Jonesfuck was spanked by Tarver all Jonesfags get over it ....obliterated ....oh sorry u r probably too fuckin stup[id to know what that word means Jonesfags
Taking this fight with Tarver was only a risk because Roy Jones was getting old at age 34 NOT TO MENTION he just came back from going heavyweight AND HE HAD ALREADY PROVEN EVERYTHING IN THE SPORT HE FELT HE NEEDED TO. Dominated for 14 years, I would have to say thats a long enough reign to be an all time great. Dumbass commentators didn't say none of that so I thought I'd put it out there.
@Zachrydaman Jones didnt fight anybody. To be an all-time great you have to atleast fight a couple of the elite fighters of your era, Jones didnt. There are fighters with many losses on their record that are all-time greats. Jones didnt fight the best of his era. Therefore, how can any rational person consider him an all-time great? He was a poor boxer and had no intangibles. He was simply one hell of an athlete. I give him that.
@TheChoice264 All right the day you walk into a boxing gym with knowledgable trainers and fighters and say that... Then maybe I'll respect it. He had his own dam fundamentals. He used to perry the "piston jab" with his own left hand and then immediately left hook and turn his head. Fundamental? Naw not by the books but if u think about it its genius. So Pacquiao is a hell of an athlete but hes a true idiot in the ring... Jones was a very smart boxer who "knew" how to use his abilities.
@TheChoice264 he fought anyone they threw at him. simply the best of his time. he fought greats, like hopkins and toney, he just made them look like chumps. now FMJ is a bitch. he picks his fighters, thats bs
@TheChoice264 You don't know shit about boxing. Jones fought and beat all-time greats who were coming of wins like James Toney (who was 44-0), Bernard Hopkins (who had 1 loss at the time), and Montell Griffin (Who was 26-0) while in their prime. Get you facts straight before shitting on Jones legacy. Jones became the first former light middleweight champion to win a heavyweight title in 106 years and was named "Fighter of the Decade". Jones is a all-time great, acknowledge that.
calzaghe is a great fighter but he retired way to early. Seems like he ran from the possibility of losing. Kind of reminds me of gayweather. Jones in his prime would win a close decision against calzaghe.
@xTheBoomaHx Victor Ortiz is a big time fight. If you're referring to Manny Pacquiao, anyone who knows boxing knows Floyd's next fight is WAY tougher than Manny's next fight
@tribalfish17 He hit a guy during a boxing match. Theres no rule that says I have to repeatedly hug you. The ref took a point for Ortiz cheating. He resumed the fight. Victor wanted to hug. Floyd wanted to fight. Victor got knocked the fuck out. Besides, Floyd was whoopin his ass anyway.
@bamaceo59 Europe is europe. If its eastern block or not isnt relevant. Sovjet union doesnt exist anymore. And there isnt only "two champs" Lucian Bute(IBF supermiddleweight champ) is romanian, Carl Froch(WBC supermiddleweight chamb) is English, Felix Sturm(WBA Supermiddle champ) is german. Jan Zavek(IBF welterweight champ) is slovenian. Dimitri Pirog(WBO middleweight champ) is russian. Tomaz Adamek is polish. Ricky Burns(WBO Superfeatherweight champ) is Scottiish. We rule!
i am a english man,an in my opinion if joe calzaghe was a good fighter, but he boxed a lot of not very good fighters or fighters well past there prime i.e. jones, hopkins and even eubank, they all, plus nigel benn, would have all stopped him.he was well overated..give hin his due though,he had good stamina, but was not truly world class.end of.
I'm not huge on RJJ's cockiness but damn.... best fighter ever in his prime. Weightloss, age... maybe a combination of both caught up to him. In Roys prime he'd whoop two Tarvers at the same time.
the fact that jones moved up to heavyweight and came back down and was able to do this is impressive in itself...when you lose all that muscle in your 30's it depletes you.
lol you don't lose muscle in your 30's, many people actually gain some ( i would argue that Ali did) but you can lose speed and reflexes, which Roy depended heavily upon. It also can be harder to get into shape but it really varies from person to person.
Tarver had no question for Jones in the center of the ring, if waiting until Jones got tired to slug him on the ropes was Tarver's strategy,,then he never had one. All lions get old and get knocked off the hill. Going up to heavy-weight destroyed Roy Jones. Any real fan knows that. The Roy fighting today isn't a glimmer of the King he once was. Retire Roy your legacy is sealed..
B Hop lost. Hopkins is the dirtiest fighter. Great defense but zero knock out power and he uses his head much like Evander when inside. Hopkins is WAY overrated for career.
People don't realize, in the fight where tarver beat jones, up until he caught roy with that over hand left, jones was beatin' the breaks off of tarver LOL!!
It just goes to show, one punch can TOTALLY change the complexion of the fight..
calzaghe was knocked down by hopkins before he fought jones, u say that jones in his prime would beat calzaghe but its not as if calzaghe is young is it?
Jones Vs. Calzaghe earlier in their careers would have been a slaughter. By the time Jones fough Calzaghe he lost his most valuable asset, and that's his speed. He also lost his will to fight. Calzaghe will never be considered a legend, he fought the greats way after they were out of their prime.
I like how you say earlier in "their" careers because they are both at almost same age in career. How come jones jr fans make so many excuse for him? From lucky punches to old age get over it.
Roy Jones was never a powerful fighter, he was fast. As you age speed is the first thing to go, you can always work on strength with weight training, you can work on endurance with running but what can you use to work on speed? earlier in "their" careers Calzaghe wouldn't have gotten Jones on the ropes and wouldn't have been able to hit him as much. So had the fight taken place 10 years prior Calzhghe wouldn't have won. Kind of like Hopkins and Jones fighting now, it would be a different fight.
He lost his relexes and was also flat footed against calzaghe.. calzaghe was still at his best when he fought jones and hopkins but still got knockdown..
I like Joe Calzaghe a lot but to be honest Jones would have more than likely won against Calzaghe if they had fought say 10 years ago. Yes they are roughly the same age but age affects different fighters in different ways. Some lose their speed and edge before others and unfortunately Jones is one of those people. Calzaghe is a rare case where even at 36 he can still throw a huge volume of fast punches but at the height of their careers Jones was definitely more well rounded than Calzaghe.
calzaghe was 36 when they fought! calzaghe is a legend roy jones is a legend, the other argument was why didnt calzaghe fight pavlik!!! well calzaghe beat hopkins and hopkins went on to destroy pavlik!! pavlik isnt in the same class as calzaghe! both legends why cant u admit it? i bet your american?
explain to me why calzaghe is a legend. He beat and over the hill Roy Jones, and an old Bernard Hopkins. Who else has he beat? He's just a big Ricky Hatton. Fight bums to British legendary status, then being seen after everyone is finished boxing.
hopkins was your current best fighter when calzaghe fought him...and hopkins pulled out in 2002 this is a fact..calzaghe beat everyone of note in supermiddleweight division..moved up in weight to fight the best in that division and retired undefeated thats why he is a legend
Everyone of note meaning who? Calzaghe is a legend only in England. You all can say what you wish, but if Hatton hadn't fought Mayweather, or Pacquaio and retired you'd be saying the same about him. In order to be a legend you actually have to beat a few good fighters. If however you just have to make up a British legend, do what you must.
Roy Jones was washed up, Hopkins was old and lacked stamina. Kessler isn't good, Whobank, and Lacy was over-rated. It took him 17 years to decide to fight the best when they were past their prime, or going downhill as fighters.
If he had been American it wouldn't have taken him 17 years to gain notoriety. He is far from a legend, he can't even be considered good. He's been fighting 17 years and Kessler, Eubank, Jones, Hopkins and Lacy are the only opponents you can come up with!!!
you usually are undefeated when you fight bums and then target washed out/old fighters in the end of your career e.g. jones, hopkins (I think hopkins won, beating him on the inside was not credited as much). Eubanks was at the end of his tunnel also and was fighting an uphill struggle. So why did Cazlaghe not go america earlier? he knew he wasnt good enough. he only beat 1 guy and that kessler who i give credit to him for!
yeh well, that's just bigotted crap isn't it, cos calzaghe beat the arse off ring mag (surprise surprise a US mag) sweetheart lacy, absolutely embarrased him, lacy was pathetic, he hardly landed a punch on calzaghe the 'eurotrash' boxer. ha ha. Then he whooped hopkins, who is still a world calss contender cos he went on AFTER calzaghe to dominate pavlik who was rated top of the divison )by americans!)! so, if you have a brain, perhaps engage it before talking next time
@Acrelad fraizer beat ali, foreman beat fraizer, ali beat foreman.....the triangle logic dont mean shit, Pavlik is garbage to begin with and roy in his 40's can beat pavlik since hopkins didnt slug it out with him. Roy walked calzaghe down..meaning he took the punches and went forward, the only thing calzaghe did was use youth and out energize him. Calzaghe belongs up there with ricki knocked the fucked out flatton. good move fighting 2 seniors and retire. jones/hopkins hall of fame, joe=bum
@Acrelad to top it off, 2 old men knocked his silly ass down on the 1st round...if they were in their 30's they would have done it every round if the energizer bunny no skill slappity punch calzaghe could take it. Hatton>Calzaghe, Hatton=Bum. hopkins and jones Hall of Fame legends. Calzaghe, will be forgotten like he is already.
@Mjolbaggar HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA your funny. Everybody already forgot about calzaghe, because he is a nobody. go back to watching euro boxing
@Mjolbaggar They were over 40 you stupid newb, They made him look like a bitch dropping his weak ass in the 1st round. go back to watching futbol or something so you don't look stupid.
@bench261 Ok, tell you what. Firts of all. Europeans are dominating boxing at the moment. Only stars america has left is Mayweather and Hopkins and they are sone gone. Bradley will be beat if he fights Khan. Berto showed himself to suck. Chad Dawson is boring. Boxing in america is dead.
Hopkins after Calzaghe made him look like a bitch went on to beat Pavlik and in my opinion Jean Pascal. So how people keep bringing up his age is when he fought Calzaghe is just dumb. Your dumb.
@Mjolbaggar Calzaghe fought nobody. He's already been forgotten. Nobody will remember him in 1000 years besides being the last guy to get a gift decision win over the GOAT, the oldest man ever to win a boxing title, The Executioner Bernard Hopkins.
@bench261 You don't know anything about boxing man !! Eurotrash !! See Boxrec and take a look at Calzague's record before trash talk... And when a euro fighter won't go in the USA for being robbed he deserves no credit ? Is that you'r point of view ? What a boxing specialist !! Tell me how much US world champs are boxing in Europe or Asia ? No one they prefere hometown decisions !!
I am a huge Calzaghe fan but I am the first to admit that he never fought guys in their prime when he could have. Jones 9 years ago would have smoked him. If he had not retired, I would have wanted to see him fight Pavlik.
Still a huge Calzaghe fan though, very busy fighter and throws a grip of punches, and has great defense.
yeah, Calzaghe's best wins arent looking so good anymore, with the exception of Bernard Hopkins. Roy Jones was KTFO by the good but not great Danny Green in one round, and Mikkel Kessler was taken to school by the talented Andre Ward. all the other guys he fought before that were good but not elite.
if calzaghe was this good he would of gone over to america to fight rj 10 yrs ago ! hes beaten bums from europe and just in general 'c' class boxers and then waits until legendary boxers are over the hill to fight them! Calzaghe is just loved here in the uk but to the boxing world he isnt special! hes a boxer with a record that is greater than his ability!
Calzaghe was trying to make fights with hopkins AND jones on the turn of the decade but they were too busy fighting american fighters for big bucks over there.
Watch some Calzaghe fights and you will know how good he is.
Well im british and i personally think calzaghe is only a legend here! roy jones jr boxer of the decade for the 90's first man in over 100 yrs to be former middleweight champ and be heavyweight champ! just a greater boxer, punches doesnt slap! For me you cant evn try and mention calzaghes name in the same sentence as someone as great as roy jones!
Just because hopkins beat pavlik-that does'nt tell you anything of what would happen if joe fought him-I would still like to see that fight-I don't think it would be an easy night for joe-hopkins is a very unique case
how can you say that?! calzaghe is unbeaten....sure roy was exciting to watch, and a great fighter, but calzaghe has never been knocked down, and hes also very fast. roy in his prime would probably have pinched it on points
Who is the commentator speaking at the end he always hates on roy every fight I c him commentate. "A bigger risk than Roy fought it would be" maybe Roy knew it was a risk and that's why he did it cunt. As for Jones vs calzaghe back in the day Jones takes it easily even if it goes to the cards.
i had hopkins ahead against calzaghe when the fight ended. i'm not a calzaghe fan at all i don't like the soft punches. he always would've given roy trouble, though. i think rjj would've beat him in his prime but not easily. roy never had a super high volume and calzaghe's output would back him up and punish him. roy never had good footwork, just good speed. calzaghe would find him with both hands a million times. i don't think roy would ever win a decision. should've pressed advantage harder
alot of people think jones should retire...i dont think so...he is fighting for money any more...he is fighting becuase he wants to...simply to much pride...if i was in his shoes i wouldnt hang em either...what people dont understand that jones created his own weakness...he was his own downfall..he made the sacrifice of going to HW...but he also made history in the process...i gurantee he will continue fighting...i dont know who his next opponent is...maybe jermain taylor
Yes he is. His career was built on fighting C level fighters and he didn't hit his prime until now. Moreover, he's still 36 goin' on 37dick head. Keep massaging Joes balls you damn groupie.
Calzaghe is a pussy if he doesn't rematch Hopkins or have the BALLS to fight Glen Johnson or Dawson. He fought a washed up Jones, and although I thought Roy had enough to still beat Joe, it is clear he has slowed down and lost way too much power since coming down from heavyweight. In his prime, Joe would have been stopped.
Jones, "in his prime" was the sickest human being to ever lace up the gloves. What he did from middleweight to heavyweight most likely will NEVER be done again. Once he destroys Calzaghe, and forever takes his heart and soul...Roy Jones will permanently cement his legacy as the All Time Best. You best start appreciating him, because you'll never see anything like him again in your lifetime.
i notice you concentrate on insulting me because you are incapable of refuting my criticisms of jones. he specialised in flashy victories over low class opposition and when he did fight top class opponents, he edged unconvincing victories without ever landing anything effective. you would be able to see this if you had any genuine knowledge of pugilism.
anyway, im sure you have got to go look at your oollection o mclellan posters so ill leave you to it dude
You're a punk ass fake. Roy is an all time great, and may very well be the greatest of all time. "A genuine scholor of boxing"???? Please. You sound like a fool. Do the world a favor and go back to sleep.
RJJ should have reitired after wining the heavy w8 title.
His 3 losses after this fight had a lot to do with coming down in w8class and abusing his body in a mannor that noone else would even consider allow actually do.
Regardless, he is the best p4p of our generation and is still looking for challenges = calling out the undisputed super middle and light heavy champ Joe Calzaghe. Any fight fan only has one thing to say to RJJ doubters/haters;
Yep,Jones is way better than Tarver, although he is 1-2 head to head. WTF?? Frazier better than Ali too? Jones waited too long before fighting Tarver in the first place. Had they fought 3-5 years earlier than the first fight,Jones would've clearly won, nobody told him to move up the heavyweight then back down. He should have just stayed @ heavy & fought the smaller heavy's,Bird, Holyfield, rematch with James Toney, and finally Tyson..then retired. I should've been his manager.
yeah i think roy was 48-1 when he beat ruiz. he should of fought byrd or toney(more so byrd)that would have put him at 49-1 and his LAST fight should have been against tyson to go 50-1 then retire. then his name would have been in the holy trinity of Ali/Robinson/Jones
What you say is true and if he had followed your plans he most definately would have been one the best ever. But edging a decision over Tarver really hurt and then the 2 ko's to Tarver and Johnson makes people question his career. People said the same about Leonard but he did beat Hearns,Hagler,Duran and Benitez.
true but you see those fighters specifically mike tyson didnt take the fight with jones...even lennox luis...by time jones got to heavyweight...lewis fought against klitchko then retired...holyfield turned down a fight...i dont blame em....to beat a small former middleweight isnt much...to lose to a small former middle weight is shameful in terms of being a heavyweight
i wasnt sure that he would win those fights...hell i wasnt sure he would of won the fight with ruiz being that all it takes is one punch....roy made it look so easy that critics called ruiz a push over...discrediting jones...i do believe jones would of beaten holyfield and tyson...lewis....to beat him...would of silenced every critic in history...
Jones at his best was definitely better than Tarver ever was at his best, and I'm a big Jones fan, but.... being objective, I thought Tarver might have won their first fight. Sadly, Jones' style was a young man's style, he declined from his prime (when he was one of the best all-time period) quickly. And also the weight gain to Heavyweight, I think he never recovered.
PS: I define "best" and "greatest" as two different - albeit usually related - classifications.
Jones beat the heavyweight champ in the alphabet soup era of the sport for jones 2 have beaten him just establishes his rank as one of the greats p4p floyd money may couldnt go up 40 pds to cruiser n beat a top 5 fighter in that division jon ruiz was decent - if u were a fighter youd understand and respeck it- but its cool a fans perspective is cool too as well as necessary
u r confused bruh pounp 4 pound roy jones had the skill n talent to beat anyone u tell lennox lewis to make 178 and he'd get starched roy beat benard in his prime who is close to an equivalent to hag some consider him better p4p- roy aint even done if he beats calzaghe then whatta guyz gonna say- probaly somethin dumb like-calzaghe is white
Tyson really didn't beat any quality heavyweights. he beat a bunch of nobodies. some would say the same about Roy Jones but he fought a long time in the game before he was tested. but this fight showed me that he could beat Tarver. he just didn't
remember while turning close to 40 and since the third tarver fight- roy jones has picked competition that had a record of 89-4 not to mention u left out virgil hill reggie johnson& that u conveintly disregard that jon ruiz was the heavyweight champ with a 38 -4 recordbecause he beat a fighter who many considerr a legend already very easily u cannot deny his greatness
and u cant b mad that roy wanted to make money- what do u think promoters do they handpik fights for the in house guy and try to help him get as many low risk money fights as possible- fighters risk their life evertime they lace up -shit even in sparring- so u cant hate roy @m least he did'nt hand pik a cocaine addicted washed up bum and get humiliated like ur boi ray
he would not have caught jones- tyson was 5 ft 11inches in a division with giants where he was overmatched in terms of size-he indeed was a small heavy- and u hav the nerve to say duran was a tru lightweight if we put the same rule into effect tyson essentialy was a lightweight often givin up 20 to 30 pds
clinching is 4 out of shape fighters tucker was a bum and tyson destroyed larry who mind u came bak and beat mercer and did decent against holyfield- he really wasnt all that bad when he fought mike but like tyson woulda did to ali holmes crumbled becuz in his youth tyson was the most explosive heavy in the history of the sport dont deny mr 147 he was
In which case, Tyson was neutralised and taken the distance by a bum! Just like those other bums Smith, Tillis and Green who also took him the distance in his prime. Tyson was not the most explosive heavyweight of all time those nights. Holmes was 38 and had been inactive for two years when he fought Tyson.
tyson jones, dont make me throw in my boi the terrible one who beat the shi outtah yeah i know ur inactive buddy ray lenny wilkins. any way bak 2 p4p tyson was a lil guy whoppin dem big boyz his sheer talent as a heavy is unparreled like jones hag was a real blu collar guy with heart and good fundementals did u c that old version of ray leonard frustrate the hell outtah him- jones would been twice as unpredictable and woulda brought more power 2 the table
i love hag but he was just tyo slow a young tyson is like a young jones at their peaks they could'nt b touched u hav forgotten how both of these men could maintain thier explosive styles thoughout the course of a fight when they were in their primes tyson quit training enter douglas-in his prime baby i say an old ali would do good against an old tysonn if its any consolation hell ur boy roy woulda done good against an old tyson
those guys would'nt have been able to keep up thats like matching a mustang against a ferrari- i'll give u another controversial example I beleive mike tyson in his prime woulda walked through ur boy clay and punished him 4 15rds reason being tyson was complete offensively and defensively ur boy clay was a head hunter who rarely went to the bread basket and like jones at 20 tyson's cast iron chin would hav withstood the anchor punch lol!!!dont bring up patterson just becuz cus trained him
styles make fights taver lost to hopkins who jones beat in his prime at middle weight what would hagler leonard or duran do againt the bigger faster jones they woulda looked like vinny overmatched hearns won the 2nd leonard fite that was some in tight judging lol ruiz beat holfield at about the same age roy was when he lost to tarver at the end of the line if he never lost what would u say ?u know why g johnson k'd him - He was @ the end!!!!!!!!!
wow- u just dont like him its cool- I hope Roy Wins another belt against a formidable opponent so i can find u and rub it in real tough- u say duran was alight weight the essence of the p4 p tiltle is ones ability to b compared to fighters heavier and what they would do if god gave them additioinal size roy was a middle he won the heavyweight title the essence of what p4p iz only he actually moved up and physiclly proved p4p he is to bn compared to rr
so duran didnt hav a beard he got crucified and did'nt get up against hearns- jus admit roy @ his best in his prime was unlike any other and could hav prolly beat anyone in there prime because of his ability to hit and not b hit the essence of the sport he held it down and transcended the game mayweather as good as he is is no roy jones to b a fighter u hav to hav heart and to b a champion u hav to have a decent chin. he go caught like duran, like lennox, like hearn who was better than barkely
ray lankford and hagler could b in there as well as henry armstrong, but u put leonard on there when leonard was roys age he let macho humiliate him roy beat a good young fighter in anthony hanshaw and tatooed trinidad who was still game and showed flashes- like i said lennox got caught twice it can happen to anyone its the nature of the sport-fighters like donald curry and mark breland had suspect chins roy held it down for years he beat em all he is a legend- benard vs joe?
I think joe does alot of things in the ring well , but i also think he mimmicks american fighters and does'nt understand whats takin place in the ring in other words he makes moves and does'nt know the purpose- consequently he is easy to find -he looked suspect against soliman bika and had atougher time than i think he expected with kessler- he'll giv hopkins too much respect and b timid-but will prolly get a decision anyway
But seriously for u to hop on the band wagon that roy was good just becuz he was fast is absurd- thats like comparing him to tyson Roy Jones had longevity and hes still around when we speak of fighters like joe louis and ray robinson we look at them at thier best and compare them to others at their best not when thier old and broke and well past their primes giv roy his respect
u got a 147 after ur name maybe ur a welterweight? if u aint fought pro i dont expect u to understand- but u dont go through an illustrious ameuture career have 50 pro fights and only get ur chin tested once the delvalle shot was devastating roy had a delayed reaction - however he was still young enough to get up- just like tyson as he kept getting hit and aging his chin got weaker to b a top 10 p4p u gotta hav a chin PERIOD
and while i'm thinking about it... why are we discussing Muhammad Ali on a Roy Jones Jr. vid? Why do people turn on a fighter the moment he's knocked out? That doesn't erase his prior accomplishments.
there are so many other boxers i would have rathered watched knock out my favourite boxer. i don't think tarver deserves that claim to fame. I hope he gets past woods and they fight again
roy jones technically only lost to two boxers, and wht's the record of Ali, Liston, Holmes, Foremen, Tyson, Lewis , Holyfield etc? are they had a perfect record? the answer is no, they all once getting KO but doesnt mean lost their legacy at their prime.
Ali may have never been knocked out but he's been knocked down several times... In fact Frazier knocked him down 6 times in two rounds before ultimately going on to win the fight. I believe Jones deserves to be recognized as one of the greatest fighters... My opinion
Um. What? Frazier did NOT knock Ali down 6 times. He knocked him down once, in the 15th round of their first fight. I'm not even sure if Ali got knocked down six times in his entire career. Get your facts straight before posting such bold comments.
Sorry aakaaxaaz...This comment was actually meant for mrtony80... Oh and for the record... Ali was knocked down twice in the first fight with Frazier... Look it up... Get YOUR facts straight before posting such bold comments.
You're a bigger Idiot than SouthernFats, Ali was only knocked down once... The other so called "knock down" was ruled a slip in the 10th or 11th round.
Frazier was knocked down 6 times by Foreman. No one ever did that to Ali. Ali was knocked down three times in his career. Jones KO'd by the first opponents to seriously test his chin.
firt opponent to test his chin? do you know how hard those gloves r? believe me his chins been gettin g tested for a while hopkins, toney, del valle, ruiz- he got k'd from all the shots he took throughout his ameuture and pro career Ali got stopped by larry holmes by the wy on the stool @ the end of his career like jones
tarver is a lazy figther i dont think he deservs hes titles cuz he iz no show man he iz lazy and dont want to risk a lil bit i think he sucks but again iz my opinion u dont have to agree

JoedirtMike 1 year ago
the fact that jones moved up to heavyweight and came back down and was able to do this is impressive in itself...when you lose all that muscle in your 30's it depletes you.
RockawayRiotSquad 1 year ago
@RockawayRiotSquad
lol you don't lose muscle in your 30's, many people actually gain some ( i would argue that Ali did) but you can lose speed and reflexes, which Roy depended heavily upon.

Retire Roy your legacy is sealed..

calzaghe was knocked down by hopkins before he fought jones, u say that jones in his prime would beat calzaghe but its not as if calzaghe is young is it?
11geee 2 years ago
Jones Vs. Calzaghe earlier in their careers would have been a slaughter. By the time Jones fough Calzaghe he lost his most valuable asset, and that's his speed. He also lost his will to fight. Calzaghe will never be considered a legend, he fought the greats way after they were out of their prime.
gigolo25 2 years ago 2
I like how you say earlier in "their" careers because they are both at almost same age in career. How come jones jr fans make so many excuse for him? From lucky punches to old age get over it.
K3rosky 2 years ago
Roy Jones was never a powerful fighter, he was fast. As you age speed is the first thing to go, you can always work on strength with weight training, you can work on endurance with running but what can you use to work on speed? earlier in "their" careers Calzaghe wouldn't have gotten Jones on the ropes and wouldn't have been able to hit him as much. So had the fight taken place 10 years prior Calzhghe wouldn't have won. Kind of like Hopkins and Jones fighting now, it would be a different fight.
gigolo25 2 years ago
You also get fatigued quicker as you get older..
FeziB 2 years ago
He lost his relexes and was also flat footed against calzaghe.. calzaghe was still at his best when he fought jones and hopkins but still got knockdown..
FeziB 2 years ago
I like Joe Calzaghe a lot but to be honest Jones would have more than likely won against Calzaghe if they had fought say 10 years ago. Yes they are roughly the same age but age affects different fighters in different ways. Some lose their speed and edge before others and unfortunately Jones is one of those people. Calzaghe is a rare case where even at 36 he can still throw a huge volume of fast punches but at the height of their careers Jones was definitely more well rounded than Calzaghe.
thedarkknight117 2 years ago
calzaghe was 36 when they fought! calzaghe is a legend roy jones is a legend, the other argument was why didnt calzaghe fight pavlik!!! well calzaghe beat hopkins and hopkins went on to destroy pavlik!! pavlik isnt in the same class as calzaghe! both legends why cant u admit it? i bet your american?
leighjohnharvey 2 years ago
explain to me why calzaghe is a legend. He beat and over the hill Roy Jones, and an old Bernard Hopkins. Who else has he beat? He's just a big Ricky Hatton. Fight bums to British legendary status, then being seen after everyone is finished boxing.
gigolo25 2 years ago 2
hopkins was your current best fighter when calzaghe fought him...and hopkins pulled out in 2002 this is a fact..calzaghe beat everyone of note in supermiddleweight division..moved up in weight to fight the best in that division and retired undefeated thats why he is a legend
stuartbango1987 2 years ago
Everyone of note meaning who? Calzaghe is a legend only in England. You all can say what you wish, but if Hatton hadn't fought Mayweather, or Pacquaio and retired you'd be saying the same about him. In order to be a legend you actually have to beat a few good fighters. If however you just have to make up a British legend, do what you must.
gigolo25 2 years ago
Kessler, Eubank, Roy Jones, Hopkins, Lacy theres more than a few good fighters.
Nobody ever defeated Calzaghe in 17 years get over it hes amazing.
If he had been american you guys would suck his cock.
jguinnyfool 2 years ago
Roy Jones was washed up, Hopkins was old and lacked stamina. Kessler isn't good, Whobank, and Lacy was over-rated. It took him 17 years to decide to fight the best when they were past their prime, or going downhill as fighters.
If he had been American it wouldn't have taken him 17 years to gain notoriety. He is far from a legend, he can't even be considered good. He's been fighting 17 years and Kessler, Eubank, Jones, Hopkins and Lacy are the only opponents you can come up with!!!
gigolo25 2 years ago 3
you usually are undefeated when you fight bums and then target washed out/old fighters in the end of your career e.g. jones, hopkins (I think hopkins won, beating him on the inside was not credited as much). Eubanks was at the end of his tunnel also and was fighting an uphill struggle. So why did Cazlaghe not go america earlier? he knew he wasnt good enough. he only beat 1 guy and that kessler who i give credit to him for!

@bench261
yeh well, that's just bigotted crap isn't it, cos calzaghe beat the arse off ring mag (surprise surprise a US mag) sweetheart lacy, absolutely embarrased him, lacy was pathetic, he hardly landed a punch on calzaghe the 'eurotrash' boxer. ha ha. Then he whooped hopkins, who is still a world calss contender cos he went on AFTER calzaghe to dominate pavlik who was rated top of the divison )by americans!)! so, if you have a brain, perhaps engage it before talking next time
Acrelad 1 year ago
@Acrelad fraizer beat ali, foreman beat fraizer, ali beat foreman.....the triangle logic dont mean shit, Pavlik is garbage to begin with and roy in his 40's can beat pavlik since hopkins didnt slug it out with him. Roy walked calzaghe down..meaning he took the punches and went forward, the only thing calzaghe did was use youth and out energize him. Calzaghe belongs up there with ricki knocked the fucked out flatton. good move fighting 2 seniors and retire. jones/hopkins hall of fame, joe=bum
bench261 1 year ago 3
@Acrelad to top it off, 2 old men knocked his silly ass down on the 1st round...if they were in their 30's they would have done it every round if the energizer bunny no skill slappity punch calzaghe could take it.
Your dumb.
Mjolbaggar 8 months ago
@Mjolbaggar Calzaghe fought nobody. He's already been forgotten. Nobody will remember him in 1000 years besides being the last guy to get a gift decision win over the GOAT, the oldest man ever to win a boxing title, The Executioner Bernard Hopkins.

doncorleon818 2 years ago 9
yeah, Calzaghe's best wins arent looking so good anymore, with the exception of Bernard Hopkins. Roy Jones was KTFO by the good but not great Danny Green in one round, and Mikkel Kessler was taken to school by the talented Andre Ward. all the other guys he fought before that were good but not elite.
dalastdon1432 2 years ago
if calzaghe was this good he would of gone over to america to fight rj 10 yrs ago ! hes beaten bums from europe and just in general 'c' class boxers and then waits until legendary boxers are over the hill to fight them! Calzaghe is just loved here in the uk but to the boxing world he isnt special! hes a boxer with a record that is greater than his ability!
Jbizzle390 2 years ago 3
Calzaghe was trying to make fights with hopkins AND jones on the turn of the decade but they were too busy fighting american fighters for big bucks over there.

Who is the commentator speaking at the end he always hates on roy every fight I c him commentate. "A bigger risk than Roy fought it would be" maybe Roy knew it was a risk and that's why he did it cunt. As for Jones vs calzaghe back in the day Jones takes it easily even if it goes to the cards.
tull06 3 years ago
i had hopkins ahead against calzaghe when the fight ended. i'm not a calzaghe fan at all i don't like the soft punches. he always would've given roy trouble, though. i think rjj would've beat him in his prime but not easily. roy never had a super high volume and calzaghe's output would back him up and punish him. roy never had good footwork, just good speed. calzaghe would find him with both hands a million times. i don't think roy would ever win a decision. should've pressed advantage harder
dawsonallen 3 years ago
u fuckin dumb roy jones had great footwork calzaghe would of got knocked out if jones was in his prime

Roy Jones Jr. will finish his career at heavyweight. Write it down if you like...(inside tip ...hint hint...)

alot of people think jones should retire...i dont think so...he is fighting for money any more...he is fighting becuase he wants to...simply to much pride...if i was in his shoes i wouldnt hang em either...what people dont understand that jones created his own weakness...he was his own downfall..he made the sacrifice of going to HW...but he also made history in the process...i gurantee he will continue fighting...i dont know who his next opponent is...maybe jermain taylor
cassius214 3 years ago

You best start appreciating him, because you'll never see anything like him again in your lifetime.
boxerpuncherj 3 years ago 2
i notice you concentrate on insulting me because you are incapable of refuting my criticisms of jones. he specialised in flashy victories over low class opposition and when he did fight top class opponents, he edged unconvincing victories without ever landing anything effective. you would be able to see this if you had any genuine knowledge of pugilism.
anyway, im sure you have got to go look at your oollection o mclellan posters so ill leave you to it dude

RJJ should have reitired after wining the heavy w8 title.
His 3 losses after this fight had a lot to do with coming down in w8class and abusing his body in a mannor that noone else would even consider allow actually do.
Regardless, he is the best p4p of our generation and is still looking for challenges = calling out the undisputed super middle and light heavy champ Joe Calzaghe. Any fight fan only has one thing to say to RJJ doubters/haters;
YALL MUST HAVE FORGOT!
LowBudgetReviews 3 years ago 3
Yep,Jones is way better than Tarver, although he is 1-2 head to head. WTF?? Frazier better than Ali too? Jones waited too long before fighting Tarver in the first place. Had they fought 3-5 years earlier than the first fight,Jones would've clearly won, nobody told him to move up the heavyweight then back down. He should have just stayed @ heavy & fought the smaller heavy's,Bird, Holyfield, rematch with James Toney, and finally Tyson..then retired. I should've been his manager.
DSmith3613 3 years ago
yeah i think roy was 48-1 when he beat ruiz. he should of fought byrd or toney(more so byrd)that would have put him at 49-1 and his LAST fight should have been against tyson to go 50-1 then retire. then his name would have been in the holy trinity of Ali/Robinson/Jones
sunzyu1 3 years ago
What you say is true and if he had followed your plans he most definately would have been one the best ever. But edging a decision over Tarver really hurt and then the 2 ko's to Tarver and Johnson makes people question his career. People said the same about Leonard but he did beat Hearns,Hagler,Duran and Benitez.
nobbin19 3 years ago
true but you see those fighters specifically mike tyson didnt take the fight with jones...even lennox luis...by time jones got to heavyweight...lewis fought against klitchko then retired...holyfield turned down a fight...i dont blame em....to beat a small former middleweight isnt much...to lose to a small former middle weight is shameful in terms of being a heavyweight
cassius214 3 years ago
i wasnt sure that he would win those fights...hell i wasnt sure he would of won the fight with ruiz being that all it takes is one punch....roy made it look so easy that critics called ruiz a push over...discrediting jones...i do believe jones would of beaten holyfield and tyson...lewis....to beat him...would of silenced every critic in history...

usma211 3 years ago
Jones at his best was definitely better than Tarver ever was at his best, and I'm a big Jones fan, but.... being objective, I thought Tarver might have won their first fight. Sadly, Jones' style was a young man's style, he declined from his prime (when he was one of the best all-time period) quickly. And also the weight gain to Heavyweight, I think he never recovered.
PS: I define "best" and "greatest" as two different - albeit usually related - classifications.

he would not have caught jones- tyson was 5 ft 11inches in a division with giants where he was overmatched in terms of size-he indeed was a small heavy- and u hav the nerve to say duran was a tru lightweight if we put the same rule into effect tyson essentialy was a lightweight often givin up 20 to 30 pds
lightninglopez 3 years ago
clinching is 4 out of shape fighters tucker was a bum and tyson destroyed larry who mind u came bak and beat mercer and did decent against holyfield- he really wasnt all that bad when he fought mike but like tyson woulda did to ali holmes crumbled becuz in his youth tyson was the most explosive heavy in the history of the sport dont deny mr 147 he was
lightninglopez 3 years ago
In which case, Tyson was neutralised and taken the distance by a bum! Just like those other bums Smith, Tillis and Green who also took him the distance in his prime. Tyson was not the most explosive heavyweight of all time those nights. Holmes was 38 and had been inactive for two years when he fought Tyson.
Aurelian147 3 years ago
tyson jones, dont make me throw in my boi the terrible one who beat the shi outtah yeah i know ur inactive buddy ray lenny wilkins. any way bak 2 p4p tyson was a lil guy whoppin dem big boyz his sheer talent as a heavy is unparreled like jones hag was a real blu collar guy with heart and good fundementals did u c that old version of ray leonard frustrate the hell outtah him- jones would been twice as unpredictable and woulda brought more power 2 the table
lightninglopez 3 years ago
i love hag but he was just tyo slow a young tyson is like a young jones at their peaks they could'nt b touched u hav forgotten how both of these men could maintain thier explosive styles thoughout the course of a fight when they were in their primes tyson quit training enter douglas-in his prime baby i say an old ali would do good against an old tysonn if its any consolation hell ur boy roy woulda done good against an old tyson

those guys would'nt have been able to keep up thats like matching a mustang against a ferrari- i'll give u another controversial example I beleive mike tyson in his prime woulda walked through ur boy clay and punished him 4 15rds reason being tyson was complete offensively and defensively ur boy clay was a head hunter who rarely went to the bread basket and like jones at 20 tyson's cast iron chin would hav withstood the anchor punch lol!!!dont bring up patterson just becuz cus trained him

wow- u just dont like him its cool- I hope Roy Wins another belt against a formidable opponent so i can find u and rub it in real tough- u say duran was alight weight the essence of the p4 p tiltle is ones ability to b compared to fighters heavier and what they would do if god gave them additioinal size roy was a middle he won the heavyweight title the essence of what p4p iz only he actually moved up and physiclly proved p4p he is to bn compared to rr
lightninglopez 3 years ago
so duran didnt hav a beard he got crucified and did'nt get up against hearns- jus admit roy @ his best in his prime was unlike any other and could hav prolly beat anyone in there prime because of his ability to hit and not b hit the essence of the sport he held it down and transcended the game mayweather as good as he is is no roy jones to b a fighter u hav to hav heart and to b a champion u hav to have a decent chin. he go caught like duran, like lennox, like hearn who was better than barkely
lightninglopez 3 years ago
ray lankford and hagler could b in there as well as henry armstrong, but u put leonard on there when leonard was roys age he let macho humiliate him roy beat a good young fighter in anthony hanshaw and tatooed trinidad who was still game and showed flashes- like i said lennox got caught twice it can happen to anyone its the nature of the sport-fighters like donald curry and mark breland had suspect chins roy held it down for years he beat em all he is a legend- benard vs joe?

by the way when i called sam ray it was one of my lil inuendos as u debate with me youll learn this

Depends how much Hopkins has left in the tank.
Aurelian147 3 years ago
I think joe does alot of things in the ring well , but i also think he mimmicks american fighters and does'nt understand whats takin place in the ring in other words he makes moves and does'nt know the purpose- consequently he is easy to find -he looked suspect against soliman bika and had atougher time than i think he expected with kessler- he'll giv hopkins too much respect and b timid-but will prolly get a decision anyway
lightninglopez 3 years ago
P4P Ray Robinson,Clay,Salvador, jones,rocky,louis,emile griffith,hopkins,tyson..........mayweather?????????
lightninglopez 3 years ago
But seriously for u to hop on the band wagon that roy was good just becuz he was fast is absurd- thats like comparing him to tyson Roy Jones had longevity and hes still around when we speak of fighters like joe louis and ray robinson we look at them at thier best and compare them to others at their best not when thier old and broke and well past their primes giv roy his respect
lightninglopez 3 years ago
u got a 147 after ur name maybe ur a welterweight? if u aint fought pro i dont expect u to understand- but u dont go through an illustrious ameuture career have 50 pro fights and only get ur chin tested once the delvalle shot was devastating roy had a delayed reaction - however he was still young enough to get up- just like tyson as he kept getting hit and aging his chin got weaker to b a top 10 p4p u gotta hav a chin PERIOD

and while i'm thinking about it... why are we discussing Muhammad Ali on a Roy Jones Jr. vid? Why do people turn on a fighter the moment he's knocked out? That doesn't erase his prior accomplishments.

there are so many other boxers i would have rathered watched knock out my favourite boxer. i don't think tarver deserves that claim to fame. I hope he gets past woods and they fight again
jade2686 3 years ago
it damaged roys body cumin backdown from heavyweight.but i feel roy won this fight by 2 or 3 points
predatoro3 3 years ago 2
roy jones technically only lost to two boxers, and wht's the record of Ali, Liston, Holmes, Foremen, Tyson, Lewis , Holyfield etc? are they had a perfect record? the answer is no, they all once getting KO but doesnt mean lost their legacy at their prime.

Ali was never knocked out!
butterp7 3 years ago
Ali may have never been knocked out but he's been knocked down several times... In fact Frazier knocked him down 6 times in two rounds before ultimately going on to win the fight. I believe Jones deserves to be recognized as one of the greatest fighters... My opinion
SouthernFats 3 years ago 4
no he got knocked down in either round 12 or 13 by a left hook in the first fight.
aakaaxaaz 3 years ago
Oh and for the record... Ali was knocked down twice in the first fight with Frazier... Look it up...
ElevatedBlue 3 years ago
Look what up? Ali went down once against Frazier.

Um. What? Frazier did NOT knock Ali down 6 times. He knocked him down once, in the 15th round of their first fight. I'm not even sure if Ali got knocked down six times in his entire career. Get your facts straight before posting such bold comments.
mrtony80 3 years ago
Sorry aakaaxaaz...This comment was actually meant for mrtony80... Oh and for the record... Ali was knocked down twice in the first fight with Frazier... Look it up... Get YOUR facts straight before posting such bold comments.

You're a bigger Idiot than SouthernFats, Ali was only knocked down once... The other so called "knock down" was ruled a slip in the 10th or 11th round.

what the fuck our you talkin buot
ezcowboy 3 years ago
Frazier was knocked down 6 times by Foreman. No one ever did that to Ali. Ali was knocked down three times in his career. Jones KO'd by the first opponents to seriously test his chin.
Aurelian147 3 years ago
firt opponent to test his chin? do you know how hard those gloves r? believe me his chins been gettin g tested for a while hopkins, toney, del valle, ruiz- he got k'd from all the shots he took throughout his ameuture and pro career Ali got stopped by larry holmes by the wy on the stool @ the end of his career like jones
