Good idea. Probably easier to do as a real business, there's profit to be made there, especially with the new checked baggage fees, having a UPS station at the airport is just a logical next step (your market is larger than the TSA).
sweet idea, and when they require me to show the inside of my asshole, by law, then we'll have to follow THOSE laws too! Awesome! I love laws! (you fail)
I always forget about my Victorinox "Swiss Army Card" which is always in my wallet behind my ID. I've had to mail it to myself or my destination twice and I've been able to get it "checked" with my luggage once before. It's ridiculous. Let me carry my 9mm on the plane and I'll give them my "or it's my life too" guarantee that the plane won't get hijacked.
I don't see how they could stop you from doing this. I could see you having to do this as a regular business, and having to get any necessary permits or licenses, etc. You would also have to rent a space from the airport if you are doing this IN the airport. But I don't see why you couldn't rent a space, offer to mail anything banned to wherever the person wanted it mailed to, give them a receipt for it, charge $10 - 20 or so, and mail it for them. Then email them a tracking number.
I am pissed that I recently forgot I had a 4 oz bottle of VERY expensive shampoo and the asses at TSA took it away. GRRRR...that is just wrong. I mean...good money down the tubes. If terrorist REALLY want to redo 911 they will find ways. They don't need to be taking shampoos away. so ridiculous.
This is why we need to boycott flying. I have not flown ever since the liquids ban went into effect. I do not plan to fly until they start using the technology that ALREADY EXISTS to scan your liquids to make sure they are safe, then let you take them on board with you. If everyone else would join this boycott of the airline industry, this would end quick-fast-in-a-hurry! I seriously have not flown since the liquid ban and will not do so again till it's over.
While you do have a point there, if the airlines are hurt badly enough by a consumer boycott over insane and stupid TSA rules, the government would be FORCED to bend to the will of the people - letting us bring our harmless bottled water, suntan lotion, hair conditioner, etc. on planes. If we boycotted air travel over these stupid rules, the airline industry would BEG TSA to drop the regulations. Bush would make a futile TV plea for people to drop the boycott. TSA needs a reality check.
I imagine the Banned Item Return Service sector would start heavily lobbying policy makers to ban more and more items, which would lead to public outcry for regulation of the BIRS, which would lead to a severe breakdown of BIRS profitability, which would lead to a government bailout, which would lead to a giant BIRS monopoly, partly or wholly owned by our lovable government...
No, I went through last week at JFK and asked specifically if it could be mailed. They took my unopened hair gel in bag with receipt and a keychain knife. The knife got through no problem the way through though ;)
Also funny the bag I took is what I bring to the gun range and had lots of spent gun powder in it and got through with two bullet casings I hadn't noticed.
Do the Feds actually sell the property confiscated from people at airports and keep the money made from those sales!?
It seems to me that the Feds should not be able to profit from property they unjustly confiscate from travelers. If the Feds do sell these items then they should sent the proceeds of such sales to the owners of the confiscated property.
And the spin is.. (in case government isn't initially impressed)
is that it helps the Federal Postal Service make money, and in the rare case that the Post Office cannot carry an item, perhaps it can go by UPS or FED EX...

Bigdstock...unfortunately as an international business owner..I have no choice.

Unfortunately, boycotting flying will not hurt the TSA; it will only hurt the airlines.

I want to do this at gun buybacks.
"$50 Target gift cards inside. $100 cash right here."

Awesome idea. Clearly you are a true entrepreneur.
Your cost per gun: $100
Selling price in NH: at least $150
Markup: sweet
Foiling the gun-grabbers: priceless!

watcher..exactly. With this damn government...there is no winning unless you get a President that actually cares about people and not his pocket.

I thought the TSA was already required to offer shipping of banned items back to the owner, for the price of postage.
Did they change this policy?

Great idea. Maybe "mailing service" would be a better name, though.
