gonna have to replace it bc the recent update fucked the shit out of alot of ppls lens

  • listen! the black and red wire does it come off easily? and what about the black wire with the sticker on it before opening the very black box of your drive?

  • what gig is that ps3? 40,60, 80, etc... and what model was that replacement lens?

  • Great tutorial mate. It gave me the confidence to remove my PS3 from Ebay and fix mine. Mine's a little different inside (2007 40gb 2 lens'). I first replaced the laser and it made weird noises and didn't work, so replaced the whole mech, and worked a treat. Made me think though, the old laser could be ok, but the mech was faulty. 5 *! Ta.

  • how different is the 2007 40gig mate? Gonna atempt fixing mine.

  • you should check the PS3 lens chart, i think it depend on the model of your ps, its in the back , CECH ..........

  • you know in the end of part 1 of this vid . the black wire that come off, thers a stiker with it ,before opening the drive black case, he says dont worry about! well do you have to stick it back when assembling ????
