Flash Buttons: Dreamweaver Tutorial!

This is an old version of DreamWeaver, it's still from MAcromedia but Adobe bought it. Macromedia also had flash. So the macromedia version of DreamWeaver is much more compatible with Flash.

This is Macromedia DreamWeaver 8 and you have Adobe DreamWeaver CS4, that's something whole different. If you are a n00b you are not yet able to do this... i'm sorry...

if you have dreameaver cs4 then there are no flash buttons. adobe took them off in cs4. they only have flash in cs3 and lower.

It is possible. You just have to create the buttons in Flash ( I have CS4) and , using actionscript, link the buttons to the URL of the pages in your site. There are a lot of tutorials on how to do that on Youtube. just type in linking buttons to URL and it should pop right up.

I'm having trouble with my flash buttons and flash text. I followed his tutorial on creating a css site in dreamweaver and I'm trying to put some flash text in the content section.

It looks fine when I preview it in firefox, but when i upload it and check out it on the web it isn't there.

I've downloaded the latest version of flash player and I'm definitely uploading my files correctly before I view it on the web.

Anybody have any suggestions?

i bet you stuffed up the directory,

make sure there in the same folder ,then make sure the button directory is correct then upload.

i can help, im really not that familiar with flash but im good with adobe stuff in general. you wanna save it as a .swf or that kinda file format. if in the save as box it dosnt give u that option google how to save as swf. save it to your desktop(or anywhere easy to remeber). then go into dreamweaver and browse for that swf file or drag from save location directly to location. if that dosnt work, send me a message and ill go into flash and see what i can do.

Hey I know how to do that, okay locate were all your files are for dreamWeaver. Second if you have a folder for all your icons or buttons in the dreamWeaver its good, if not then make a new folder, call it buttons or icons for your what ever you are doing. THird import the icons or buttons you want in that same folder you just named buttons or icons.

Thanks for the tutorial on the buttons. I'm new to all this. My only problem is when i view the page in a test browser (f12), it says i have to "click to activate". how can i avoid this? thanks!

I'm having the same problem, have found a solution. It makes it so that you have to double click the buttons. Once to "activate this control", and a second click to actualy use the button.

Either you do not have the flash plug-in, or you haev not uploaded the .swf file(which is your button) to the server with your html file. Checking both things will solve your issue.

it seems that the file is not saving... I go through the motions and click save and nothing happens except for the flash button space holder, but there is no file... what should I do??

The button will not actually appear in Dreamweaver only a place holder. If you hit "F12" to preview it in your browser you will see that it is there.
