In response to exotikk1's answer-and your question, Yes Niobe killed herself-because Vorenus found out that the child wasn't his, the man that was the father was killed by Pullo and Octavian!
In many historical films, they unrealistically give a woman a sword or bow and arrow and get them to fight with the men to make them seem 'strong' (king arthur for one and that rubbish robin hood series).
I love how Rome showed the true power of women with their influence, political insight and social manipulation. A strength that is subtle but important.
Only a complete fool, who watched the series superficially, could believe his compliments were sincere. He was speaking tongue-in-cheek and listing all of the qualities of virtue that Roman women DIDN'T have! His speech was actually a sarcastic criticism of Roman women and his belief that through their scheming they caused infighting, tore the country apart, and that their actions are what led to Civil War and would eventually lead to the fall of Rome. He was really saying that women are shit!
dont be such an idiot, no roman would dare use romulus and remus to mock anything. To do so would be to mock themself. It is clearly a tribute to the stature of roman women who uphold traditional roman morals. There is a clear reference to cloelia, who eluded her etruscan captors and lead other roman women accross the tiber back to rome.
The status of women in Rome was very different from ancient Greece. Women in ancient Greece were secluded and never appeared in public life. In Rome, women were much more prominent, and appeared with their husbands in banquets and our public venues.
Cynacism can not explain the greatness of the Roman state.
Jesus you probably dont know enything abaut roman law. woman was always a agnatic daughter of shes husband even after his death there was a tutela institution a widow cant do enything without a aggrement of her patron. there was a meny rights that men had but women didynt have
Lol, read his post. He didn't deny that women were unequal under the law with men. He merely said that the women of Rome had more rights than those of Greece.
It's hilarious that stupid women actually believe Octavian's speech was meant to be a tribute to women! He was speaking SARCASTICALLY! He talks about their "virtue"- when they obviously had none. They were scheming, manipulative, sluts-- hardly virtuos women. He talks about their "loyalty"- yet one of the female leads was pushed her son into murdering Caesar, who was Rome's hero. He says the women "bind Rome together"-when it was these women who caused family fueds and prompted Civil War! LMAO !
I loved this video! It's amazing!Women's part in history is so neglected...Just because they didn't went around killing people doesn't mean they didn't have an important role in history...
I liked how you did the original version better, with less dislouge. But I loved the Atia quote at the end, it's my favorite part of the entire series!

Niobe killed herself by falling backward off her balcony. Her last words were "The child is blameless". The clip is on youtube somewhere.

great work and thank you for sharing it.
I watched Rome series one and two and i really wish they would do a series 3 and maybe 4.
Perhaps they could do a must more polished (and up to date) version of I'Claudius.
If you havent seen I'Claudius i can highly recommend it, it covers teh emperors including Octavian and up to the start of Nero.
fantastic drama, and I love how the writers of Rome portrayed Livia as much of a bitch as she was shown in Claudius back in 1976.
