  • It was visible for a few days by people in the northern hemisphere. Before that it was visible by people in southern hemisphere but it was further away then. It is not visible now except with very large telescopes.

  • maybe a dumb question? how long was it visible. like did ppl on the other side of the earth see it?

  • That is a LEO (low earth orbit) satellite passing by.

  • whats that thing passing by ate 11 seconds?

  • God... 240 meters of rock at 8.5m/s - so bloody fast and this video isn't even from a stationary perspective...

  • MIB - Pardon me while I rotate my head 360 degrees.... ah, feels good now.

  • Answer to not so stupid question: if that had hit Earth it would have taken out a city or two, caused tsunamis, and recked the economy (not that it's not already recked)...

  • MIB

  • i was eating breakfast the other day. i looked in the freezer at 8:00 am & there were no waffles. i had to eat bagels instead. 2012 is soon.

  • Thank you, sir. Much better than the NASA rotating rock. I find your site of interest please upload more authentic videos from Starhoo.

  • hey 2005 YU55, Y U no crash on planet Earth

  • i seen a ufo 2days ago at 8:00pm & a beam of light coming down from it but another spaceship came from under it with bright lights it was going towards the ground...then it dissappeared out of nowhere..i know someone else seen it too. 2012 is soon

  • Okay stupid question. . .

Was this big enough that if it would've hit earth, it could've killed all living things?

  • @twitchster77 No. It has just the size of an aircraft carrier.

  • @twitchster77: Well, it depends on many things: the angle of entry, whether it hit land or sea, its composition, etc. For reference, look up the Tunguska Event. In 1908, a 70-meter asteroid entered the atmosphere above Siberia and exploded in the air. It didn't need to actually hit the earth to flatten thousands of square kilometers of forest. So, yeah, I think a 400-meter asteroid could wipe us out.

  • @RogueReplicant would of caused a 70 foot high tsunami from what ive read so it wouldnt of been nice.. probly even worse if it hit land

  • @696TheDon696: Yup, that's what I read, too. A huge tsunami spreading from the point of impact. A land impact might have triggered volcanoes and earthquakes, creating a gigantic worlwide ash cloud.

  • 0:12 flying hacker

  • 0:11 is two

  • Given the distance that thing is blisteringly fast!.

  • Satellite orbits are much closer to Earth than YU255's orbit, so the satellite whizzing by in the beginning of the video appears to be moving faster (relative to the asteroid) because it is that much closer. Example: say you're watching a jet soaring by at 35,000 feet, then say a small airplane 1000 feet high flies by in the same general direction - it will appear that the small airplane is moving faster than the jet, but it is not.

  • antifacts(dot)com has updated images of YU55

  • @RyanMalaty cool we'll have a closer encounter on 2028, 29

  • @Darkprince13: Consider the size of a bullet to the damage it can cause to a human body.

  • Is it just me or is there a sorta black spot about 1/3 of the way down, 1/3 of the way from the left of the video, on every scene?

  • wau ke pasada las cosas ke ace dios me encantaaaa!!! ;)

  • If it hit the earth it would cause a 4 mile wide blast zone and trigger 7.0 earth quake

  • We could really FUC|- that asteroid up if our planet hit it!

  • They said it was going roughly 29,000mph ...that's about 12,964.16 meters per second.

Imaging if that hit earth... or we watched it hit the moon? gnarly.

  • So that's what's gonna happen December 2012!!!

  • holy shit

  • @ AMATOLMAN People would freak out if they did that

  • @ spinmonkey4401 I agree!

  • Amazing how such a tiny object (compared to Earth) could do so much damage... I wonder how

  • and now wait for Apophis ..(^-^) 2029-2036

  • The quick moving streak going in and out of view is a satellite. The asteroid was moving past Delphinus, Aquila, and then thru Pegasus during the night.

As a reference, Meteor Crater in Arizona - which is about 4000 ft. diameter - was caused by a 60 meter wide asteroid. The one that passed over Earth last night was about 400 meters wide.

  • @starhoox1 Great info! Thanks for the upload

  • @starhoox1 A Satellite ?? the Asteroid was moving at 8 miles per second i very much doubt Satellites even get near that speed let alone moving fast which it obviously was...

  • @starhoox1 sickkk

  • wich one of the two moving objects were the asteroid?

  • It was made from about 320, 20-second images. The asteroid was moving toward the northeast. The orientation of the video from the top is WNES. So, North is on the right, East on the bottom. This is why the asteroid is moving from left (south) to right (as it goes northward). And the primary direction is from west to east.

  • Very nice capture. How many images did you put together and what was the exposure time?

  • Thanks for the HD!

  • Bruce Willis would never let that happen.

  • cool video, thanks

  • I wish it hit Earth. I'd like to see some of this crappy humanity wiped out.

  • Great capture and thanks for the video. That sure was an great event last night.

  • That was a satellite passing overhead.

  • what the hell was the faster thing in the start of video at aournd 00:10

  • @slangene

Meteor? It's not necessarily that it's faster, but they are much much closer and burn out in our atmosphere so they would appear many times faster

  • Surely your ninja training has tought you what earth is, what space is, and stuff like that...

  • i dont get it ?

what is the earth and what is the asteroid?

  • I'm pretty sure that white dot was a satellite...

  • I liked the part where the white dot went across the screen!

  • Muy bueno es genial !!!

  • WOW! Amazing video!!!

  • great job man. thx for u vid

  • Nice job, Mike. I'm glad you were able to obtain the coordinates.

  • wowowowow

  • I guess they think if it didn't hit earth it's not news (same people who think astrology and astronomy are the same thing)...

  • This should have been front page news, but my local paper has it on page 10!

  • Great footage!

  • love it!!!! I`m sharing :)

  • @starhoox1 thats cool i thought it was going to look bigger and do you know whats comeing by earth now is some asteroid comeing thats bigger

  • WEEEEEEEEEEEeEeEeEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • Very cool! Thank you for posting this video.

  • Great job Starhoox!!!

  • Worst fake ever!

  • @duspond

Not a fake, dummy, but maybe you are.

  • @starhoox1 ahahahh ! nice one ! xD

  • Mother of god..

  • Man that's really moving.

  • great job capturing the asteroid. i wish i could have seen it through a decent telescope, and now i have.

  • D'accord.

  • Nice video =) ... thanks for sharing...

  • There is a small army of amateur and professional astronomers who regular monitor and collect astrometric data on the many asteroids, near-earth-objects out there. The data is used to update orbit paths. NASA and other agenencies are seriously brainstorming about ways to deflect an asteroid or comet impact.

  • what bothers me is sooner or latter we will get nailed with one of those..and i doubt any government will sound a warning to the impact point due to the fear of panic...it will be a mass killing even for that area

  • This is the first video I have found with an absolutely fantastic footage of the flyby, Thanks.

  • Pues parece ser un meteoro xDD

  • Que es lo que artaviesa en segundo 00:11

  • Nice !

  • Thanks for share! ;-)

  • Thanks! I wish we could see it in St. Louis, though... The sky is completely obscured by clouds...

  • Comment removed

  • Well thanks for sharing. That was quick!

  • that ufo at the start was going way faster!

  • @smiles1969able It was likely within our atmosphere, which would make it appear that way.

  • @Shadosia however you want to spin it

  • @smiles1969able i know! wth was that?

  • Thanks for sharing...Thumbs!

  • awesome!!
