  • One of the best solos I have ever heard. Never heard of this guy until recently and he's up there with Steve Hackett, Jeff, Eric. Pete etc... Thanks for posting.

  • One of the best guitar players ever. He has a website - Bill Nelson Dreamsville - if you want to talk to him.

  • grand

  • Bill Nelson is a genius.

  • Hip Hip Hooriando....love it!

  • Be-Bop Deluxe supporting Cockney Rebel In 74/75 at/in Bracknell Sports? Centre.

    Both were awesome/ great

  • pure genius, arguing about who is better between Hendrix and Bill Nelson is comepletely assinine,I think they would have liked each other,

    theres room for everybody-

  • Bill Nelson is one the the all-time best rock-and- roll guitarist in the world. And if you don't believe me, just keep listening to his guitar genius.

  • I saw them on the same tour (I think) at the Academy of Music. It was the last night of their tour and Bill went nuts with off the cuff stuff. You could see the band watching him like hawks to see what was going to happen next. Excellent show. One of the best Rock bands ever.

  • A totaly amazing band for it's time, ahead of many major artists currently on market today.Still has a place in my heart and collection.

  • A great band this was

  • He has incorporated several guitar riffs from different be bop deluxe songs into his solo....very clever

  • Premiership guitarist - Bill is a genuine player, not a technician.

  • I still remember sitting at two concerts with Mary watching these guys play incredible music. It's a shame both of them didn't last.

  • I love Bill Nelson--he was an amazing musician and lyricist. Even as the years have passed--no one is better than Mr, Nelson

Wish he'd learn from Beck and just keep doing it!

Bill Nelson helped inspire me as a kid who had nothing original to offer on guitar--I was able to put it all together into something more musical,.

  • Bill Nelson is an amazing guitaraist. Thanks for posting!!!

  • @Timbarwell - You just went full retard,....Dude you never go full retard!...ever!

  • Better than Hendrix? That's a bit of stretch.

  • @PeterMayer Let's not be nostalgic about Hendrix' playing. A great performer and an icon of blues rock. However, he doesn't come close to BN.

  • @popgrubbs I don't like making comparisons, but look who made much more of an impact on EVRYONE. I like Bill, but he really doesn't come close.

  • @PeterMayer If you're measuring impact, then you are certainly right. But, we weren't posting about impact. You are correct, comparisons are a bit of a waste of time. Leaving sentiment aside, I'll take Bill's clean technical excellence and sonorus emotion to Jimmy's visceral and dynamic sound, for my preference.

  • @popgrubbs lol yer arse

  • Is there a version of "Adventures in Yorkshire Landscape" from this broadcast? This show sounds really hot and the other live versions I've found of AIYL pale in comparison to the one on Live! In The Air Age. Thnx for posting.

  • I think Be Bop Deluxe was or is in a class all by itself.

Nelson's guitar works are truly awesome.

Love him since I first heard him in early 70's.

The Be Bop sound was really unusualy tremendous.

    That's only my opinion.

  • I second that Brother..for sure!!

  • I saw Be Bop Deluxe, an opening band for Rush, an opening band for Ted Nugent , at Winterland San Francisco 1976. What a ticket , what a show!!

  • At @daddygum

You are very lucky !!! You saw 3 great bands at their best years ever !!!

  • I saw BBD and Supertramp at the Chicago Stadium in '77, I think. Memory shortage in those years!

  • Wow! I used to take music computer lesson from Roger Hodgson's neighbor and we would go see Roger once a week just fiddle with his music. Crazy Genious he was

  • Hey guys - 'Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape' has to be my FAVE solo of all time.

Remember a great finish to the gig - Bill laid his 335 up against his amp and walked offto howling feedback. Came back on to rapturous applause and put is his foot on the neck to gently lean in some tone drop - who needs a locking trem???

Maybe I can get round to laying the track down to some images and uploading here?

Be Bop Deluxe rock - keepthe faith!

  • wish bill would tour some old be bop songs again

  • This version was recorded at the Old Calderone Concert Hall in Hempstead, Long Island, NY. It was broadcast on WLIR radio of which I happen to have my own recording. I was 16 years old at the time when I attended this concert (now 48). I would play the licks over & over again as I Bill was my mentor. You can actually hear my whistles on the recording when he brings it down. Those were the days....

  • Smiles!

  • >> the Old Calderone Concert Hall in Hempstead, Long Island, . . Those were the days....

Don't forget the Uniondale Mini Cinema . .

Midnight showings of Yessongs, Eraserhead, etc . . .

Yes, those were the days, . . drinking beers in the car and not worrying about it.

You could get anyway with murder back then compared to today, hehehe.

    I'm 49 too.

  • It's the coda section from Blazing Apostles that was only a feature of the live version. Get "Tramcar to Tomorrow" or "Live at the BBC" and you'll hear it. Remember it from Their Manchester show 1976 - god that's over 30 years ago!!!

  • I bet I was there. I never missed Bill n the boys in Manchester.

  • I was there too. was it '76 or '77 when they had all the equipment problems, including the infamous plastic tube which didnt rise trapping Charlie which was immortalised in Spinal Tap?

  • great stuff

  • Hi - great item. Any idea what this piece of music is, though? I don't recognise it from any Bebop albums. Dave

  • Great clip, thanks for posting it.

Bill's great and so were the band.

  • Bill is one of the greats but does not get the recognition he deserves. Top Man...Awesome stuff!
