Malachi 3 Says bring tithes and offerings or you'll be cursed with a curse. Paul said he that soweth sparingly will reap also sparingly. Ananias and Sapphira died over lying about their offering. You're right. Paul did not ask for money, but the church at Philipi gave to him, and he told them that he could do without (thats the famous Phil 4:13- I can do all things...), but he accepted their gifts because it would bless them.

Paul was in a different situation than these today preachers.  Lets not get it twisted. The prosperity gospel is a sham and not Biblical. Again, Paul didn't 'ask' for anything. The 'tithes' that the church speaks of today was NOT money, but gifts for the levitical priests. Offerings are to be given of a free will nature, and not because someone said you'd receive this or that.

I grew up COGIC and experienced the prosperity dogma. Ministers would state behind the pulpit that God spoke to them and told them that He was going to give a special blessing to 50 people who sow a $100 seed (for example). You could not doubt or question for fear of being cursed or blocking your blessing. Now, I am not suggesting that the COGIC denomination supports this mess. But it is one of the many experiences of manipulation that traumatized me. Today, I do not practice organized religion.
