Utopia, i.e. a perfect world, cannot accommodate for life as perfection means there is no way of improvement, it is the best it can be. Life is dynamic and so is constantly changing and as any change to perfection creates imperfection. Therefore as a final act of replenishing this Utopian state the spirit, or whatever it is, must destroy its own life by turning itself to stone, recreating perfection.

Our entire society is highly dependent on fossil fuels, for example. Fertilizer is made by freezing air to get nitrogen then turning that into ammonium nitrate. That's done mostly with natural gas and coal. Take those away, and you have 5.5 billion people dead in a year.

The point was: a star fell, it woke a sleeping creature, the creature destroyed the world, the world exploded sending the creature out into space to land on another planet (with trees that look surprisingly like earth trees), when it landed it went back to sleep/became a rock... it is just waiting for another star to fall and wake it.
Isn't it great how we can all have our own interpretations... even different interpretations depending on mood. And each one is valid. Art is wonderful.

I didn't quite get the connection with the atomic bomb thing but I got the message. It could be any other thing. Anyways it's a beautiful work, lovely animation!
The way I read it, he waits on the planet until awakened by a catastrophic event. Thus the title. After which, he destroys the planet. To relate it to earth, perhaps there is one of these beings waiting somewhere for an asteroid to strike or for everyone to fire the nukes at the same time. After which, our planet may spontaneously explode.
Overall, an incredible achievement for one person. I love the color and the ethereal feel. Nice short idea.

This, in my opinion, is one of the best Classic Animations VFS has ever posted.

I looked at it over and over but still did not get the point. I read some of the comments and still did not get the point of this animation.

The point was: a star fell, it woke a sleeping creature, the creature destroyed the world, the world exploded sending the creature out into space to land on another planet (with trees that look surprisingly like earth trees), when it landed it went back to sleep/became a rock... it is just waiting for another star to fall and wake it.

The way I read it, he waits on the planet until awakened by a catastrophic event. Thus the title. After which, he destroys the planet. To relate it to earth, perhaps there is one of these beings waiting somewhere for an asteroid to strike or for everyone to fire the nukes at the same time. After which, our planet may spontaneously explode.
Overall, an incredible achievement for one person. I love the color and the ethereal feel. Nice short idea.
