@Zebonka Tap was a compilation of many bands yes it was a fun flick but not to be taken at face value.sweet were a great glam band that became a prog band with pop hits they have their own spot in rock and roll like T Rex or Slade and Mott the Hoople
This was the first record I ever bought. I purchased it with my 11th birthday money in January 1974, I think it cost me 30p. I'm quite proud of this fact...although it's somewhat tarnished by the confession that I also purchased "The Wombling Song" by The Wombles on the same day....
O my god this is so cool.I love this song and this vid is a gem.I saw them in 1975,I was 14 this band was the best of glam and then as a prog band they rocked harder.
@ucammark that's what i would like to know too, so what if they miss a note? so what?? most of us were too f**ked up to notice anyway! and i know a couple of bands that screwed up in the studio, and they went ahead and left it on the album. for example mamas and the papas, "i saw her again" he accidentally starts to sing, "i saw her--- and stops, but they left it in the song. there's another band but i can't remember right now, but what is the big deal? it's all good, right!!?
I thought for playing live in a tv studio that sound was brilliant - the harmonies excellent - musicianship great - when you think there's only two instruments playing, the harmonies make up for it, they're like another instrument. Top band without doubt
@rus524 Sorry wrongly informed. With exception to Gary Glitter all others were straight Heteros. l met them in the late 60's and the early too late 70's. Sorry mate great bunch. no blow jobs were given at the interviews
These guys were great musicians, vocally amazing, wrote some great songs. I saw Mick Tucker, Steve Priest touring as the Sweet many years ago. Still great, Mick Tucker was an amazing drummer/vocalist. They played the Cubby Bear in Chgo back in the 90s.
The shame is they were invited to back The Who at Charlton in the summer of 1974, and on this sort of form, would've given Pete and co a run for their money. Why didn't Brian keep his fists to himself during that altercation? Things could've been so different........
Instead Queen came along, and pretty much ripped off everything Sweet did. Frustrating.
mick tucker was way ahead of anything at that time him and cozy powell and maybe don powell were all awesome drummers..........love sweet and what they gave to music................rock band for sure
The Sweet rule! What a great band with awesome, fun music.
They were very influential to a lot of great bands, including heavy metal and I'm a huge metal fan. Look at bands like Saxon, Nuclear Assault, and Girlschool that covered them. If you listen to "Sweet Cheetah" by W.A.S.P., they basically borrow the opening riff from this song.
Thanks Sweet for making great music and influencing the great music that descended from you. \m/
out of all the videos on youtube., i love this one the most. just the look of the band here, the singing and brian is awesome. i love to watch steve's eyes when he sings. i would love toturn back time and relive this decade. thank you for this video.
you know wuts good about music now a days? Somethings gotta come along thats gonna get people excited about music.(Maybe even Wolfmother or Shinedown.) I just wish the teenagers would stop listening to the bullshit music they listen to now.
Sweet was an incredible band! I wonder (and doubt) whether music as fantastic as theirs will ever be made again! My other 70s favorites (to complete the top 5 in no particular order) were: Queen, Kiss, Abba, and the Village People, all so different, over the top and colorful.
Great video version of this song! I haven't seen this one (& I own a lot of their stuff on DVD). Thanks to who-ever posted this. These guys are so awesome and talented! RIP Brian & Mick. Very much missed.
that was pretty amazing. i wonder if they had any overdubs? there are certainly no keys and i only hear one guitar, but i wonder if there are overdubs for vox. they are really tight.
No overdubs on the vocals. These guys really were that tight. Even in the studio the backing vocals were usually all done in one take with Andy, Mick and Steve singing together at the same time, i.e. not layered tracks of individual harmony parts.
And this video shows that Brian was a great vocalist. No realtime auto-tune back then.
The Sweet were extremely talented individuals who never really got the props they deserved...their glam image overshadowed their talent
