to all those saying kang sounds like trey...

I wholeheartedly disagree. Both are great players of their instrument (kang is probably THE best at 5 string mando) but honestly they have styles that are completely different. Trey is a pentatonic innovator (thats obviously not all he does but his use of the scale is notable) and Kang takes much more influence from Bluegrass lines.

Trey relies heavily on arpeggois and the use of different modes while kang plays a little more scalular than Trey while still utilizing other tools. Neither rely on the pentatonic scale to much during their jams.

saw them a couple times in the late 90s and it was great. they did a midwest college tour in 1999 where they jammed shit out. it was musically great (i was on strong acid) and even got scary, which i dig. i kept seeing them and they went downhill in my opinion. by early 2000s they just covered studio shit, not much jams, and were predictable at best.

The Cheese are great musically, but it's about more than that, it's about the vibe and the energy and the money they put back into the live show production that sets them apart from all the other bands these days. They care about their fans experience and it shows. Cheese are #1 in my book. The Grateful Dead were number one until they lost Jerry, now Cheese are # 1 in my book. They are the closest thing I've ever seen, musically, to a Dead show.

SCI has some pretty weak stuff and some good stuff. Songs/Lyrics by Nershi are their best. Kyle's songs generally suck. Their live performance ranges from monotonous and boring to annoying to fun and danceable. They are nowhere near the level of the Grateful Dead. Don't kid yourself.

Look, I don't think he ALWAYS sounds like Trey. I just think it's undeniable that when they go into a 'rock' jam, he gets his inspirado from Trey. It's SO obvious. I have seen SCI like 12 times, and Phish over 75. I'm mostly speaking of the TONE of his instrument, and less of the notes he chooses (although he gets alot of his phrasing from Trey as well.

When they do more acoustic sounding music it's less obvious.
