Wow, some people on here are just...stupid! NO, Ezio's mother Maria and Altair's Maria simply CAN'T be the same! THEY'RE 200 YEARS APART!! They share the same name as a symbol, I guess. And YES! Altair and Maria got married and had two sons, one of which is a direct ancestor or Ezio and Desmond... I just wish this game had more Altair and Maria lovey-dovey moments xD [NO not sex either!]

Well people said they needed a AC game for the PSP and they didn't want to disrupt the rest of the idea for Desmond in the 2nd game so they added this as a kind of back story for Altair. Also when that flashback of Altair and Maria happened people didn't understand it so yeah, more of Maria in this game

but in ac1 one of the informers asks altair if has heard from the girlfriend from chronicles, so it seems that she is out of the picture by the beginning of ac1. which leaves him available for maria, who gives birth to ezio's great, great grandfather, and it goes on.......

if u read the guide for AC2 it tells u the only way for desmond to exist altair must have a baby also in AC2 u see altair and maria kissing so there lovers

SPOILER: OK so Altair and Giovanni's wife are the same, OK not really important. So obviously he has the apple of Eden, but in AC2; Rodrigo had possession of the Staff of Eden. Anyone clarify where he got that? Maybe Altair went out on his journey and ended up finding the staff of Eden.

Assassins creed 2 tells the story about Ezio, about 200 YEARS later than Assassins Creed 1. Even though Ezio´s mother name is Maria, his Father´s name is Giovanni, an assassin.
