The most beautiful music ever, Makes me cry so much, so delightful, beautiful, freedom and cadence, romatic, and deep, Bethoven-Toscanini The best !!!!
Maestro Toscanini was inmersed in the text, enjoying the music, for this reason was the best.
Maestro Arturo Toscanini is so profound, precise & awesome conducting the tempo, nuances & subtleties of this Beautiful mvt, so are his musicians, can hardly await the chorale's performance...Thank you Ludwig van Beethoven, your brilliance & genius are so majestic...Thank you very kindly aqbbjorko for uploading this powerfully amazing mvt!!
The biggest "problem" with the NBC was Toscanini's seeming indifference to the quality of his woodwind players. In Italy, in Toscanini's era, woodwinds were still referred to as "strumentini", a pejorative--"little instruments" that didn't matter so much.
While the brass and bassoons were always great in the NBC, the flute, oboe and clarinets were often weak players. This is evident here in Beethoven's slow movement where the inadequacies are rather glaring. A conundrum to be sure.
o my god!!!! the soprano is anne mcnight, who later had a great career as Anna De Cavalieri! at the time she was 22 years old!!!!!!!!! She is born in 1926 and she still lives. i know her peronally. bravo Anna!!!!!!!! thank you, abbjorko so much for this fantastic document! you made my day:-))
yes, of course. red seal released the complete toscanini/beethoven cycle. if you dismiss the rather poor sound quality (at least there's no hiss sound) it's quite excellent. a different perspective on beethoven, so i'd get more than one cycle. furtwanger and abbado are great too.
Compare this 3rd movement of Toscanini with that directed by Herbert Von Karajan. I like Toscanini better. With him, the oboe has more freedom to play.
i love so much the flexible sound of the great american symphony orchestras (boston, chicago, new york, philadelphia, cleveland etc...) but in the nbc were at the time the "creme de la creme" of the best musicians of the country! god bless america! god bless maestro toscanini

I used to think it didn't get better than Karajan. I was wrong.

beethoven riusciva a scrivere con la parte più profonda del suo animo.......senza dubbio è stato il compositore più completo in assoluto

@ipmoic To be more precise, "strumentini" is the diminutive of "strumenti"; the pejorative is "strumentacci".

yes i agree. Karajan maybe sounds more polished but with Toscanini, imo, you find surprises here and there and a much more distinct style.

The 3rd movement of No. 9 is one of the most beautiful piece of music ever written.
