@kDeviLXIII i think a lot of it is because many non-FF players were looking for a 'WoW' experience, which of course FFXIV is far from =) additionally, the UI and many of the game's systems were horribly broken at launch. nowadays that's all been fixed up and it's a truly stunning game in my opinion!

@AeroQC it's a great game! just to clarify tho, it's no longer free to play. it was for the past 14-odd months, but as of Jan 5th just past it's now a full subscription model.
@sambonz I can tell, I would rather pay to play FFXIV than WoW (I got bored with that MMO in less than 3 months), all there was was quests and lore, dungeons and no dragons, FFXIV has more customization and that's what appeals to me.
I could go for a few months if Square-Enix released a character creator as a freeware to show off the extensive customization available, letting people choose their race, clothing, all the bells and whistles having to do with the avatar appearance.
@ShoshannahCooley one of the great things about FFXIV is the varied types of players it caters to. yes indeed you can go lone wolf and still make major progress throughout the game, but of course there's a ton of options for group content as well =)
I also got this game when it was released. I forced myself to play this game for a month before I had to quit. Recently I've been hearing pleasing reviews from old friends who say that it is indeed much better than when it was first released. I also, out of the blue, found my old account info... I'm hoping this is a good sign. Waiting for FFXIV to finish installing and updating. Here's to hope!

@HVDV the 30 days free will commence once you activate the game, normally, but check their info because they may start the 30 day period from the 5th even if you sign up now.

@daemon1129 it's a million miles away from the awful state it was in at launch, so i absolutely recommend it as it stands =) sure it'll be even better (we hope!) in 2.0, but that's a while off yet. if you like JRPG's you'll def like FFXIV.
@Bigb671 haha it's not silly at all - it's one of the first things i noticed =) no, you can't jump in the same sense as say WoW using the spacebar. you have a jump emote, but not an actual movement jump.
@Ultra441 it was announced by SquareEnix a month or so back, when they were talking about Version 2.0. if you go to the 'Lodestone' FFXIV site the official post is there in the news =)

@TheSteveMuraiNinja there are a few RPG's out there that look similar, but most of the quality ones are probably mainly found on console (like FF13, or most Square Enix JRPG's on the PS3 or Xbox360).
@sambonz yup that's the sad reality... and i don't use a console or any...i had tried out one but.. i'd never think of buying something just for gaming it's like who'd need a camera when their phone cam is like 8MP+ in HD For video and pictures with a 32GB internal storage ???? well i'd never :) i'd rather buy multipurpose items that save bucks and take less space cuz good stuff often come in small packages ^_^
@TheSteveMuraiNinja for sure, consoles don't suit everybody's tastes - i think for a lot of folk who don't want to be bothered configuring and upgrading a PC all the time it's a great option tho. nice and easy just to slap a CD in the drive and press 'play' =)

@Pleotech hrm - i think that's just the default setting now =) although you can go into the options and filter out which messages appear in which chat tab now.
@KidSchnuffle it's been free to play (no subscription) for the past year since release, but it'll be moving to a monthly sub at the end of Dec this year =)
@KidSchnuffle that's a tough question! it really depends on your preferred playstyle as they're two very different games. Rift is very much like most 'theme park' MMOs such as WoW or EQ2 or Lotro etc, whereas FFXIV is very open-ended and relies more on the player creating their own adventure. hope that helps =)
I'm sure you have answered this dozens of times, but is it waaay better now? Because at launch and for the first 3 months, I could not figure out how to forge armor for the life of me, and I also only did like levequests, and grinding and I found switching between classes not very benificial.
@bajjjer it sure has - it's improved in leaps and bounds compared to what you payed at launch. it's basically as if it's finally just reached launch quality now =)
@Redmonkey118 well, some folk think that the recent changes to XIV are making it more like XI, which is definitely not untrue, but in terms of the game's overall technical and useability quality, it's my opinion that XIV is streets ahead =)
@Shadow022393 for sure - a lot of folk are looking forward to the PS3 version! according to the most recent news, the PS3 version is due around Dec 2012 =)
@legolas72981 you have to buy the actual game, but currently there's no monthly subscription. once Square Enix have finished 'fixing' the game they say they'll turn the sub back on again, but it's been F2P for a year so far.. =)
@griloextraterrestre it certainly is! it's not everybody's cup of tea, but if you're a FF fan or looking for something outside of the normal 'theme park MMO' space, it's a winner =)

@TheSteveMuraiNinja there are a few RPG's out there that look similar, but most of the quality ones are probably mainly found on console (like FF13, or most Square Enix JRPG's on the PS3 or Xbox360).

@sambonz yup that's the sad reality... and i don't use a console or any...i had tried out one but.. i'd never think of buying something just for gaming it's like who'd need a camera when their phone cam is like 8MP+ in HD For video and pictures with a 32GB internal storage ???? well i'd never :) i'd rather buy multipurpose items that save bucks and take less space cuz good stuff often come in small packages ^_^

@TheSteveMuraiNinja for sure, consoles don't suit everybody's tastes - i think for a lot of folk who don't want to be bothered configuring and upgrading a PC all the time it's a great option tho. nice and easy just to slap a CD in the drive and press 'play' =)

@TheSteveMuraiNinja naw the game is online-only. if you haven't got an internet connection it won't let you past the loading screen =)

@Pleotech hrm - i think that's just the default setting now =) although you can go into the options and filter out which messages appear in which chat tab now.

@KidSchnuffle that's a tough question! it really depends on your preferred playstyle as they're two very different games. Rift is very much like most 'theme park' MMOs such as WoW or EQ2 or Lotro etc, whereas FFXIV is very open-ended and relies more on the player creating their own adventure. hope that helps =)

I'm sure you have answered this dozens of times, but is it waaay better now? Because at launch and for the first 3 months, I could not figure out how to forge armor for the life of me, and I also only did like levequests, and grinding and I found switching between classes not very benificial.

@Redmonkey118 well, some folk think that the recent changes to XIV are making it more like XI, which is definitely not untrue, but in terms of the game's overall technical and useability quality, it's my opinion that XIV is streets ahead =)

@legolas72981 you have to buy the actual game, but currently there's no monthly subscription. once Square Enix have finished 'fixing' the game they say they'll turn the sub back on again, but it's been F2P for a year so far.. =)
