Scott Dettra needs to consult with Mr. Helms. Scott is the organist at Washington National Cathedral. He said the organ is only 30% Skinner. Plans are on hold now to put a Dobson in place of the Skinner. He has said it needs some major work. Hope they do not rip it all out.
I understand they do not use this wonderful organ enough for services. Do not understand. Why would a church choose a piano and/or a "praise band" instead of this instrument? I love the pipe organ with choir... more serene and holy.
@march131958 This church is very good about using their instrument. As far as I know they use it for every single service. They have a very good traditional music program. I completely agree with your synopsis.
wow... that an organ and this man knows how to bring out the sound in it! I wish you could play more songs along the same lines with great intros and full organ sound. You have the talent!
It is always a great pleasure to hear the organ builder sit down at the console and play, as he knows the instrument inside and out. Many times his tonal registrations are a quiet testing of his voicing and tuning giving us a performance you would never imagine. I have experienced this as I worked for an organ builder for 3 years many years ago. Every time Chris sat at the console and played it would send shivers down my spine and goose bumps everywhere....cont'd
...cont'd. Thank you Jonathon for posting these fabulous videos of Mr. Thomas Helms performances. He is an astounding organist and truly a craftsman organ builder extraordinare!!! I envy you having the opportunity to hear him in person and thank you again for sharing these fabulous videos. Best Regards, Roy
