Le val d'amour is a brothel: "Au Val d'Amour, Les femmes d'amour, Vous font l'amour, Pour quelques sous" Try to trade this, and if you're not convinced, trade this; "Que quelques sous, Pour faire l'amour, Aux femmes d'amour, Du Val d'Amour".
I just got finished watching the Italian version of this song... singing's great, acting's pretty good, but there's something they did differently that I seriously have a problem with. When Esmeralda fights off Quasi, she runs off and takes refuge in GRINGOIRE'S arms, instead of running into Phoebus. This is bad because in the book, one of the main reasons Esmeralda wouldn't love Gringoire is because he was there when Quasi attacked and he didn't have the guts to save her.
@RacbecSkywalker maybe you should stick to modern novels... it seems you don't get the feeling and you obviously you don't understand that moral rules have no relevance in the magic world of art, that's why it's art: you escape reality, IT'S A STORY, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!
Don't tell me I don't understand, okay? everyone's telling I don't understand when I do. Just 'cause I crack a stupid joke doesn't mean I can't understand this. I love this book and this musical. Heck, I've even watched the Disney version! I'll just delete the comment since everyone thinks i'm a jerk...

I agree. With "Dechire" they made it seem as if he feels a bit guilty about dating two women, but in the book he's... cold about it, he simply wants to satisfy his lust AND to marry the "good" girl. (I always felt pity for tha book Fleur-de-Lys)
@catgirl1234 A cabaret is not the same as a brothel. Cabaret is a form of entertainment featuring comedy, song and dance. What distinguishes it is that it is held at a nightclub or restaurant, with audience members sitting at tables and a master of ceremonies directing the show. There may be prostitutes at a cabaret, but that is not its sole purpose.
@catgirl1234 Don't love him. He's lovable in the Disney version. He's a major douche everywhere else. Love Kevin Kline Phoebus. Not Victor Hugo Phoebus.
@33marionl Le val d'amour may be called a cabaret, but it's very much a brothel. The lyrics even say something about the girls who make love for a few coins. But even if you accept a date in a "cabaret" you are probably not that innocent.
well i just think the whole thing is live because it is to hard to pre-record an exstatic audience like that....Ok i conced maybe the orchstra or pre-recorded but the audience it's clear their live (epsically if you have the 2 CD soundtrack) Their even more exstatic on that and it would be impossible to pre-record such excitmeant
As for the vyper thing I'm sticking to that I mean Esméralda is just the limet she gives water to Quaismodo and then she ignores him
Frollo or Quasimmodo i think she had an idea Frollo was in love with her (the attmpted rape and the poethic confession in the prison) but if you where refering to Quasimodo then your right she never knew even though he did hint it to her several times espcially in the scenes in the cathedral like when he gives her the crystal vase and the dead flower and when he tells her to listen to him because he has something to say to her and then the flees upset
well in part of the novel Frollo pictures what it would be like if he marraied Esméralda and how he would be happy walking with her along the pramande or something I think he says that so he might have truely loved her and besides at least his "lust" was lust mistaken for love he thought he loved her while Phoebus knew he didn't love her and yet took advantage of her and enjoyed lusting after her
also she knew she was killing Frollo inside by talking on and on about Phoebus in front
of him as Hugo says "it's remarkable that he (Frollo) didn't seirously think of suicide" ok that's a different part of the novel but she is still killing him and how she treets Quasimodo when he try's to get Phoebus for her is horrible (she's also murdering him inside)
Pheobua seems a idiot to me! How can she ever choice to Frollo? Ok he was a priest and what? Luttero was it two he´s out and founder a new religion! Frollo could just out! He would do that for her!
He would do anything for her,she was stupid!!!Phoebus was stupid also.Girl gaves him heart and he ...This story could have happy ending...,but she was blind. Why no one open her eyes???
No, don't think He does. If I remember correctly, Priest Frollo commands Quasimodo to capture Esmerelda dor some reason. When Quais Is caught Frollo jets leaving quasi to take the heat. Well this all from my memory of the book. I'm not sure if it's right. Oh, and did you hear the song 'Belle' from this play? IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!! Listen to it if you haven't heard!!!
Esmeralda is one of my least favorite characters, at least in the book. the way she treats Frollo when he opens his soul to her... AAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHH! Wants to make me yell. *sigh* I wish they'd do something like that here. :(
He commands Quasimodo to capture her, thats right. But he try to rape her.She was nearly hanged, but Quasimodo save her.Frollo didn't know that. One night Frollo came to her room ,and he try to rape her.Quasimodo hear her screaming and save her.Frollo almoust kill him for that

Frollo was never truly in love with Esmeralda, he may have found her initially beautiful - but that attraction became an obsession and lustful ideal.
EmilyGreene1984 3 years ago 10
