  • 5:30 is featured in the Anyone Can Play Guitar film, the documentary about the Oxford music scene. Tara is interviewed.

  • Brilliant band. Met them when they came to the States for a few gigs in Autumn 1991, very nice fellas and they were pleasantly surprised we'd known of them prior from their "Catcher In The Rye" on an old 1985 mod comp LP!

  • love it , once supported orange deluxe at bolton uni

  • oh, i wasnt having a go at all...its amazing to see/hear this after all them years !!! just wondered if anyone had like an mp3 collection of all there released stuff, bsides n all...

  • I wasn't taking it that way. My gripe is with youtube and how crappy they converted the video when i uploaded it. I only have their album "Bed" on CD.

  • ok...yes it is but in good quality, ...a collection of 5:30 stuff would be nice....anyone ??????????????

  • It's good quality over here. It's not my fault YouTube wants to pixelize everything!

  • please, let me know where i can dl this stuff.....i remember the band back in the day....would love to have there stuff....

  • It's right here!

  • brilliant track!

  • the loudest band i've ever seen! trent poly small room!!!

  • モノホンの切れ味。ジャムとか?関係ない。モッズも関係ない。文脈が途切れた地点での存在証明。知的過ぎるし、危うすぎる。

  • Jeez, I think at was at pretty much their first rehearsal session back in 1983 in Burford, Oxon, - oh and then sorted the gig at the Clacton mod run in 84..... wonder what happened to Tara?

  • quality stuff! I saw them live at the marquee. remember it being one of the best gigs I ever attended. the bass player was throwing his rickenbacker across the stage towards the monitor mixing guy...maybe he didn't like what was coming out of his monitor speakers..?

  • excellent song, so fucking cool, do anybody know where can i download it?, and also the other one called " junk male"

  • I did gigs there too!, what band where you in, I saw a lot of bands there also, and bletchley counterpoint, the pitz northampton irish centre

  • @lynus111 I was in a band called Aquasense, then latterly in a band with Steve Scibarras called Poppy CoDeans

  • I saw these play in the MadCap theatre UK, Ive also got the album Bed very very good band

  • Ha, I was there too. Saw quite a few bands at MADCAP - played there myself a few times too - cheers!!

  • Cool. I was there too. Used to play in a band Ablemesh many years ago.

  • @thelastmuseum - who are you? Gordon, Mark, Alan or Shaun?! ;)

  • YouTube's poor sound quality really screws with the guitar in this.

  • quality......fkn gd.....blue boy

  • have memories of Tara sawing the mike stand

    with his bass - legend!

  • Probably 5.30's finest moment in terms of song. These guys for no good reason go down in the almost made it category which is a killer when you listen to the quality of the bed album - million times better than some shite like Ocean Colour Scene! Met up with Tara several times before/after gigs and at Glasters and was always a great boy. Supported the Nubiles at the Falcon a couple of time and used to support one of Paul's band Orange Duluxe down in Sussux a few times.

  • please someone, anyone upload more of their stuff, espcially their e.p stuff, air condition nighmare, or you, abstain, anyhting..

heard tara is doing solo album , .. ace live band, saw em bout 30 times, 2 yrs too soon or they'd of fucked over all bands who followed, shame really.

  • a lost classic . saw them a couple of times in london . good nights out happy daze !

  • comment removed at request of poster - not censoring here

  • mid90s mod pop, great track

  • Love this troop, anyone able to post up Air Condition Nightmare EP - Judy Jones? my vinyl got melted (don't ask) v cool takes me back to seeing bands like OCS supporting Jesus Jones in Bristol studios club and early Primal Scream at the Kandi Klub

  • Met them at the Derby Dial gig back in '91 thanks to a recommendation from old college mate Nick as the band knew his sister. First main gig I went to and one that is still the benchmark. Always remember standing on a speaker singing (yelling) my arse off to Abstain right in front of Paul staring right back singing (yelling) it right back. Awesome. Point in my life I would give anything to go back and see again. Check out their back catalogue. Definately worth a punt. Could have been contenders.

  • Yeah the bass player was called Tara. Says it all really. Remember when Mark Goodyear did the new band thing and they played Shefield, fucking class! Shame eh? But they wouldn't be here now as they ain't the Charlatans. Is he in a band with the guy from Hurricane No 1?

  • Check out The Eskimo Project the lead singers new band.

  • top band..just found this cd single on ebay

  • fantastic

  • top band i seen them in the small tent at reading and then in the umist in manchester they were shit hot

  • Great band, saw them 3/4 times live. Still have the album, best track is You

  • This is the legendary three piece band.Cry baby forever.

  • Great band. It's a disgrace that they never made it to the top when sh*te like The Stereophonics sold shed loads.

  • Found this on a Yahoo search. But I can't find the dang single on i-Tunes. What is with that? I want the song for my iPod cause it is still a great song.

    Great video too.

  • hence the reason i still use a cd player

  • recently the bass player had a band called nubiles....but he walked off halfway through the set!

  • I was under the impression they were from Leeds and there was some link with them gigging and the Leeds casuals. Where did I hear this rumour?

  • hi, no there wernt from leeds, as for casual, they were more mods, and my sisters mate, she use to lend tara tops b4 he went on stage. they should of went to the top, their live gigs were amzing

  • i auditioned for these

they said they liked funk but slagged off James Brown ?

where are you now boys ??

    working in Waitroses ?

  • Well, the bass player formed the Nubiles and the guitarist formed Orange Deluxe (they were OK, gigged with them a couple of times) but none of them made it big.

  • i thought they may be related to supergrass ?

    oxford connection maybe ?

  • hi spadege, thet were from reading ,the grass from oxon, although after 5.30 split, tara was in supergrass b4 they got famous.....,which was a shame.although the grass done okay.

  • Boy, this takes me back!

  • saw them in chelmsford (Essex Uk ) fantastic

  • nothing to do with the bullshit newrave or anything... 90's brit live forever

  • saw this band over 30 times. loved them. was 18. saw them in camden falcon about 10 times. they were amazing live. suggs managed them, then alan mgeee, then , they split. wish they hadnt, anyone got any more vids clips, any live bits? . if the single " you" came out now, ut would be HUGE.

  • a brilliant band, the records were only the starting point. the night at the marquee when tara turned his bass into matchsticks will remain with me forever.

  • Love their song ABSTAIN, anyone got that?

This one is a bit "Fools Gold". Saw them at Reading '91 and tent was jammed. Pity no-one bought more of their records.

  • Yeah, that Reading tent gig was someting else. Seem to remember Tara almost taking Paul's head off when he lobbed his bass.

  • MOD RULES!

  • They were (to my mind) by far and away the best band around at the time. This song is one of the few that sounds a bit dated due to the bagginess of it. The rest stand up very well against today's bands.

Anyone got a clip of "Supernova"?

  • 2nd Only To The Roses!! Amazing Band.

  • fucking mega choon..love this band

  • non stop baggy rock - about fucking time

  • Under-rated very good band at the time, original, done a good cover of the Beatles Come Together
