  • Have you ever played the Gamecube remake titled "Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes"? It's basically the same game, but with graphical/cutscene enhancements galore, redone voice acting (with all the original actors), and all the original game crew.

As for the original, I only played a demo of it that went as far as the part where the DARPA chief dies of a heart attack. I really wanted to see beyond that part, and that's when I discovered there was a remake of the same game on the Gamecube.

  • thanks mAN

  • Yep, epic review is epic. This and Final Fantasy VII, and Parasite Eve were the first Playstation games I ever played/owned. Needless to say, I had one helluvan introduction to the effin' giant that was the Playstation. Ahh, the good ol' days. What a magical time.

Just a word of advice though, you can get the Body Armor much earlier than stated in this vid, by going back to the first hangar and using a card (i'm not sure where), it helps a great deal for the stair chase sequence. 10 Stars sir.

  • damn i got the bad ending

  • Always makes me laugh how Johnny always takes a shit with his trousers up XD

  • finally beat mantis on the emulator. its a pain changing conts on the emu.

  • 0:18 Well done BITCH, correct answer :DD

  • I know it may require a truck load of editing footage and a lot of hard work and effort but I think maybe one day you can review a Zelda game. Though I would imagine a video of that magnitude taking a long time to make considering most of those games are freaking huge except for possibly the two NES titles.

  • good job on the review/walkthrough but for those who still have yet to play through this classic, I highly recommend not even using a guide or go to gamefaqs dot com and look for a spoiler free guide.

  • i wonder if he knew that if you keep you distance you could use the nakita missiles on sniper wolf and vulcan raven and you could use grenades on sniper wolf

  • One thing I cannot get over is how simply incredible the voice acting is in this game. Seriously! It's sounds totally believable! It's better than most games today let alone back in 1998! True master-piece of a game.

  • hey where did you get metal gear solid? I really want to play it.

  • @NinjaMetalic Buy it on Ebay or at a used videogame store.

  • I hope u can review mgs2

  • Awesome review of an awesome game! Hideo himself would have been proud of you! ;)

  • awesome review , just awesome :)

ur reviews r totally amazing :)

  • woah 213 -0 amazing

  • this game owes its initial inspiration to the kickass 1981 film "Escape from New York". ....the original "Snake".

  • Bit of advice for the final jeep section - switch to first person view. You have to hold the buttons in kind of a funny way, but it makes shooting everything SUPREMELY easier.

  • Thanks :) This is my all time favorite game and its good to know others love it just as much

  • The battle against Sniper Wolf in the snowy field is easier when you use Nikita missiles instead of PSG1.

  • it stoped a few times at 2209 dose it do this to any of you

  • AL, you did a walkthrough/review on MGS1!? I can't believe that it's been here for over a month and I wasn't even aware of it until now. You should do a walkthrough/review on Snatcher in the near-future as well as the fan-translated English version of Policenauts.

  • You should pitch your work to thatguywiththeglasses because it's the greatest collection of reviews on the internet. It's also a haven for people who have been unfairly persecuted by youtube *coughs*TomSawyerReview.

  • old days sweet days, I cant forget my time playing with my PS1 and Metal gear in 1998 1999 2000... it was something at that time :)...

  • Wow! An A+ rating! I totally agree!

  • Here's a review for you do Resident evil!!!!

  • Man, I really don't remember half of this when I played the game way back when.

However, it all seems familiar, so yeah... haha.. funny how that is, right? Ah, memories.

  • Also, at a point in playing, I recall I was actually able to get damage into Psycho Mantis while using port one. I could never kill him, but I almost did! Way too time consuming though...

  • Anyone one else watch the full video?

  • Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the Phone call of Ocelot and Solidus also confirm that Snake was the recessive and Liquid the Dominate?

  • If you punch Meryl when the wolves are around you and then quickly equip a box, a wolf will come up and piss on the box and it acts just like Sniper Wolf's handkerchief.

  • your videos hardly have dislikes showing how great of a reviewer you are! :)

  • dope review

  • Are you a partner? How can you make a video so long?

  • @hellsbrethren If your videos get popular enough, you can upload videos longer than 15 minutes, as long as you don't have any guideline or copyright strikes.

  • I didn't know Snake's real name is David! My name is David! Sweet! By the way, great review once again Aqualung!

  • Are you going to do a review/walkthrough of the Game Boy Color Metal Gear game?

  • you should review the two nes metal gear games

  • Are you playing the original cd release of the game, or PS-One Classic release from Playstation Store for PS3?

  • I love how certain plot points of this game were used as an extension in Dead Rising during Overtime Mode. Not gonna spoil anything for anyone who hasn't played the original Dead Rising or unlocked Overtime Mode yet, though. So I wont go into details. But the references are clear as day.

  • Wow, 55 minutes Your longest yet, and as always great work!

  • I actually hit Psycho Mantis before switching my controller to port 2!

  • good job on mgs

  • LOL!

Someone chose "cute" as their reaction!

    WTF?!

I found this as "incredible" not "cute"!

    LOL!

  • @TheTerrificTracy I saw your comment the second after I saw/thought the same thing :D

  • @TheTerrificTracy Ah...We meet again :)

  • @mistertitanic Yes, yes we do!

  • This game is so awesome.

  • 16:46 yeah, that's right.

  • PISSING ON THE PARK BENCH!!!!!

  • hey in the 1st floor basement where meryl is being held get out of the duct then look down again she will do other excersizes

  • 32:06 It would be funny if after you defeated Liquid, you contact Miller and Miller looked bruised and battered, and Snake asks, "What happened do you?" and Miller would just say, "Errm... I hurt myself doing yoga..." or something like that.

34:14 You can also use the stinger missiles on Sniper Wolf.

35:50 Snake falls to his death. "ARRRRGHHHH!!!!" Guard: "Huh? What was that noise?" LOL

  • 06:30 This cutscene is the reason why I like using the 2nd floor duct. I like the foreshadowing it provides.

08:08 I love the way that's edited. I dunno if that was intentional or not. You say that Snake thinks information is being withheld, and Campbell says, "Absolutely not!" LIES!

29:01 Question, can you still go up that ladder if guards are chasing you?

  • @InvaderPet Yeah you can still climb the ladder. It'll be more difficult though as the guards will stop to open fire right away so you may end up taking a lot more damage if you don't stay ahead of them.

  • This is my all-time favorite PlayStation game ever. Even though I've played it, I still love watching reviews, or walkthroughs. It's interesting to see other people play this, how they play it, and their comments.

  • I hate to admit it but until i saw this I never once beat MGS, now that I watched then beat it I feel a little better...I like how it knew I had a Castlevania save, that was cool.

  • There was another "rule" that the game had about Ocelot's torture chamber:

According to Ocelot if you were to use a controller with a turbo feature he would know and the game would end then. I have beaten this game many times(with using the turbo no less) and it turns out that is a lie. Not sure why he said it but I think it was one of Kojima's little tricks to see how far the player would go to try and survive the torture

  • Metal gear was a robot..? I thought it would be something nuke-like.. ._.

  • I've played all the MGS games except for 1&2. Strange.

  • MGS is a masterpiece

    Graphics 5/5 ( for its time )

    Music 5/5

    Story 10/5

    Controls 5/5

    Gameplay 5/5

    Difficulty 5/5

    its just perfect.

People who didn't played must give it a try, you wont regret. Download it, its for PC too.

  • wow i amazed you didn't give reference why you had to look at of the cd case. Wasn't this the games way of anti piracy? I mean why give such a vague clue "back of the cd case" wouldn't it have made more sense if they said "back of your video game CD case" for the longest time I was looking for a CD Case item lol

  • @ultimacj same as me! i got stuck there, the first time i played MGS, i had it pirate, i dont remember what i exactly did, but i think i was calling random numbers on the codec untill i found meryls number, lol. man, when i was a kid i had a lot of patience xD

  • @dakatubes I had the game legit but I totally didn't know what the heck they meant by CD Case also at the same time when you get that data disc i thought THAT was the CD. That was very obsure

and a @ Aqua i automatically knew you'd give the game 5/5. Fantastic video and very well put. If this was the first time I played this game, this would be the video walkthrough I'd use.

  • Great review one of ur best!

  • Are you gonna do MGS 2?

  • @SSJ4Vegeta1986 I plan on it

  • @AqualungGameReviews do u plan to do every metal gear?

  • @AqualungGameReviews You should :)

  • @AqualungGameReviews personally, and alot of people are going to hate me for it, I wasnt a big fan, i much perferred the sequeel

  • HOLY SH*T. AN HOUR!!!

  • GODAMN! you really do put a lot of time and effort into all your videos. :)

  • say aqualung, what do you think about twinsnakes for the NGC ?

  • Did anyone else hear "Revolver Ocelot" and think "Revolver Oshawott" a couple times?

  • Really good!

  • A+? mmm... a bit generous I feel, Thief 2 is probably the only stealth game that should be awarded A+, but hey it's your opinion. Ah yes congratulations on 10,000 subscribers.

  • I can't believe I just sat through this in one sitting :|

  • its fucking extream...

  • Well done on the walkthrough as usual. Actually, I've only ever played the Twin Snakes version of this game but I'm impressed by how good the cut-scenes looked already in the PSX version. I personally enjoyed the over-the-top additions and the voice-acting in the new version, but the point is, it's a great game regardless of which version you play.

  • the first MG should be remade in HD

  • Great review/walkthrough. Like somebody else commented, I've always used nikita missiles in the second Sniper Wolf battle >X). It always cracked me up seeing her death scene, somehow riddled with bullet wounds though I only shot her with missiles. Also, first time I learned I had to go back for the sniper rifle, I turned the game off for like a month out of anger = p

  • Inspired me to download this on the psn and relive the magic again

  • This may only be in the remake, but I think you can hide under the bed when the guard is gone instead of using the ketchup and he'll still run into the cell.

  • Loved returning to Shadow Moses in MGS4. Made me appreciate how much I loved playing the original.

  • I watched the entire review/walkthrough and enjoyed every second of it! GREAT WORK on this true classic!!!

  • i wonder are u gonna do all the metal gears?

  • MAN I LOVE UR REVIEWS UR GREAT

  • How does a ditch hurt you?!

  • Kudos to you for making this man, great job, brings back so many memories, this game was way ahead of its' time.

  • A few more tips: Staring at meryl before the Psycho Mantis fight yields some amusing dialogue. During the fight, you can attack the stone bust instead of switching controller ports. If you run out of Diazepam, you can switch in cigarettes to steady your aim. In the 2nd fight against Sniper Wolf you can use Nikitas instead of the PSG-1. On the elevator ride down to Vulcan Raven, you can attack the crows for some interesting dialogue. Also, dont let Rex step on you, its an instant kill.

  • A few tips, you can kill guards while unarmed. Just sneak up to them and hit the weapon button rapidly. In addition to being silent, sometimes they drop items. If you have rations equipped when you run out of health its used automatically. In the shaft leading to the DARPA chief with Meryl, you can exit and enter the shaft to have her change exercise routines (and clothing). When you get the nikita launcher, you can also use it to destroy most security cameras.

  • 47:13 Wait, what?...his name is "Deepthroat"?

  • 22:28 For the wolf part, just go in your box, they will piss on it and you will be safe to move without them attacking you...because they pissed on you.

  • Upon opening this video I saw 55 minutes at the bottom and said there's no way I'm staying for a review on a game that I played in middle school, boy was I wrong. I made it through the entire video with a smile on my face because you did such a thorough job of breaking down the game, and keeping me entertained at the same time. You should look back on this one day, and be proud sir. Great job.

  • By the way, I had no idea that you could actually force Meryl to go to the restroom sooner. I usually just waited for her to go in on her own.

  • A bug in the PC version of MGS helped me to figure out a better way of getting up the flights of stairs in the communications tower when being pursued by soldiers. The bug that I'm referring to involves the FAMAS firing incorrectly while on the stairs in the PC version. Snake fires straight upwards, which is useless. All you need to do to get through this area, though, is use stun grenades. Toss one every two or three sets of stairs, and you'll coast on through.

  • I bow to you sir.

  • Best review you've done yet man! RESPEKT!

  • time to review sons of liberty

  • Excellent work, you did a great job with the whole thing. I love this game and I have both the original and Twin Snakes. Though I do agree the some of the voice acting isn't as strong and they really should have kept the accents I still really enjoyed the game and play it every so often.

As for some cut scenes being over the top it's true but some of the changes I liked. I looked into it and they planned on making the scenes the same but Kojima told them no and the make the game their own.

  • Excellent job! Great game

  • YESSSSSSSS

  • Also, you shouldn't have said tjat Ocelot is speaking to Solidus wich is the president of the united State. Since you know that only in MGS 2 it's kind of a spoiler there. (I personally never played MGS2 and didn't know that solidus was th president.)

  • @Arc111111 It wasn't a spoiler, he calls him "the third one, Solidus" and then finishes off the conversation addressing him as "Mr. President"

  • @AqualungGameReviews Oh I see, Oddly enough i just played the game last week and though he didn't said his name.

  • @Arc111111 The game has been out for 13 years, it's not a spoiler anymore.

  • Tip : Use a claymore on the tank, it will move much slower after that.

  • After fight with Hind D,you can see parachute at one of trees, that`s how Liquid survived

  • @metalcoola That actually happens after the Hind fight, if you look toward the trees after the second Sniper Wolf fight, you'll see the parachute.

  • @AqualungGameReviews Is it possible to have both the bandana and stealth camo by getting both endings on different saves?

  • @AqualungGameReviews did you play it on the original playstation or the playstation 3?

  • @metalcoola he survived the crash because if you did that youd be sliced to shreds after you jumped i dont think they tell how he survived

  • "Well done Bitch, Correct question, you win $200

  • I wish they would remake this game. It's the best out of the entire series and deserves a 360- PS3 makeover.

  • @maximino27 There already is a remake.

  • @HandeToon For what systems? and when did that happen?

  • @maximino27 The Twin Snakes remake on GameCube, as mentioned in the video. I do think it's about time that the remake got re-released on newer systems though.

  • @HandeToon Yeah that's what I was trying to say in my comment....

  • Are you thinking about reviewing Guns of the Patriots or any other Metal Gear Solid games?

  • Nice review! The villains in the Snake Eaters and MGS4 reminds me of the villains in Ninja Scroll

  • Well, I dunno about PS1 version but using Thermal goggles and staying on ground till you get a clear shot at mantis makes this boss stupid easy. He can't hit you with any of the objects.

  • Metal Gear Solid is, most definitely, one of the best games of all time and, arguably THE best. It's combination of story, action, game play, and all the rest make it a crowning achievement in gaming that set the tone for generations to come and showing the world what a mad genius Kojima is, lol.

For me personally, in all my years of gaming, this is one game I'm proud to say I've finished. It always give me a rush, even after all these years. It's not my overall favorite, but I'd say it's #2.

  • @WillSerenity What would be your #1?

  • @maximino27 Final Fantasy 2/4. It's the game that basically made me a gamer and turned RPGs into my favorite genre. That's an experience that's never gotten old, even after finishing it 20+times, lol.

  • amazing how you did this in 1 vid

  • "antagonist"...whatever dude, i don't see why you need to make up words...

  • Wait a second? If you choose the bad ending and Meryl dies, who drives the Jeep during the last battle with Liquid Snake?

  • @24680987654321 Otacon.

  • This may be a stupid question but is there a gas snake?

  • I love the soundtrack to this game. Highly underrated when put up against it's more elaborately orchestrated sequels. I like the stripped down, atmospheric vibes the music gave the scenery of this game.

  • Snake? SNAKE??? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude, that was epic. Very appreciative of you taking insane amounts of time to put this together. Great review!

  • I loved The Twin Snakes but I agree with you when you say it would have been better off without the matrix bullshit. I loved that Snake in twin snakes played a little more like Big Boss in Snake Eater.

  • Awesome Review/Walkthrough! I never got past the disk change, because right around there I saved and stopped playing for the day and the next day, BOOM, memorycard corrupted and I lost all my data (including my FF VII saves FOR THE SECOND TIME). I was SO pissed of that I didn't play any PS1 games for 3 months and now I just don't want to play it. I'm rambling again, aren't I!

    Awesome game, equally awesome review!

  • this couldnt of been easy to do bcuz of the length of this game and this game being hard(or at least i always thought so), thanks for the dedication to ur fans

  • Couple of things you missed.

The ninja can also be beaten with claymore mines and will actually call you out on this.

Psycho Mantis can be weakened by destroying the two statues in the room.

When fighting Vulcan Raven the second time, Nikita missiles can be used to damage him while staying out of his sight. Also, you can keep your rations from freezing by keeping them equipped.

  • Your reviews are always so awesome, man... I very much appreciate the time and effort you put into these.

  • Although not mentioned in this game, it's mentioned in the epilogue in Metal Gear Solid 2's special features, that Naomi escaped, and Jim Houseman took his own life.

  • lol 00:19 well done bitch

  • lol oo:19 well done bitch

  • 18:46 So look at their asses

  • FIRST PPOST KEN RULES

  • you should do 2,3, and 4 next

  • PS1??? why??? where is atari, nes or sega? :(

  • @pukismukis he just did an atari game not long ago. Why complain at free entertainment.

  • 38:20 Other effective (and safer) ways of taking on Raven are Nikita Missiles, and studying his paths and setting up Claymores (which should be plentiful since you have to collect them so damned often)

  • wow this is soooo long hahaha

  • *gets popcorn*

  • Wow. looks like a Awesome game

  • First, I like your reviews, and your reviewing style. Adding tidbits of history on the games you review is a nice touch. Second, I am doing a walk through for Illusion of Gaia on the snes, but I can't upload more than fifteen minutes woth of video. How did you get around that?

  • Wow! That was impressive! Nicely done! I haven't played this game for years and damn I wish I had it I always thought the Metal Gear games where a mind fuck as you play especially MGS 2 When the Colonel starts telling you "Honestly you have been playing the game for a long time now maybe you should take a break." The first time I heard that I was so scared I actually turned the game off but luckily I saved but like you said earlier that's what Hideo Kajima was going for and it worked.

  • Aww yeah. Shame you will probably never do Final Fantasy due to the walkthrough part of your videos, but I'd love to see you tackle FF IX.

  • There are a couple of alternate methods for beating the later bosses that you didn't mention. The 2nd time you face Sniper Wolf, in the snow field, you can also crouch down behind the right-side hill and use Nikita (remote control) missiles. You can also use those Nikitas against Vulcan Raven to fly around behind him, although that's easier said than done.

  • Just watched all of it, great review/walkthrough

  • Nice walkthrough!

  • I like it when you die with guards around, and they say "Huh? What was that noise?" during the ending sequence.

Nice job, Ken. This is one of your greatest. : )

    ~ Jethro.

  • "What the hell is wrong with the bitch!?" LOL!

  • awesome! The ps1 was my baby when i was 5, i loved it and cherriched it like a baby! i got it addons and controllers and memory cards.

  • Stealth camo also works against lasers (except in the later games).

  • Classic game smh i cant wait for you to do metal gear solid 2 for ps2

  • if you mess up with the ketchup and the ninja saves you does that alter the ending?

  • @jacobholdcroft

not that I'm aware of and I've beaten this game A LOT! Granted it was all on easy but I beat the damn thing 15 times(I kept track) and enjoyed this game a lot. I think it only gets altered depending on if you give up in the torture chamber or not

  • @Amisbro thanks for the answer

  • @jacobholdcroft

    not a problem.

Believe it or not I wasn't a fan of the Metal Gear series until this game. Not that the NES game that I played was bad or anything but I just really didn't see the appeal...little did I know that years later when this game appeared on the PS1 that it would quickly become my most addicting game of all time outside of Mega Man 3

    have a good one

  • @jacobholdcroft No, only giving up.

if you give up, you get Stealth Camo.

If you don't you'll get the Infinite Ammo Headband.
