Education. The consumer is just as responsible. Any amount of poor decisions affect what everyone watches, eats, listens to and reads. Record breaking profits mean someone is buying. Lets change the content with better education.
I love how it's saying "we're looking for forward thinkers, leaders in their own culture" and it immediately shows a guy in a gas mask sounding somewhere between the Pyro and a Starwars Sand Person.
"if you work in marketing or advertising,,,,,,,kill yourself" Bill Hicks
consumerism is so poisionous, this is really hard to watch, well done FRONTLINE is one of the best shows, but this particular subject is really hard to watch
@fraterlucifer888 If you had the opportunity to become wealthy, you surely wouldn't mind selling a few products to a crowd of unfamiliar faces... Instead of selling those burgers at your current employment.
Cool can't be defined but what you decorate yourself. It isn't an image that can be bought or sold. Cool is a state of mind...who you are and you either got it or you don't. No amount of money or "cool hunting" can make you cool.
basically cool is an evolving disease or virus , spreading and killing whatever virtue or trait it makes popular . eventually what will be the ultimate cool? will old trends resurface? or will cool run out of victims and we will all be allowed to truly think for ourselves?
If we made everything look the same, taste the same, smell the same We could almost get a second chance. It would be like by taking away ideas, new ideas would develop but not to be sold. Be ignorant of what anybody around the world is wearing. Take away any medium of advertisment. What you don't know can't hurt you.
totally right. I think the point was how a group called ICP can manipulate their audience by fueling teen rebellion. It's been happening since the beginning of Rock n' Roll.
@xGwKz Troll n. slang: someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response.
This why I'm so glad I never bought into the "cool" that I grew up with. Because the way i stay Cool, is by taking thing that were "once cool" but "now old" and making them interesting again. i.e. Manual Typewriters, I love them, sure Teens joke about if they could log onto their myspace; but after I explain why I use one...eureka!
Take that marketing! Independents will declare independence from you!
Wow, way to exploit Americas youth and perpetuate commercialism. There should be some regulation over these so called marketing groups. Meh, what should I expect from this barbaric, capitalist country? Down with commercialism! Thank you poster to opening my eyes to yet another disturbing truth about our society.
Isn't capitalism fucked up? I mean really. None of this crap about fulfilling "needs". Of the market satisfying demand. No, the giant corporations are at the stage where they MUST create the demand themselves to perpetually grow... by fucking people up, then selling the solution.
Nothing is created, the whole process is destructive, we are worse for it.
I love how they place little spies in youth circles. its all about profit, lets not care about letting teens express themselves lets can it and sell it back to them. Thats why punk rock sucks today.
@TiMMYSQUibbLES watch "century of the self" you're going to be shock, amazed, scared and pissed when its all done. Yeah it should be illegal at a minimum to target children and teenagers and we also need to demand better education across all of america for all kids. But even businesses now control many schools teaching no humanities and only what they want. This is a power struggle they are like a virus that continually mutates and adapts to survive so we have to adapt also through education.
@hectorh29 I have seen Century of self and the Happiness Machine. Very eye-opening stuff. Using the propaganda tactics that the nazzy's used to manipulate people into thinking how they would like you to about a product or a political idea. TV is bad for us all especially kids. I don't fully believe in conspiracy theorists like David Icke, Peter Joseph, and Alex Jones but they do promote critical thinking in areas that are really considered taboo. See Terrorstorm or Zeitgiest Addendum for example
thats not possible anymore when they control every medium, lean on politicians , and if they dont control you they certainly control others. Since one is a part of this culture sadly one cant fully escape it. No disrespect but im sure youre saying while your wearing some kind of name brand clothing.
@chojustin I wish it was but we all sometimes fall into the trap because we listen to the people we do "trust" like family, friends, authority figures who might be listening to them. We have been trained to follow and listen to "authority figures" since we were kids even if they're wrong.
the irony is that the "coolest things" are actually the lamest(jersey shore, pop music)

And I usually hate graphic novels.

think about how any of this could possibly be any other way. Please?
