Okay lets get this straight. Protoman can deflect attacks with his shield and take not damage. BUT if he doesnt use his shield he takes double damage. That was the flaw in protoman, thus why he has the protoshield to protect himself.

The flaw in protoman is his damaged core. if you played Megaman And the Power Fighters, you should know. in the end Dr.Light tries to convince protoman into being repaired, but proto denies.

Protoman first showed up in MM3 where his attacks were actually meant to be special training to help Mega Man. In MM5 Willy framed Proto for his crimes. The cartoon had him as a villain because the writers wanted Mega Man to have an enemy who was his equal. (Bass came later) this pissed off the fans hence the show's short run. In the games Proto Man is a hero. He's something of a bad ass loner but he's a good guy.

At first in Battle Network, I thought Megaman's ability to copy souls and their abilities was just an added feature. But now that I remember the original show and after seeing this video, I remember that Megaman did have the ability to copy his opponents powers. The rest of the Beast series finally makes a lot more since to me now. I feel pleasent now that I have good memories. And I just remembered protoman always had a shield :D
