I'm trying to figure out where your camera is mounted?? Wonderful clips, showing an interesting variety of vintage cars (944 Porsche?). Sounds like you need a limited slip or locked rear end... :)
@lincspeed The cam is mounted inside the car, upper left hand side of the windshield. The rear end is an 80% lock and designed for racing, but in a few of the races it had started to fail - nice catch!
Holy ****! And I thought I took chances in the retro expansion for Race 07 (a PC racing simulation for those of you who don't know)! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, hoping none of those classic cars ended up wrecked! Whew, I need a drink!
At 5:00 minutes into it there is a black or navy car in front of you. Does anyone know what type it is? Looks like a couple of different cars but I can't place that trunk lid. Thanks..
@jackhealy1 must be one heavy foot. And a very skilled driver too huh? Well I live 30 minutes from PIR, and used to own a 72 2002 so I always root for any that are out racin!
LOL - well "skilled" is a relative term. Actually my motor compared to other 2002's I race against is not any more powerful. ...in fact when I raced in New Zealand (several clips in this video are from that trip), I used my "B" motor which is about 20 hp less than the A motor. I wanted more reliability on an International trip where I had no backup. You can actually here the difference between the two and the NZ segments and say, Laguna Seca.
Wow, Pete certainly has terrorized some other cars and drivers!! Good work on the early drive and late breaking. I thought a few cars were going to get centerpunched or rear ended! Quality Maniac!
Nice, I love watching this stuff. at 2:04 I've played Gran Turismo enough to know that is a hard left turn, and that's in a video game, can't imagine the real thing.
AT 2:04 that's turn 2 at Laguna Seca. It's actually a double apex left at the end of the long straight and when you push your braking point, well, you see the result.
LOL - well, I hope I'm not possessed, but I'll take that as a compliment! As for 5a/b 6 complex at PR - my unconventional line is more commonly referred to as the "fast line" - well, that's what I keep telling myself anyway... :-)
type4968 - there are many individual vids of many of these races - just look at my other videos. Due to the 10 minute limitation with YouTube, the clipping was necessary to get all the things in that I wanted...
Fantastic bit of 02ing but...........bit annoying with all the clipping. Can you do different vids of different races rather than all rolled into one?? Great drivin by the way!!
That video is plain superb. I own a vintage car myself, an '80 Mercedes 280CE, but as a student I just don't have the money to race it (yet), I work a LOT and can barely afford fuel and taxes (which really rape your wallet in Germany), let alone the repairs that are due (the car's current condition could be described as "driveable" if you put it nicely).
I'd totally like to try it however, especially as the car is quite fast (top speed ca. 130 mph), and has solid handling.
I run a standard M10 engine (not stroked) but with custom cam, higher compression and dual 45 carbs to meet the "vintage rules" here.
The first part of this video shows some action in New Zealands "Southern Festival of Speed" (February, 2008). I hope to race in Australia someday. ...perhaps with my other '69 02 that I will be running in at Targa Newfoundland this year. We are considering the Targa event in Australia for next year.
Great clips, driving by some was more yahooy than I was expecting for vintage, thought it was a bit more 'genteel'. Good that the 944 driver only took out himself, wanker.
Typically in vintage racing the main rules are "no contact" and "stay on the asphalt". The only off road excursions I had last year were either to avoid hitting a spinning car or some other type of evasive action. Other than the incident in New Zealand where I was hit from behind after the checkered flag, there was no other contact and most of us in the world of vintage racing work hard at keeping it that way.
I was born in 1990 I missed the golden age of the BMW. Proud owner of an '87 435i. Would have loved to see the old 2002's on the track like this.

I knew the 944 was going to go off, sure did...
So many expensive cars on the track at once, kinda of scary, but clean racing here...

Holy sh*t. You drive like a man possessed! I will say this, you have a very "unconventional" line through the 5a - 6 complex @ Pacific Raceways.
Good clip, keep 'em comin' and I'll see you at PR for the Defrost Kickoff in April.

Hello VanniGio - great to hear from a fellow 2002 owner.
The "hot turn" was Turn 2 at Laguna Seca. ...yeah, I went a little too deep on that one.
The next bit you mentioned was from Pacific Raceways in Seattle during the July Historics. Some great racing action that weekend!

What is "Pete" running, motor size, carbs or injection, cam?
I can only dream for my 2002 to stick to the road like that!!!
