@BonIverSUCKS you really have too much hate. you can like whatever you want and thats great and nobody will complain, but generally speaking the people watching this video came here because they enjoy this guy's music, and i just don't understand why you have to go around every bon iver video on youtube and bitch about it. it makes absolutely no sense?
@dconn24 Erm...as far as I can see he's using an electro-acoustic here, because if you look under his left arm you can see the F-hole, or the long f cut out of the body. This gives the guitar a more acoustic tone and also increases the volume a bit. So he is basically using an acoustic, although he probably just wanted the amplifying properties of an electric. Maybe... :/
A lovely and authentic version --- thank you for posting.
Does anyone happen to know if the dual microphones are used/treated to get the double-track/stereo(ish) effect on the original recording ? (by delaying or prrocessing one side, perhaps?) Just a guess....
@Numiful - the Canopy is a small venue. It was no problem to elbow my way up front. Actually, I wasn't going to post this video at first because the ending is cut off, but my brother told me I should anyway. Justin's performance kinda outshines the imperfections in the recording. It's like life. Beautiful while it's here, but often cut short.
Check out a cover of Flume by searching Ramble and Wake. Check out the originals titled Pills and Coulda been bad as well. Pease comment and let us know what you think. Any feedback is good feedback. Thanks.
i was with my brother and his wife when he took this video and sadly his camera battery died before the song finished. was so glad to hear this song as it's my favorite off the album. they weren't even going to play stacks until someone called out the request. can't wait to see what bon iver does next.
a capo basically raises the pitch, but in this song he uses a different tuning . with a capo to basically change the tuning again and make it easier to play different chords
@wepmajoe man, every male can access falsetto as soon as he hits puberty. you're either a chick or a kid, it's fucking science stop beaing a fuckin spastic
gutted about the end of this vid... the last line of this song ... 'your love will be, safe with me' quite litterally makes me bawl every time. Great artist.
I think Jònsi from Sigur Rós has the best falsetto as such, but I love Justins voice. It has more of a personality. I`m gonna see Bon Iver in August! Yay! :)
He most likely is... as a fellow musician, it's sometimes difficult not to tear up while singing a song in such a powerful moment with so much personal meaning.. if that makes sense..
P.S. does anyone know why he double mics his vocals?
not sure if this has anything to do with it as he doesn't seem to be using both mics at the same time, but you can hear he's double-tracked all his vocals on the album, so perhaps its that he's going for that chorus-type sound.
an alternative is perhaps the other mic is going through different processing and effects units for a stylistic difference in sound, perhaps he uses this in certain songs.
Meric Long from the Dodos always plays with 2 mics, one of them has a normal sound and the other with reverb so he switches for certain parts. Hes probably doing something along those lines if i had to take a guess
Jeff Buckley reincarnite? High-five man great stuff. We should sneak into record shops at night and put this cd in all of the new Kanye West sleeves imo.
I agree pepp. It kind off reminds me of the Seattle scene in some respects-not the music itself obviously- but the honesty and integrity of those bands is something that Justin shares.
I know what you mean about the seattle connection. His music has the same feeling, at times, that say, 'Hunger strike' has. Music does matter so much. It speaks to people, comforts people.
don't know if you still need it as you've probably found it or worked it out by now, but the tuning without the capo is D A D Gb A D, like one big D chord. he puts the capo on the 6th fret here but i think on the CD its 7th fret. maybe his voice wasn't feeling up for doing the high notes. what a beautiful voice though.
