Wyler wanted at one point two versions, one for the English Commonwealth and one for the rest of the world. The lawyers advised against it and many scenes were dropped. I know this because I played the role. Chuck and I were the last living actors at a showing of the film at the Academy in Hollywood in 2003.

This is a great movie, and it does capture the Majestry of Jesus' presence, his ministry, and crucifixion. The parallels that run through the movie with a Jewish man who wants justice to a Jewish man who gives justice are extraordinary. Great film.

Miriam and Tirzah aren't healed by "touching the bloody water" - they're healed instantly with the severe crack of the lightning. You can't see any water until they exit the cave.
This movie is so INTENSE, I cannot think of any that rivals it in that sense. Heston's performance is so underrated. Every scene is just exploding with meaning and awe, I think there probably never was a more difficult role in all of cinema, and never will be.

The reason Judah is the only one out of the condemned men the soldiers deny water is not just because they think he tried to assassinate the prosecuter, but more especially out of anti-Semitism. True fothgt,and when any Christian themed movie makes it into theatres nowadays,it is quickly ridiculed and assaulted. I can only speak for America but this country is doomed to destruction if it keeps rejecting God in every venue of life.

The nun judged and convicted the little boy for something he did not do. While the rest of the 2nd grade class began to receive an abundance of Valentine's candy she pointed to him an yelled, "NO CANDY FOR HIM." Miriam and Tirzah aren't healed by "touching the bloody water" - they're healed instantly with the severe crack of the lightning. You can't see any water until they exit the cave.

This movie is so INTENSE, I cannot think of any that rivals it in that sense. Heston's performance is so underrated. Every scene is just exploding with meaning and awe, I think there probably never was a more difficult role in all of cinema, and never will be.

..this scene my personal fav too, also the one where Judah Ben-Hur offers water to the thirsty Jesus Christ who is on his way to Golgotha, two very moving scenes..great movie..a timeless classic...but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst(John 4:14)..Jesus Christ, our Lord had to be born as a human being, endure all the sufferings & be crucified on the cross for our sins....Praise be to God the Almighty.

One out of the few "pro-christianism" movies (along with Kingdom of heaven for example) which really rocks a lot. A story about faith , courage and love.
And man !!! just look at Jesus ... each time he appears in the movie it's just so damn great ... I really mean it even if I'm no believer (especially no christian).

The reason Judah is the only one out of the condemned men the soldiers deny water is not just because they think he tried to assassinate the prosecuter, but more especially out of anti-Semitism. Just goes to show anti-Semitism existed long before Christ came into the picture, and the hypocrisy over the next 1,930-something years of the anti-Semites using the Crucixion as an excuse to justify their persecution of them, overlooking the fact that Jesus is/was Jewish Himself. :(

In the film it was put there as a dramatic prop...a build up, as it were, for this classic scene...
