need help when i plug it in my computer with the jack it haz very loud playack, I mean its playing it back as im saying it, not after ive recorded it and also my camera doesnt hav a mic input so i asmued i coul duse my iphone to record audio bit no
Hi, I've seen that there are 2 types of this mic, the HT-81 and the HT-81A, according to the description the only difference between them is that the HT-81A has both DC1.5V and DC48V listed as power supply, while HT-81 only has DC1.5V. So, does this mean that HT-81 can not be powered via phantom power? Or it can be, but this clicking noise occurs? So with HT-81A there should be no clicking noise...or? I'm confused.
I've got the short version, HTDZ-320A, in phantom power at 48V it makes clicking sounds, BUT at 24V phantom power it doesn't make any clicking sound, and the sound is cleaner from bg noise than recording with a new AA alkaline battery!
I have a question: I know its been a year, and I'm wondering, Have you tested the microphone on phantom power again, and had tried changing cables to see if it still had the same popping results? If you have tested the phantom power again, was the results different than the first time around?
hey mate can you please help me, i got one of these the other day, im running if through my guitar amp with headphones and comes out perfect, but when i run it though my camera all i get is hissing and crackeling and have to hold the input to keep it in stereo
@heinygore2 Well, the hissing may be caused by one or more factors. My HP DV6500 laptop for example, produced a hiss with the original and a cheap replacement power adaptors, then I bought a Targus power adapter and boom! no more static hiss. Then today used an external mic, hooked up to a mixer, then to a camcorder, but I had this loud hiss. The fix: while I kept the mixer volumes up, I simply turned down the camera's mic volume down. Maybe your pc has the imput level too loud.
@heinygore2 Hi, I am a Pro Tools certified Sound Engineer with 11 years experience. I deal with damaged audio all the time and there is nothing wrong with using noise removal plug ins or racks as long as the engineer knows exactly what to do. There are tons of ways to fix noise related issues. Please let me know if you would like my assistance.
@BubbaGump0722 I wanted to ask the same question im looking for a cheap good quality mic for under 50$ (with shipping and handling) and the htdz ht-81 seems like a good choice.
@lollalot well if u watch some of the 12 year olds unboxing.. u will see that it comes with a hot shoe "flash" adaptor
Hay mate, when ya recorded to your external sound box using and XLR-XLR cable, did the mic acctually have sterio capabilities? I.E. if you walked around the mic the channels faded/gained complamentary? Please respond cuz if so this is an outstanding piece of gear for its price!!!!!
Great video! How are you compressing your audio for YouTube? I feel like I'm going crazy. My vocals always sound distorted to me on YouTube. Is it just me? Copy and paste "My two favorite UNIX/Linux books! Part 1" in the YouTube search bar to hear one of my videos recorded with CAD E200. Sounds great pre-uploading to YouTube.
Hi nice review :) have you tried the E1G (SKU) mic also on Ebay? It's a little more pricey but is it better?
The reason is that the HTDZ mic doesn't come with a flash-shoe if you want to use it with a camera and it also has an 8m long cord, not ideal for connecting to your camera.
@lollalot The HTDZ I have came with a shoe mount. Obviously using it would be completely pointless since mics on camera are the worst thing ever. But it comes with one.
@lollalot Ideally you would want 2 mics, one for left and one for right to do it properly. For recording ambiance or something. Recording humans would always be mono anyway.
Now theres a thought, and affordable with mics of this price. I also have an Olympus LS5 PCM recorder that I would use the mic with. Got the LS5 as it has a nice low noise floor, goodish reviews and popped-up at a really great price one night on eBay. The idea was to use the LS5 to capture ambient stereo then the shotgun to target specifics then mix. New to this AV lark so I may be taling utter rubbish here. Will talk to you about the 4 rotor aircraft via that thread sometime, looks fantastic!
At the price, about 20GBP inc shipping here in the UK you can't really go far wrong I guess, you could spend £20 on shipping alone anyway. I might give the shorter version a try as I want to use it mounted on a Panasonic SD-700 and the 14" version would be a bit on the large size for such a camera, I can grab shock mount from anywhere or even make one. The other thing is you have confirmed the mic is still working well. Thanks!
I don't need a super uper monster mic, but i considered buying the rode videomic but know saw this HTDZ HT-81 but it's a little bit too long for using it on my D7000 (would have changed the cable to a twisted like the rode videomic anyway) but if there is a schorter verion, that would be great
Now you have had this mic for a few months and may be used it in more demanding circumstances what are you thoughts? I'm going round in circles myself and can't make my mind up what to get, HTDZ, Rode Videomic or may be even a Rode NTG2.
@ironspider1960 IMHO the Videomic and the NTG would be superior. I actually use the HTDZ quite a bit for "demanding" high risk applications, and occasionally for interviews on a boom stand. It works good. Great for the price even, but if your budget allows it I think the real mics are superior.
Hey thank you for the great review and comparisons. Btw do you have any recommendation for cheap sound recorder for use with the HT-81 boom because my camera does not have Mic Input. I am just starting out so the fostex field recorder might be too expensive for me. Any recommendations?
@fatfatboy5 Hey I tested the same mic HTDZ HT-81 with phanton power and it is working very good, look like the one you tested is not good, but in real to me is working fine..
I'm recording with a brand new Rode NTG-2 into my Canon EOS Rebel T2i and it seems to have a tremendous amount of noise in the background. What should I do?
@davcoolbeans You can't record directly into the T2i (Or 7D, or 5D without the new firmware) There is no way to control the gain, so the camera does it for you, very poorly. Even if you could do it, the preamps suck. You need to use an external audio recorder or some sort (Zoom h4n, Tascam, Fostex or something similar)
@MaghoxFr The phantom powered test is what I really disliked but then I realized that this mic isn't designed for phantom power, the one that is, is the HT-81A, (very similar names, confusing). It sounds ok, the thing is that for a few more bucks you can get the Rode Videomic that is much superior. I'm hesitating, I might try this chinese one though.
@MaghoxFr I have to say when powered from battery the HTDZ sound far BETTER than the Rode in my opinion. The "few extra bucks" works out at about $80-90 for the Rode so Id say the chinese mic seems like a real bargain.
@RetroRepair Yeah, you're right, I can get a Rode videomic for 105 and this chinese mic (taxes included is around 50 dolars) so it's not much of a difference. But I thing I'll give the HT-81 a try...
@MaghoxFr Ah, in the UK it's £20 shipped. The Rode on the other hand is £75. I'd say if you were debating the $50 defecit though you might be able to afford something better? Check out juicedLink for some nice ones with low-high voltage phantom power

I bought this mic to record through audacity and i'm getting some bad hissing no matter what.
Other videos using the same mic don't have this hissing.
does anyone know how to fix this without using a noise removal tool.
thanks
