SF4 succeeded because it was an answer to what I pointed out before... It was a sole SF game released in a market that had none. Any new SF game would have fared well, as demonstrated by SF fans who all admitted that they played 4 because it was "the new SF." Not because it was good.

VF, Tekken, KOF, DOA, MK, Guilty Gear and SS all continued to have iterations. We got one offs like SVC Chayous and NGBC (which they really should have continued but decided to have it compete with KOF XI because it's SNKP and they're suuuuper smart). We had 2003 signal the beginning of the Doujin Fighter craze. We had games like HNK and SBX. BlazBlue was born. And yes, the Tao Fengs and Kakuto Chojins. It was just Capcom not making the games.

Let me explain the misconception that "3rd strike almost killed SF" further

The only thing that really hurt Street Fighter was over-saturation. And not even in iterations. In SF-based franchises alone. The "crash" of fighting games people talk about in 2001 wasn't a crash. It was just Capcom saying "we're not focusing on Fighting Games anymore" because everything has to be a dumb initiative and people can't just read the air and make decisions when they need to be made.

Like me, I play started with SFIV, but I also branched out and started playing MVC3, Tekken 6, BBCS2, tried MK, but didn't like it and sold it, but I am not going to hate on it. and will be trying 3SOE, KoFXIII, Skullgirls, TTT2, SFxT, TxSF, SCV, and what ever else comes out.

Tiers unfortunately do matter. Yama is a renowned Twelve player, likely the best, yet has this kind of difficulty against a moderately skilled Akuma. Now if this was online (on a good connection) this wouldn't matter nearly as much, as most players would not know the Twelve match-up.

However against skilled players, lower tiers without alot of options tend to get overwhelmed. They only have a limited arsenal, and a good player can adjust to them quickly. Higher tier = more options sadly.

@manrightchea this is true sadly i play alex and im really good with him and beat people constantly online, my opponents are usually skilled at their characters but know nothing about alex which usually leads to my success, there is simply too many handicaps with twelve, being skilled with him and knowing your match up can only get u so far, parrying is always an option but no one is god like enough to parry EVERYTHING

X.N.D.L. is a pretty easy hit-confirm, plus it has two large stocks for EX N.D.L's or D.R.A.'s. That adds up over time! You also have to take match-up knowledge into account. A player dedicated to one or two specific characters likely has more knowledge of the mirror match-up than the Twelve player does.

It's just sort of a gimmicky Super Art that doesn't really doesn't contribute to 12's game!

Parries limits character diversity and the tier lists show it. Why isn't there a character like Sagat/Vega/Dhalsim in 3S? The only character that plays like Guile is bottom tier, and so is the only character that plays like Balrog. Everyone in the top tier shares these attributes: Good pokes and easily built supers. That's all you need in 3S.

Whereas in SSF4 there are a BUNCH of VERY viable characters who play VERY differently from each other.
