Ever thought we loose and why footballers are paid so much. They are paid so much to loose on purpose. Because if we didn't let them win then they wouldn't want to play.
Football mightve been Englands idea, but in the early state, it was played with around 20-50 people per team, you could use weapons (no blades) to hit your opponents and even knock them out, the pitch was usually around 2 miles, and if it wasn't for other countries pitching in and making their changes, football would be nothing like it is today!
@martinis9678 20 to 50 players on a team (with weapons) and a pitch two miles long? You're talking shit, boss. My mate Dave once took it through all 49 blokes and hit a screamer from 1½ miles into the top corner. Keeper had no chance, he only had 50 seconds to see it coming. *Red card* (half a mile walk off the pitch) brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "offside by a mile." ^_^
@drunkest100 you mean came to these shores? look it up. the chinese played a ball game EXTREMELY similar to football as far back as 3000 years ago. The reason football is often mistaken as originating in england was because it was in england 1863 that the football association was founded.
@martinis9678 historians also found football used to be played in medieval times with mile long pitches with the generally poor people would play it in their villages.
@martinis9678 it was a bit similar, yes. but it was not football. and besides, the original game of football was played by the celtics of these isles thousands of years ago, but it had eveolved since then.
if we didn't let them win now and then they wouldn't want to play ... look at baseball and basketball ... let us win now and then USA and we might want to play ...
Al Murray, funny guy. England football team, nearly as funny. It's great watching them do predictably poorly playing SHIT football every tournament they qualify for. They've been bloody awful in South Africa. C'mon Slovenia, do football a favour
@DalekSec1977 yeah. a dull 1-0 against the mighty Slovenia, running the clock down at the corner flag with 5 minutes to go. They showed me they ain't going far
@liebowski im not gonna bother arguing with someone whos team didnt even make it to the tournament, if you want to slag England off thats fine but that last game wasnt dull
@DalekSec1977 Yeah, fair enough, tho I do qualify for Spain under the parentage rule. I have no problem with English people, or players on the English team (except John Terry, what a cock). But when the English media (as always) set up an ordinary Ingerland team as world beaters, it's great to see them inevitably fail
@liebowski So are you trying to say that nearly every other national media in the world isn't doing the same for their own football teams? Give me a break.
I wish I'd seen this at the time, this is so well said

@Camberwell86 you're right, i was a bit wrong. not about the pitches, but about the number, and about the teams. Let me put some quotes in:
''Football in Tudor times was a very vicious game, with no teams and no rules, so it was not a game for gentlemen''
''it was a game of beastly fury and extreme violence''
and yes, weapons were allowed, nothing sharp or deadly though. So before you say I'm talking shit :)
It was so violent, King Henry VIII wanted to ban it.
martinis9678 11 months ago
@Camberwell86 and yeah, i guess it does put a whole new meaning to the phrase ;)
martinis9678 11 months ago
@martinis9678 Thats not correct, the essential laws of football were laid down long before the sport left these shores.
