I remember seeing one of these in a shop I think in El Monte, or Alhambra. I'm sure it was on Valley Blvd. They had a couple of the Rickman bikes with different motors. they had a display window in front. I was still too young for one of these, but I use to lick my chops at the Triumphs. They may have had one with a Sachs engine, and a zundapp later. I ended up getting a Taco 44 (mini bike). Not there, it was used. No money then! Not much now, either!
great video and I'd love one of these, plus i'd race it. All you keypad racers out there....the reason he isn't flipping racing round like a maniac on it is because ITS A VIDEO TO SHOW OFF THE BIKE IN DETAIL, if he was wizzing around that field at over 80 it would be a blurr and a waste of an advert...
I remember reading a story about the original in either Cycle Magazine or Popular Mechanics back in the 60's. I believe the original weighed about 300 or 350 pounds. It must have flown. We miss you Steve.
LOve it. Grate job, excellent recreation of a bike that really means a lot to folks who were there in 'the day' - the comments from some of these negative, jealous wannabes are pathetic. I'd like to see one of them post a vid of their own that shows what they can do. Check my bikes out then show what you got - or shut up. Hat's off to this gentleman - Fantastic bike, thanks for showing it to us. Sell a bunch!
this bike has been filling me with lust sinec i first saw the advert for it one of the classic bike mags. Ah, McQueen... Back when being american meant somethimg....
Naff in the extreme McQueens bike of choice was always the Husky. And that dreadful tank and seat unit get no better with age. £12.500 are people mad. If you want to see a great retro desert racer see the elsinoreracer
i wouldn't be surprised if all these bikes were sold before they left the workshop, they have such a following. therefore the rider could have been asked to take it easier than normal as it is actually someones pre-ordered machine. as its a limited run they're extremely valuable. pound for pound, probably as valuable as a desmosedici ducati. well,,,,almost!!!! lol!!!
The only thing I don't like is the way those pipes were routed. They could have gone a lot lower. Not lower in the Buell sense, where they tuck it under to heat up the rear tire, but but farther from the leg. Even with the little curving in, that baby is just asking for some burns.
Buell's kick it out sideways away from the tire stock (and the purpose is for weight distribution) you must have seen a custom one with a poor design heh
Yes I figured that much about the weight distribution, which is a good idea by Buell. You're right the one I saw must have been missing the tip or bent and it was sending all that hot air right at the tire.
I still think the pipes on this one are a tad high to avoid melts and burns, but I like it tho.
omg i want one!!!!

I absolutely love how it sounds. It reminds me of the bikes in old war movies. I bet it's a blast to ride.

As usual, the MCN cameraman sucks.
Hey camera guy, we want to see the bike, not the rider and definitely not the freaking clouds!
