  • Had this years ago and lost it. Nice to hear again. and now i convert to mp3. aww technology! thanx

  • Arguably one of the best clash songs ever written and one of the best EPs to ever grace all others

  • May I recommend the book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • Clash songs like this make me want to drink a lot of beer.

  • I thought loads of people had copies of this single sinse they did make tens of thousands of them. I've still got mine. Anyone ever read through all of the gobbledegook on the pink inner sleeve?

  • I have this EP on 7 inch. I'd go so far as to say it's the best EP ever. Groovy Times is so nice, and the reggae bit at the end of this is just trancendent.

  • @DannyWhitten so do I i thought I had the only one

  • in the 70s me and my brother used to fight over the Clash or The Jam, i used to go for The Jam but this song is fucking great, sorry bruv, you had a point.

  • man

  • This is one of my all time favorites by the only band that matters. I had the single that was inside the US release of their first album. Although chronologically it bridges the gap between "Give 'em Enough Rope" (with Stay Free) and the greatest pop album in history, "London Calling" Bonus question: Name the tune on the other side of the single!!!!

  • Side one

1."I Fought the Law" (Sonny Curtis) — (2:40)

    2."Groovy Times" — (3:25)

    Side two

    3."Gates of the West" — (3:25)

    4."Capital Radio" — (4:05)

5."The Cost of Living Advert" (only on original vinyl and Japanese version of the singles box set)

  • It was a four track ep, side one, I think, was I fought the law as the first track and capital radio the second one, side two was gates of the west and groovy times. I may be wrong on the order but the tracks are right, do I get bonus points? :-)

  • Dealyplaza - Wrong 'Em Boyo is a cover of Wrong 'Em Boyo by The Rulers. Stagger Lee is a different song and only the first two lines are from the traditional version

  • even though it went badly for them in a relatively short period of time, you can imagine how it must have felt to come from nowhere & conquer america. that's rock 'n roll!

  • East side Jimmy and South side Sue, both said they needed something new

  • This song always chokes me up. Beautiful. :')

  • Eastside Jimmy and Southside Sue! 1979!!

  • Takes me back to 1982."Oh shit put it down. Here comes your Dad"

  • i love this song

  • This song has always got to me. Big lump in my throat. I agree with you 'Cut The Crap' really was crap and you are right it was NOT The Clash...Just Joe and some non entities

  • @balaxuxu Those non entities did brilliant live! I'd just blame Bernie Rhodes if I were you.

  • Top tune!

  • cut the crap is awful and so is combat rock in parts. but in my opinion cut the crap isn't even the clash.

  • can anybody name me a bad clash tune? preaching to the converted, i know - but really, a bad one? no, didn't think so. okay, maybe 'should i stay' but that's only bad in comparison to all the others...

  • have you ever really listned to london calling?...it got voted the best LP of the year in the usa in 1980.......

  • I can't argue with you on Wrong Em, but Train in Vain and the Card Cheat are great songs-

Just because you don't like it don't mean it is bad.

In the words of Bob Dylan:

"Don't criticise what you can't understand."

  • Wrong em' Boyo is a cover of Stagger Lee and it's great. The Card Cheat is EPIC brilliance, every instrument is double tracked to give it that big sound, so good. Train in Vain as a bonus is pure genius.

  • Train in Vain = beautiful song.

  • this.. isnt train in vain.

  • Yeah, wtf r u talking about. :|

  • @Markko144 maybe it's Mick's voice that annoys, but still i dont understand how you can dislike any of those songs Train in vain is probably my favorite clash song.

  • yeah but i think their self titled album is still better.

  • @pvw1966 pretty much everything on cut the crap other than this is england is pretty unmemorable but that hardly even qualifies as a clash album

  • @sharkmen007 Cut the Crap IS NOT a Clash album.

  • @JSWhite92 The cover sais it is, lol

  • fuckin top tune by a top band !!!!!! r i p joe strummer

  • beautiful song.

    it moves me too

  • great ep mine jumps on this track

  • this song fucking moves me.

  • This song and many other singles are on the album super black market clash I recimend it

  • So do I!

  • whats the song

  • great song! my dad loves the clash lol

  • This 4-song gatefold ep had a colour imprint on the inside of the sleeve where the record went, with coins on the inside.

I listened to this EP 20 times and typed up the lyrics in Oct of '79 and posted it to my dorm room door.

Recorded 8 weeks after their very short first USA tour, where I saw them in WDC.

    The best.

  • Wish I could sing like that, but the only things that matter nowadays are rhythm and melody.

  • Nice one thats from Big Audio Dynamite song Rush

  • Rhythm ... and Melody.

And of all my friends ...
