Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.
Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.
Wait a minute...boys ARE boys...and girls ARE joys...
You and me...we think of them as more than toys. Uh huh.
I still like the lyrics to Higgly Dy Piggly Dy best. But that's the best song ever written. Either that or any selected song ever written by the Monks.
IT'S HERE EVERYBODY! THE DVD HAS BEEN RELEASED! I just ordered mine two days ago....I CANNOT WAIT! I can't wait to show family and friends what I expierenced in The Red Cat Theater in L.A. back on July 1, 2006. The sad thing for me will be seeing and hearing Dave talk. I know I'm gonna be crying! Dave was such a good guy, full of love for his fans! He embraced me like I was his grandson or something when he met me. Thank you for your contribution to rock and roll Dave! Rock that banjo in heaven!
congratulations. today this video was selected by the NYC Punk Rock Evolution Foundation. way ahead of their time. The Fall must have listened to the Monks.
As it should be. Complication was so effin' punk. And yes, Mark E Smith is a Monks fan. The Fall have performed Monks covers live on several occasions, and I believe they contributed to the Monks cover album.
It's such a shame Polydor here in America passed on releasing this album. Unfortunately, America would've probally been just like "oh look at that, isn't that cute!" instead of knowing The Monks meant every word of what they sang!
Yes, beatbands1966, those are real tonsures on their heads! Like I said it's a shame they didn't get to tour the U.S. but audiences probally would've taken them serious anyways. Maybe they could've played with The Fugs! LOL. The Monks were too far ahead of their time with their form of expression. It would've been cool if they had reformed in 1977 or so and tried to fit into the punk/new wave genre. The Flamin' Groovies found acceptance with that audience and they were a hippie band!
I just did. Los Saicos are pretty good. I like The Monks more though, way more. Los Saicos sound like they're trying to be a Peruvian version of The Trashmen.
I don't agree. los saicos had a counterculture lyric and the voice rough and the drum as a hammer were trying to express wht kind of social demolition they wanted. and remember they launched this record 1964 so they did the song 1963 before the trashmen and their funny surfin' bird. not comparison in between them. Los Saicos - demolicion when punk music started
I checked it out, it's awesome! However it isn't punk. The way I see it The Ramones and The Sex Pistols were the first punk bands, Ramones recorded first but Sex Pistols started the whole movement. I would myself put it in the Garage Beat category, I am sure a lot of people would disagree with that tho.
Really? In the 60s era, 'punk' term was used by kids or youths from that era?!? The form of rock n roll that came to be identified as 'punk' cannot directly trace it's roots to 60s rock n roll. 'Punk' rock assumes that one doesn't need to know how to play musical instrument. That is a lie.
And stylistically, melodically and aesthetically, the 'punk' rock style has only the external common ancestry of guitars and drums and nothing beyond that to link up with 60s style of rock 'n roll. Punk rock is substandard fare.
you must not have heard that many punk bands... there is definitely some commonality with some groups, not just in spirit but in terms of copping certain riffs and speeding them up/distorting them more. i wouldn't say "punk" is monolithic or substandard, but to each his own.
"In the 60s era, 'punk' term was used by kids or youths from that era?!?" the term "punk rock" was originally attributed to 60's garage, early source is the Nuggets Compilation in 72. Its a long argument that goes nowhere. Punk..Garage..Metal..Frat..are variations of Rock, all serves the same purpose. Rock has always been anti-establishment. 70's Punk was just another sonic direction, but still rock n roll.
Compare The Ramones to the Pistols, both "Punk" yet sound so different from each other, same comparison can be made with Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard and their brand of rock n roll that sounded nothing alike.
I hear it's in the works! Let's hope the DVD is released soon. Play Loud! Productions had to finish up work on a new project so the release of the DVD got pushed back. Let's hope we don't have to wait too much longer, but NOTHING will take the place of seeing it in the Red Cat Theater in L.A.! The sound of The Monks comming through that incredible sound system was out of this world. A highlight of my life until the day I die!
THIS JUST IN!!!! The Monks documentary will be released on DVD on Feb. 27th, 2009 but will be available at Play Loud! Productions online store on Jan. 10th, 2009! The DVD will contain 80 minutes worth of bonus footage WHICH WILL INCLUDE all of the Beat Club performances IN THEIR ENTIRETY! It's gonna be MONK TIME all over again in '09 folks!

The "Anti-Beatles" before it was cool to be a non-conformist. Anti-war before it was popular. Punk before anyone knew the word.

Are you talking about the 60's so called 'punk' or the punk scene from the 70s and 80s?...
KoivuTheHab 2 years ago

Yes thats right, who are you asking these questions...?
KoivuTheHab 2 years ago
Matthatter, I think. But it applies to anyone who continues to associate 'punk' rock with 60s garage music.
Khultan 2 years ago
Alright. Yeah a lot of people find it hard to understand that punk started in the 70s and not the 60s.
