I've been listening to this composition for 50 years performed by the greatest violinists in the world.....Oistrakh, Stern, Perlman, Heifitz, Chang, Mutter, Manoukian, Joshua Bell, etc. Hands down, this is the best performance of them all.
"Music is indeed the most beautiful of all heaven's gift to humanity wondering im tthe darkness. Alone, it calms, enlightens and stills our souls. It is not the strow to which the drowing man clings; but a true friend and comforter, for whose sake life is worth living." -P.I.Tchaikovsky.

Questo concerto è semplicemente magnifico!!! =)) il primo tempo a mio parere è il migliore di tutti e tre... il secondo tocca di piu l anima e il terzo è come un tiramisù dal secondo xD *-*
Is 2 years enough time to get this concerto concert ready? xD I have a lot of time but it's such a difficult piece. Not to mention I'm trying to get Bruch and Mendelssohn down at the same time along with keeping up with school. lol Janine is such a wonderful performer. To be able to master it in 2 months and play it so beautifully.
Wonderful !!! With that Stradivarius between her hands, she just plays magic. If you've got time, watch the movie "Le Concert", about this Concerto. You will hear in the same way, but you will be crying.
This is probably my favorite concerto for violin, and I think she plays it absolutely beautifully. I love how she touches so gracefully upon the more romantic part of the piece, but when Tchaikovsky for more intensity she brings it. The notes are just so clean and connected, and I love the tempos. Not too slow, not super duper fast, but just right. Wow.
GAHD, I just HATE how performers are such pussies and won't play the cooler variant of the part starting at around 8:50. They just play it safe and repeat the same exact notes as in the previous handful of measures. ARGH :(
In terms of style, Janine Jensen is on the opposite end of scale (over-amplified emotions + tones, harsh + dynamic bowing) compared to Hilary Hahn. If Hilary Hahn were an unusually conservative player, Janine Jensen is a predictable liberal showstopper. In any case, both are excellent violinists.
I've got 2 years to master this concerto. :P It's going rather well so far. The first is pretty crazy though. I may not be able to play it in time. And so it may be an incomplete performance. :(
I don't know how to play the violin but, if I did I think I would find the whole thing overwhelming, I would cry of joy to be able to play something so beautiful
I wish I was 5 again and I could ask my dad for a violin, I'm too old now : (
I think it has to do with the thinness of the string and the fact that it is a string of solid steel or wound steel. I've heard that the whistling is caused by torsional pressure. When you put on string they are never perfectly straight when you tighten them. They are always twisted in some way and you force it straight with pressure. Since the E is so thin it's more likely to 'lock' and not vibrate because of this. Or something. XD lol. Someone should research this.
One of mij collegues told me because of this violinists , It is amazing en touching. Thank you for making this kind of music and the passion you make it.
she plays it in that direct fluent way that - in my opinion - the music needs to sound easy and natural. it doesn't sound artificial or exaggerated in any way though it is full of deep russian emotion... she plays that as if she was talking her mother tongue. the highlights are at the right spots etc. i love the piece to death and only some interpretations convince me ;-) but who am i to judge her?
I love Janine Janse becasue she plays in a very easy way, I mean, the digitation she uses is not strange or extremately difficult..If she wants to play in 1st position, she does...I understand how she uses her left hand fingers...u know..
I am also guessing that that 1753 Strad she so lovingly holds (or at least the level that she cherishes it) doesn't hurt her performances either! What an opportunity to get to even touch such a revered instrument, let alone have it loaned to you because you are so talented!
@enanotodo I knew it was somewhere in that neighborhood. I am thinking someone gave me erroneous info on that (my knowledge is somewhat limited on the subject although I have actually seen and touched one from the early 1700s-My dad played and took me to a museum where he was "connected" when I was a kid---I was lucky I had good parents!)
JJ is such a joy to watch and listen to. I can't even describe it in words anymore. She is probably my sole source of inspiration at this point. If only I could find the time, the money and the ambition to persue her instrument (like my dad did). Playing violin would simply serve to connect me even more. Janine is a true, dyed-in-the-wool muse! I feel like I know here and have never even seen her live---------------------------yet!
I absolutely love Janine, but it's a pity that the clip stops right before the ending of the movement.... Maybe hotmifi could post it again until the end?
In MY opinion THIS (Mendelssohns Violin Concerto in E minor) is why she is the best! #LOL---however, I have to say that JJ could play the theme to the 3 stooges and she would be the best! She can do no wrong as far as I am concerned. My God, listening to JJ playing "the meditation" will save your soul if you need it!
I love this interpretation of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. Janine Jansen is such an incredible performer. I just wish some one would help her with style in appearance. She is so beautiful but that dress is awful and her hair is not even done nicely.
Her dress looks good and her hair is fine. Unlike certain British violinists I could mention, she realises appearance is important, but not nearly as important as her playing. In other words, she has her priorities right...being taken seriously as arguably the world's finest violinist.
I am full of admiration for the proffesionalism of tje orchestra the orchstra that they manage to play withthis halv/amateur conductor with a totally antimusical spastic body /language. his way of stopping the hand before the fourth beat to await the orchestra in order to know when to give the impetus for the One i pricelessand would have been corrected in an average conducting class had he ever bothered to attend one.
She does pretty well, but the conductor is a bit of an arse... he keeps speeding up the orchestra to a tempo she has trouble playing. Any good conductor would have payed more consideration to the wishes of the soloist rather than merely following his own inclinations. Not the cleanest rendition i've ever heard but I think I'd be put off too if the orchestra kept speeding up without me.
Not to vilify with violinify, but you are spot on concerning the conducting ad libitum! But despite the rough edges, she compromised enough not to stick out like a sore thumb on the conductor's evil hand at things : )
Refreshing and revelatory. She learned the piece in about three months, btw. Re: some other remarks, she plays w/ the orch. b/c her temperament isn't about the technique but the music. Deep knee bends? I heard Shaham's Mendelssohn. He looked like John Garfield in a boxer's stance about to attack Robert Spano; the music was transcendent.
Lol, who cares how it looks, music is all about sound..
I fell in love with this piece long time ago when I heard Gidon Kremer play this... This piece has no mercy on the violist, when you have some issues, there is no hiding..Janine does a excellent job, she must be darn good!
janine, als je dit leest.....ik ben een marokkaanse boy uit ut5recht. met non whatsover klassieke opleiding. Maar wat jij met ie viool doet heb ik echt respect vppr. keep[ up the good work....;im the example that classis music doesnt belong to a special target group[. it belongs to the world
that's not the right way to teach and learn violin...I think that if u study u can do anithyng...there is nothing too hard to play if u WANT TO PLAY IT !!! maybe u'll not learn these concerto in 3 months or in 1 year but if u want, and u study, u can play anithyng !!
@cikonuric his teacher is probably saying that he shouldn't be even thinking of the concerto at his level of playing but ur right that it is a bad way of naming it cause it's not as difficult as sebilius or tartini
@halneufmille You must forgive your teacher for not encouraging you properly. Get a new one? or just buy the music and start practicing. Who cares if you are not Heifetz or Oistrakh next week. Play it year after year, work it out, enjoy the journey and don't listen to anyone is not supportive of your desires to do something fantastic like this piece. Just attempting it will make you a better violinist as time goes by. To all others, smile that knowing smile which says you are becoming better.:>)
@elixir22vyle737 u say that because u dont play the violin obviously...his teacher is tight if he tries this piece in lower level than normal then he will not enjoy it as much he will enjoy it in the proper timing...i say that by selfexperience
@okenta3ei dear friend, I have been playing violin for 37 years. If a person wants to do something and someone else discourages him, shame on them. If a person never challenges themself, they will never get better. I appreciate your opinion, I just don' agree with it. A person can enjoy the challenge of attempting to learn a piece even if they are not good at it. It will benefit them in all of their musical endeavors. That's what goal setting is all about. Reaching higher and improving.

I asked my violin teacher if I could play it. She showed the music to me and just said: Don't even think about it, it's the Concerto of the Devil.

You have a stupid teacher then, everything can be done with hard work
