its a hollow body played through a two rock dude... pretty specific sound combo. get a gretsch and you might get close if you play out of an older amp like a 70's fender reverb or something of that nature. just my opinion but I feel like the les paul pick-ups are too high output to sound as light and natural as john's set-up here.

i have to acknowledge the fact that Mr. Mayer here is my favorite musical artist. I love absolutely all his music. He is a GREAT guitarist.absolutely. But then there are some moments where hes playing where the combination of notes sound so sweet it hits me on a level that i dont even know. almost like its intimate and euphoric. nearly sending me into a trance because it sounds so freaking good to my ears.
