hey man maybe you should check your ego. from personal experience i know it's not just technical know how that makes a great sax player. it's about how the music moves you. most educated musicians i've worked with are flat on their feet and have no soul if their life depended on it. they know their stuff but do they move a crowd? i'd say 9 out of 10 times they don't.
the greatest musicians in my opinion don't need sheet music.
@baldman00z dude all ill smoke that shit all day i play the sax back in the day and i had to memorize the song by ear because i hated reading music. They said i was gonna be really good one day.
I saw OAR tonight in Grand Rapids and Jerry performed amazing. He came out and played with Elmwood, opening act, and played a five minute sax jam with their saxophone player.
jerry is a nice guy and a great player. particularly well suited to the band he's in. why do people try to judge and compare? if you like his music enough said. and for the record how many "studied" players are making serious dough being studied players? it's possible to measure greatness in different ways
anyone that thinks this is A-level achievement in saxophone playing doesn't know anything about saxophone playing. it's fine to like it, and to think it's the most amazing thing, but if you don't play the instrument, and you don't know who Mike Brecker is, don't get into an argument about it. I doubt this guy Jerry, whoever he is, would make any claim to greatness.....
@subframer Hey man. I totally agree with you. As a saxophonist, I know that this isn't really what we would call amazing. However, I have a friend who is touring with OAR this summer, so he knows Jerry personally. He is over at his nice house and talks about it. Basically, Jerry is good enough and he's well off. He also says that Jerry knows that he's not a top caliber saxophonist. But he still has a nice house.
you just ticked me off thats all, really shouldn't put down others ---your style and tech. shows a deep amount of study, someone has to keep classic jazz goin,
funny reading the comments here..........I can only say that this guy is in the zone, and I love having that feeling too...... of just jamming and hearing the crowd cheer. What he is playing fits the song
i understand where your coming from and everybody has different veiws but jerry is a good sax player and ik there is beter but he isnt as bad as you make him out to be
He's not very good. This is the sad thing--that there are people who think that being in a popular rock band has any correlation to possessing outstanding musicianship. I'm glad to see people listening to a saxophone player and digging it...it's just too bad that there are people out there that (clearly speaking out of ignorance) think that this fellow is a great saxophone player.
jerry is an amazing sax player if you listen to him backstage he is extrodinary at jazz and all the styles and as for the coment below he isnt a coltrane or any of them but rock and funk are extreemly hard to learn on sax belive me and we havent seen coltranne belt out a solo like this weve just heard his amazingly fast licks and tone but in a different style of music jerry is unbelivibly good at sax
its not nonsense, Its called playing outside the changes. Listen to brecker, parker, cannonball, coltrane, thats what made them great they played out then in then back out. Listen and learn Jerry is just a professional doing this as a career.
In the words of the illustrious Kenny G (Gorelick, not Garrett):
"Because any time, I know that if I wanted to, I could play the fast Coltrane licks, and if I need to play soulfully, I can always play in a certain kind of style."
hey anybody have the tenor sax sheet music for nasim joon, i have the parts written out but i need the solo so if anybody has that it would be great thnx
usually people who move around while playing instruments are playing something easy like a shitty guitar solo for some teen rock band, not the case here thought his solo is awesome.
i'm fucking going to college for sax and i'm telling you this is not nonsense. the guys phrasing is phenomenal. also, its modal so it the way he moves through the chords might sound weird to an untrained ear. but then again, if you thought that this was nonsense then i wouldn't expect you to grasp anything i just said
That was from GMU the night before MSG2...and the song is "Anyway". I think I was standing next to the guy that took this video lol...awesome concert, and amazing sax solo's. I love the way he moves while playing, it adds so much energy to the performance. Jerry Depizzo is the man.
dude are you serious.. "greatest sax solo" i think not. check this out.. "Chris Potter. Train" or John coltrain

Greatest Sax I have ever heard. I play alto, and I love saxes in bands. People forget how great of an instrument it is.

omg i hate the way he moves around. It's WAY too distracting, but it was a pretty good solo
