Croatia did exist but it lost own king in 1097., went in dual monarchy with Hungary and then lost independence in 1102. but Croatia was autonomy of Hungarian Kingdom, then Habsburg Monarchy( later Austro-Hungarian Monarchy). We lost Autonomy in 1929. in Kingdom of Yugoslavia until 1939. with, get "independence" in 1941., then in SFRY we were again autonomy until 1991. when we declare independence.
