  • sounds like hungarian minor. minor with #4,#7,

  • When I saw the title the first thing I thought was harmonic minor, and it pretty much is. This scale structure is not limited to middle-eastern culture, but you can hear it in all cultures in the Mediterranean. Seriously, Turk, Greek, Spanish, they all have influence of this particular scale. Not that it really matters. Music is music.

  • yes a hint is: go get something to eat from the PHRYG!

  • The only scale jews have weigh money

  • @adamh8525 yes because they are all lawyers and violinists, they weigh money all the time. Your argument makes no sense. You officially reaches a new level of stupidity, on the internet. That's saying something.

  • MELECHESH look it up

  • did u use calculator to record this?

  • Your cammera is SO HD!!!!

  • Now this is what i call HD

  • HD

  • I want to learn the acoustic lick in after the first verse in Megadeth's Holy Wars I can play the rest of the song but i can't seem to get that part. Maybe because it's not the usual rock metal type lick it sounds alot like a harmonic minor but i don't know.

  • knowing the name of the scale doesn't make the sound better, it's better not knowing what it's called but you know how to play it rather than you know what its called but can't play it

  • it sounds pretty arabic to me! and I grew up with that music.

    good job!

  • keep pressing 1 for the most epic smile ever

  • id still call it arabic because it sounds so for me too, so stop crying babys

  • A REAL arabian scale has 12 or 14 notes, which means there are half-tones between the intervals used in western scales. Which also means unless your guitar has frets between the frets, you won't be able to play it. There are many variations of the harmonic minor, spanish scale, aug or dim 5th, etc which have a certain middle eastern or indian sound. To play this all you have to do is flat or sharp a couple of key points in any major or pentatonic, and presto!

  • JIHAD!!!

  • 83,301 HITS!! THIS IS JUNK!!!

  • this is poop!!! and i am mexican me la pelas

  • fuck you!!!

  • I'd like to see an electric oud.

  • E Phrygian. Nice playing.

  • dude play the tetris them song now

  • It's an E major Arpeggio Pentadrome.

  • @benito725

oh, sorry didn't mean to friend

i was really just not sure about it

  • watch?v=k5FZu0T6hLE

  • it sounds arabic thats why they call it arabic scale fuck!!!!

  • arabian and spain scales are the best

  • uhm just basically like phrygian dominant, right?

  • @ConnerMatteBL Phrygian dominant, harmonic minor, virtually the same stuff.

  • People label shit all the time, why cant he??

  • Worse quality, please.

  • they just hear arabian scale they lose their mind. 5/5 btw

  • thats that?

  • great comment!

  • idiots, this is not Arabic or Jewish, I learned this scale in Rock School book grade 5 technical exercises.

There is something called Arabic scale but its much harder than that. Arabic scale is on Grade 8 rock school book at technical exercises, but I dare anyone to play, its the hardest thing ever.

And the "Jewish" scale does not exist.

  • @Nugetiful no scale is hard to play and there are 3 types of jewish scales

  • somebody plzzzz say "fuuuuuuuuck"

  • Arabic scale lmao its the harmonic minor

  • Harmonic DUMB SHIT!!!!!!!!

  • its the fuckin harmonic minor played in a linear fashion. not that hard.

  • yeh thats not the jewish scale, thats E phrygian scale, can see that a mile off.

  • @jekkareighner fukin retart, since when are arabs jewish? dont ever insult arabs by calling them jewish u fukin cunt

and it was a fukin good scale that sounded arab, lets u try and pull that off assface!!

  • @kill5witchengage3 erm phrygian doesnt mean its arabic, its a mode.....chill out man, all phrygian is, is E to E white notes on a piano when in C major or on a guitar its flattening the 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th, check out the theory dude, and again, chill :) phrygian always sounds good in the right context so i aint dissin an plus it was a year ago i posted that :S

  • no its the jews scale the 5th of harmonic minor

  • If this was an Arabic scale, it would be octotonic, which it is not.

  • actually true Arabic scales require the use of quarter tones which you would have to defret your guitar (or be an expert at bending to exact pitches) to play

  • Or you could bend a note slightly, like a blue note.

  • If you want arabic, you need semi-tones.

  • aug 2nds

  • That's "Arabic"? That just sounds like a minor scale with a major third to me!

  • or a major 7th! hahaaaa ha.

  • Actually, he's using a minor 2nd, minor seventh, and indeed, a major 3rd. Haaahhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  • this is a double harmonic minor scale

    2 octaves???

  • Sounds rather like the opening to La Villa Strangiato...

  • Comment removed

  • harmonic minor 5th mode?

  • this is phrygian dominant

  • The original scale in E standard would be Phrygian Dominant Natural 3rd, lol =]

I learnt that the other day haha

I use it ALL THE TIME haha

check my vids, my song "apocalypse" uses it, aha =]

As does most of my music hehe

  • lol haha haha aha hehe...

  • LOL!

  • porqueria!...

  • where do u get tabs or these kind of scales???? can anyone tell me plz

  • reading music XD

  • muahaha!!! lamb of god scale!

  • the arabic scale (sometimes referred as the jewish scale because they sound very similar) is a double harmonic major scale

  • Isn't This harmonic minor scale.??????

  • ya it is harmonic minor, and it's used in metal a lot.

  • its called a harmonic minor scale, not an "arabic" scale

  • actually there is a scale named arabic..

  • yer but it aint this one cock head

  • its a pentatonic though

  • Actually cockhead, it is the Arabic scale/double harmonic scale, not the minor harmonic

  • So for a moron like me, what scale degrees are we talking?

  • lol you have:

    1st, b2nd, maj3rd, 4th, 5th, min6th, maj7th; OR

    In E: open, 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12.

So it's starts off like the Phrygian maj3rd mode, then ends like the parent harmonic minor mode. There's the two 'gaps' i.e. augmented spaces of 3 frets (harmonics), and a little chromatic part around the root. Hope that helps :)

  • @Lukeyboi14 WHO GIVES A DAMN WHAT ITS CALLED he has a talent and ur bitching about what its called

  • @beastsniper82 its actually a phrygian, but people dont know wtf is what.

and no, i wouldnt call that talent

  • @Lukeyboi14 i wish all these dickheads would learn that....

  • @spike4379 ive got all these likes on my comment, but im wrong. Its a phrygian scale, definantly not harmonic minor. looks like no-one knows their shit

  • @Lukeyboi14 no its harmonic minor...... phrygian dom is the 5th degree of the harmonic minor. now sit down

  • that from a yngwie malmsteen song

  • sounds like something from Rainbow :D

  • I actually thought it was a jew scale at first.

  • jewish scale and arabic scale sound very similar.

  • i knew it!

  • whats the name of the scale? and sick stuff lol

  • ur fone sucks, lol

  • thats some pretty fuckin sick shit u rock

  • se parece a la cancion de yngwie malmsteen "trilogy"

  • wow i'm sorry if i've insulted all you people by calling it an arabic scale instead of this "harmonic minor" thing you're all banging on about. but the only problem is.... i don't really care what it's called, y'know? it's just a shitty little video. get over it.

  • Dont worry about it..some people are just a-wads.. Good job man..

  • Yeah man...fuck the posers off...music is music...fuck off the names...

  • looks good! giv 'er!

  • thing is, it's very annoying that all these scales are being renamed so there are something like 6 different scales reffered to as arabic just because it sounds stereotypically middle eastern. using the actual names (easiest to figure out by the fact that the name isn't used to describe anything else such as ionian or double harmonic) also makes you sound smarter.

  • @jonathaneve arabic scale works for me its just a name same as phyrigian scale is classed as he spanish / gypsy scale

  • @jonathaneve the thing is the arabic scale is a real thing, also called the double harmonic minor, and I was looking for a video of it. This is the plain harmonic minor, which is different. why not call it a major scale, or the chromatic scale or the phygrian mode? I mean they are just different scales right.

  • @jonathaneve you people.....?? woah there, are you talking about us middle easterns. JK nice video

  • @jonathaneve its actually a phrygian. i was wrong, and now so are you.

    give up

  • @jonathaneve some people just suck. anyways, sounded kinda Arabic to me so fuck em.

  • your such an asshole lol

  • whoa dude mad shit

  • you mean harmonic minor? not arabic... lol

  • sounded like some arpeggio

  • nigga this is harmonic minor not arabian.....ass

  • the harmonic minor scale dose sound middle eastern though it was used in many classical peices

  • its called "phrygian" fuckers

  • khbkh sayed shit: arabic scale is based on the 5th degree of the hungarian mode.

I know some internet site about that, but only in french, and for this type of things, books are really better...

I know that there are chiite arab, and jews and catholics, i lived in egypt and in lebanon, the religions of the arabs are really complicated, i just was resuming

    xcuse my english!

  • Sounds like harmonic minor to me.

  • It is harmonic minor. the arabic scale or phrygian dominant comes from the sixth mode of the harmonic scale.

  • lol 5th mode. im an idiot

  • too short and inaudible. it could've been cool. but...

  • lol man all u did was go up and down the scale but i guess that was the title of the vid ey?

  • We call this "hicaz" in Turkey.

Turkish, Arabic, Persian .. whatever it is ... Don't argue, just play/listen it and enjoy. don't war, make music ;)

  • boobs.

  • its not arabic, its called "Chehar Gah" and its originally a persian scale.

  • persian, arabic, what's the difference? sounds the same as any other eastern scale to me.

  • sounds like ignorance to me

  • I'm guessing your ear isn't musically developped if you don't know the difference between different scales.

  • Similar to harmonic minor.

  • "persian, arabic, what's the difference? sounds the same as any other eastern scale to me." yea...true ignorance.

  • persians speak persian and are chiite, arabs speak arab and are sunnite...

  • Please pardon my being obligated to correct you but even though the majority of arabs are sunni theres a very significant part thats shiite as well as another (perhaps less common)part: Christian. Christian arabs originate from Lebanon, Jordan,Syria,Palestinian territories,Egypt and a few more. A very very small minority is the Arab Jews. Now my knowledge of music theory is very limited, can someone please give me a link to a website that may help me identify the difference pointed out by khbgkh?

  • you suck !!

  • more angry people! lol

  • out of tune?

  • wow! i posted this video ages ago and pretty much forgot about it... i come back a few months later and it's got 7,996 hits!! and big thanks to all you guys for commenting!! although both twooos and Rocker8822 seem to have serious anger issues. Chill out guys, stop arguing and just relax!

  • It's not an arabic scale it is actualli the harmonic minor, wich was first discovered in europe witch resembeled the sounds heard from the middle east.

  • Ok did you say "played metal"?!?!!

  • can you send me the tabs for that plz

  • why are you guys always asking for fuckin tabs!! WORK IT OUT YOURSELF. Its a harmonic minor scale, his username kinda gives it away dosnt it?!

  • first of all you are wrong, second of all your a fucking idiot, third of all how do people work out a scale out of mid air? As the title says this is the arabic scale NOT the harmonic minor.

  • you are wrong. it is the harmonic minor. the Arabic, or Phrygian Dominant(a more fitting name), is the sixth mode of the harmonic minor scale and is used for its flat second while still having a slightly major tonality. let me say it again, you are wrong

  • who's wrong?

  • the guy i replied to. the commenting system on youtube is so fucked up so when you reply to someone else's comment it puts yours on top, even though it should go right underneath what you replied to

  • Yeah, I know man. I wonder why it does that sometimes. Then other times the comments show up where they belong. But this is the harmonic minor, yeah?

  • yes, it is a harmonic minor starting on the 5th note of the minor

  • The Arabic scale isn't the same as the harmonic minor or any of it's modes. It's the double harmonic minor. Completely different scale.

  • okay i was just going by what i heard. so youre playing the scale with the #4 and #7. Well I think, if i can remember my comment, that my point is not to use arabic scale as a name because that has been used to describe harmonic minor, double harmonic minor, and also the dominant mode of the harmonic minor, or the phrygian #3

  • I've only ever heard the Arabic scale as describing the double harmonic, but yeah you are right, refrain from calling things 'Arabic' or 'Arabian' etc they are just childish and confusing. The Phrygian dominant you describe is also called the Jewish scale. Completely unhelpful!

  • Its all in the chords that are behind the notes

  • not bad, sounds arabic

  • dude it says its arabic, ofcourse it will sound arabic.what are you ,american ?
