Julian there are oil reserves all up and down this valley, but oil tends to pool where there is pressure and anticlines. There's plenty of oil in the entire basin, but it will be on a formation by formation basis and only because of demand. Check out some information on "Lost Hills" to give you an idea. Enjoy :)
I find it interesting how there are oil reserves only in the southern San Joaquin Valley and not farther north in the Sacramento Valley. I think they go as far north as Coalinga
