I gotta disagree, i think his beats are very catchy. His beats are very complex and unique throughout this album. His lyrics are equally profound and unique. Moral of the story; smoke weed and listen to P.O.S.!
P.O.S. (Pissed off Stef) is a lyrical genius and probably the most unique rapper I have ever heard. His lyrics make me think. I learn more in a single P.O.S. song than I do in a week of school. Now thats saying something. His lyrics might not be understood at first but once you analyze them you find that almost every line is mind blowing and creative. P.O.S, Aesop Rock, Immortal Tech, Shad, Nas, Tonedeff, Talib Kweli, RA the rugged Man, Pumpkinhead, Blueprint, and Brother Ali always keep it real
"....Now what do you do? Not exactly like you don't do anything exactly... but more like WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU DO? *BAM* holy shit, that makes you think... People do things but what are they actually doing it for? for there personal happiness only? or for the good of the world? or both? or neither?, so you can get all the possessions you WANT but don't NEED.
The entire album is brilliant. It set my entire tone for 2009 and helped keep me sane in this year. I had the opportunity to see him perform a free live show at ear-x-tacy in Louisville, KY a few years back (I think '07 or '08). It was easily a defining experience for me and I haven't looked back since.
you gotta listen to this with some nice ass headphone. You dont hear all of it unless you hear ALL OF IT. those of you wit hi def headphones know wat im talkin bout ;P
this song sent chills thru my body. this guy is so amazing i love every one of his songs and its almost a wonder how he makes every think flow so smooth. but i guess id be out of my element to question such great lyrical creativity.
I mean like, for the world. I want to go give a year's paychecks to people who need it. I wanna go to the peace corps. I want to be a politician that maybe people will listen to even when i'm not telling something that they like. I want to try to change the world for the better. Ya know?
@thejther yeah....but what about the Dufranes? they're in somebody's trunk right now with duct tape over their mouths. and their hungry. that's a triple whammy!
Saw him at Warped Tour in Vancouver last year. No one in the crowd knew what to expect from a rapper tossed in with all the screamo and metal bands. Needless to say his set started out with the crowd not too into it, but by the third or so song it was probably one of the most involved and loudest of the day. Speaks volumes about his talent and charisma as well as the ability of his music to reach through to genre whores.
This song has so much power within the words. I respect and very much like P.O.S's unique twist in Hip Hop, its very unorthodox, does not sound like any other rapper. His beats might not be catchy but if you really listen to his songs, just sit there and listen to this songs with 100% concentration it really grows on you. His style is genious and poetic
@dp100 I agree 100 percent. He is to hip hop of our generation what Chuck-D was in the late 80's early 90's. He'll never be on the radio or MTV... But who needs him to be? He's a genius. Also a very likeable/approachable dude... Not to mention his live show is absolutely UNFORGETTABLE!
@dp100 I cannot agree more. And you're right, you really have to concentrate on the lyrics to understand them. It's nothing like that 'I got money, I got bitches, I'm gonna blow your head off' crap most rappers put in their songs.
@dp100 not catchy? i'm playing these songs in my head all day, it's part of what gets me through the work day. i don't need to concentrate 100% on his songs to enjoy them.
@dp100 Actually, he reminds me of some of the stuff Sage Francis does. Pretty similiar, hard-hitting and truthful stuff, especially "Best of Times, Worst of Times". I just discourgaed P.O.S. and I'm lovin' it.
It's awesome how in the beginning of the song, he kicks this calm flow, and it really draws in the listener, and then once he says "They're out for presidents to represent them, you think a president could represent you?", it almost sounds like he's trying to yell at you, but he's doing it to get a point across, and he keeps the flow up for the whole song, and then the amazing chorus comes in... This song is just a banger...
definntly my favorite P.O.S. song ever!!! all of them are amazing though.
