  • If anybody knows his rock n' roll history its Bruce. The Bobby Fuller Four had a hit with this in 1965 and its sound goes back to Buddy Holly. Bobby Fuller even came from Lubbock Texas and it was written by the Crickets. quite a pedigree.

  • Can't see the problem ..I am a massive Springsteen fan

I am also a massive fan of The Clash and ....wait for it SO IS BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN..he even done a rousing rendition of London Calling in tribute to Joe Strummer. I like all 3 versions all for different reasons.

  • @GravCatt it was written by Sonny Curtis and the Crickets

  • The Clash didn't even write "I Fought The Law."

  • BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN HAS HIS OWN LAW no need to kick ass, unless Micheal O Leary is doing a callender

  • History

The song was written in 1958 by Sonny Curtis, and recorded in 1959 when he joined the Crickets, taking the place of the late Buddy Holly on guitar.

  • Joe likes the cover??? Well, i dont like Springsteen, sincerely, and its boring this version, RIP JOE! Long live to Punk!

  • Joe would love you Bruce. RIP Joe, 22nd december.

  • The clash do this song better

  • OH YEAH! :D

  • OCCUPY Wall Street !!

We Fought the Law and the People Won

  • i love this song, the version the clash and green day did sucked! the "rock" version is mych better. fk punk!

  • @83petro hi, fuck off. punk is awesome. you're probably just to much of a pussy to listen to it.

  • to the guy who said that all songs by the Clash are cheap imitations, you can't call Bobby Fuller's version that because his is the first recording

  • @Dracosign Bobby Fuller wasnt the first to do this song. It was The Crickets in 1959.

  • The only version of this song that matter is by The Clash. All other versions are just cheap imitations!

  • b.s. perfect initials..the most over-rated rocker of all time...talented band..singer and writer..but where 's the beef ?...see the CLASH who OWN this song.

  • Mike Ness (Social D) nails this tune on his solo album Under the Influences.

  • this man is on drugs... let the cocaine that will cover his body be light. shit on his grave

  • @MforMetalhead66

The "Voices" are controlling your thoughts again!

Remember, Saturday is the Blue Tablet. You will be ok once you swallow. Calm down Freak, calm down.

  • Good old fashioned rock 'n roll from the Bobby Fuller Four days. Great performance.

  • Holy Smokes! I just had a flashback after my comment below...I saw Bruce perform this on the Darkness Tour in '78. Thirty years down the road and he still delivers.

  • @sawmillslim I saw him also on that tour and he did covers way better back then, The night I went he played Rave On by Buddy Holly and he killed it. The E Street Band was at there best (I feel) on the Darkness and River tours no doubt. They just kicked ass every night. No BS just kick ass in your face R&R. I did not care for the Born in the USA tour at all. Not having Little Steven left a big hole in the band.

  • I have a feeling that Bruce got some mileage covering this one while in his early bands in the '60's....this request was spontaneous...Bruce and the EStreeters were a bit rusty, granted, but he made up for it with a real nice chord solo. Viva Springsteen!

  • Bruce always "use" a funny face when he sing!

  • bobby fuller gave this video a thumbs up!!!

  • If you would wipe that little bit of moisture from the corner of your eye, and loose that

joyful soul, maybe someone would believe you missed the best girl you ever had.

  • This is abominable. The tempo is dragging, the band sounds leaden, and God only knows why Bruce appears to be so pleased with his tuneless bellowing. He does a nice job on the chord solo, I'll give him that. Critics, please view the Crickets and Bobby Fuller Four versions to hear how this song can sound before responding.

  • @neojohn44 Paying Tribute to Strummer. Who are you the Times music critic.

  • Have viewed it.

Note that this is being done spontaneously and live. Note that his band don't particularly know it. Note that Bruce seems pleased whenever he's covering and actually has fun with he's music. Note that he's more talented than you.

  • kewl bruce doing i fought the law

  • Nobody ever plays the chord sequence the way the hit Fuller Four version plays it. You need that open D chord with the B# in the trademark chord riff. Sonny Curtis wrote the tune while 16 in study hall. Hence the line "robbing people with a zip gun".

  • jeeez guys, does it matter who wrote it, the seminal version was done by Mr Joe Strummer and The Clash....Springsteen does it well, enough said, now shut up and listen and appreciate x

  • @comaiom The seminal version is from Sonny Curtis... and Bobby Fuller got a great succes with the song. Every decade has a hero.

  • "I think there is a solo" "one" *starts playing* hahaha XD epic by the boss

  • this sounds much more like the bobby fuller version anyway, and that rock & roll / surf style fits the band a lot better anyway. great cover though.

  • Ok we get it! You knew Joe Strummer now stop murdering his songs!

  • @bitchenhitchen

But you apparently don't. This is not a Joe Strummer-song, even though the Clash did cover it once upon a time.

  • @kidjon3 I know this song was originally by Sonny Curtis and The Crickets but The Clash perfected it. Oh and i was also refering to his cover of London Calling.

  • @kidjon3 It's a country song, shock horror

  • Yes of course in music Elvis and John Lennon were seminal. But without Buddy Holly and the Crickets and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, things would be quite different in our little ant lifetimes.

  • Never mind Joe Strummer, What do Sonny Curtis & Earl Sinks think of it?

Sonny Wrote it, Earl Sang it first.

  • Do you really need to put "have a great day" at the end of your stupid remarks just to feel clever?

  • I can understand if Springsteen's not somebody's cup of tea, but to say he sucks makes someone sound quite ignorant. Have a nice day.. lol

  • @KleWdSide LOL! The guy who wrote that has commented on like a million Bruce-videos just to say that he sucks... Ignorance is just the right word to describe him, I'd say. XD

  • @KleWdSide The Boss rules, but this is not his speed. He comes across sounding like a campy gimmick playing this song. People need to stop embarrassing themselves trying to play this song. There's one version of this song that matters: The Clash live. That's it.

  • @GentlemanHES Wrong. The problem is the quality of this video. It may look great, but the sound is kinda shitty.

  • @GentlemanHES duh. This is EVERYBODY's song. Thanks Bruce for your take. and Bobby Fuller, and the Clash, and the Crickets, and every live version sung every nite in every juke joint. Great music is timeless, as kis Joe Strummer, and Bobby Fuller. Preserve endangered music. long live r&r.

  • @gsavage115 The Clash used to do this as a warm-up song before recording sessions. It was their manager, Bernie Rhodes, who insisted it be included on their (US) debut album.

  • Joe Strummer loves this version im sure, god rest his soul.

  • @OliJakupNielsen

    I'm sure of that.

I'm also sure that The Crickets never expected their song would became so famous when it was published in 1959.

  • @OliJakupNielsen Strummer once said; "Bruce is great. If you don't agree, then you're a pretentious martian from Mars."

  • @OliJakupNielsen you know this song isnt by the clash right?

  • I was there ! This was so awesome =D

  • ich liebe diesen song :-))

  • Love that song!! Thanks a lot for posting!!!

  • GREAT!!!!!!!

  • fantastic
