I just adopted Sue, the first horse pulled from the wreck. It breaks my heart that she was on the road to slaughter at age 4. Sue is one of the most talented horses I've ever met, and she's so trusting of people. It's scary to think that if this truck hadn't tipped, she'd be dead, along with all of the other horses. Thank you to everyone who helped take part in this rescue.

@liltaz1225 most horses are sent to the slaughter house because the owners send them there because of small behavioral problems that just need a little time to repair, and the owners dont give the horse a chance. We've saved a few horses from there, and after about 1day, the horses were ready to be ridden by little kids. It's amazing what people will do for money

Yes, horse slaughter is now illegal in the US. Now what do people do with horses that are crippled or untrainable? They are abandoned in pastures or barns and left to starve. There are as many if not more horses being abused or neglected now that the slaughter houses are closed. It is just not as public as accidents such as these are. Iv been to longmeadows after the wreck and iv seen Twist of Fate and others they rescued, such a sad sad accident, horse slaughter is cruel and inhumane.
How ironic and sad but this crash actually saved thses horses from a far worse and more terrifying fate had they ended up in the slaughterhouse. I am glad some survived and hope they went on to forever homes.
I have actually met Earlene Cole. She brought my Walkaloosa gelding to me from Springfield, MO. She has a way of working with horses and is VERY friendly and glad to help anyone.
5 Years ago we went the a horse slaughter house and we saw all of the horses lined up and by accident i walked in a room and all we saw was blood LOTs of blood and about 16 horses hanging from the room dead .. so then we saw this beautiful warmblood lined up .. we went to see the boss of the slaughter house and said we would liek to buy that horse he siad ok so we baught him but i wish i could of savec them all .. ppl its not a very nice sight to see ina slaughter house
What I want to know is what kind of person could do this to so many innocent animals? Horses have feelings to. Some people disgust me. But I want to say thank you to all those people who rescue horses from slaughter. Without people like these, our world would not be a nice one. And I know that some horses are so severely injured that they have to be put down. While this makes me sad, I understand. But there is absolutely no reason to send so many young and old horses to slaughter.

Another trailer accident was on the Illinois/Wisconsin border in 2007. 57 ' geldings' were headed to slaughter in Canada. The driver was an illegal immigrant who fled the scene on foot after tipping the tractor/trailer. 25 horses were euthanized on the highway. The state patrol cover all the carcasses with blue tarp because it was too horrific for the public to see & for the carnage to be video shot for news coverage. Mustang stallions are labeled geldings so they can be sold to slaughter.

Before planning to breed horses, you should take more informations about the mares and the stallions, so they get good horses. But breeders don't care, because it's nice to have a foal from the own mare, even if they don't have any skills or expertise.

But I do happened to know what happened to him. He came through it fine, and was promptly arrested for outstanding warrants. His passenger also walked without injuries
I dont want to pick a fight with you, but I haul horses for a living.(in A single deck trailer) as it is illegal to double deck in canada. but I know for a fact that you can still use a double deck in usa. (in montana anyway) but why hate the driver. why not hate the millions of irresponsible horse hobbiests, that let these horses deteriorate to the point that when they decide to sell the horse because they cannot afford the vet bills,the only one that will buy them is a meat buyer.
Since jan 1 09, Ive hauled Apprx. 650 horses to slaughter. And let me tell you some of the shit i've seen would make your stomach turn. but the stuff I see is done to these poor horses before they get bought buy the meat buyer. What a shame! All of those poor horses! Some were VERY lucky too survive! So many were young! I am soo glad most of the horses survived and the baby! I agree with you, but you know then you have to look at dogs,cats,cows etc.. How many of these animals are killed or slaughtered young and with no problems? I have a 2 year old pug that a lady took to the vet and wanted him put down for no reason other than she didnt like him. I paid her 40 dollars to let me take him home.. That is my baby.. He is like a child to me, but how many die in shelters? If you look at the over all problem you have to take in every animal..

you praise the lord that the slaughter houses are closed, but it is sad that some of these horses have to be trucked scared, hungry, thirsty and some lame and in pain 1000 of miles to meet a fateful end. I own horses and I love them very much, but put aside that they are beautiful lovely creatures for one minute. If you had not have voted to close slaughter houses these horses would not have been on this truck. Over 50,000 horses were slaughtered just in 2 plants in Canada.

This made me cry so much... and gave me chills. So many of them were so young, who would even think about bringing them to the... slaughter house???? Jeezes, even pregnant horses :(

Iv been to longmeadows after the wreck and iv seen Twist of Fate and others they rescued, such a sad sad accident, horse slaughter is cruel and inhumane.

How ironic and sad but this crash actually saved thses horses from a far worse and more terrifying fate had they ended up in the slaughterhouse. I am glad some survived and hope they went on to forever homes.

I have actually met Earlene Cole. She brought my Walkaloosa gelding to me from Springfield, MO. She has a way of working with horses and is VERY friendly and glad to help anyone.

5 Years ago we went the a horse slaughter house and we saw all of the horses lined up and by accident i walked in a room and all we saw was blood LOTs of blood and about 16 horses hanging from the room dead .. so then we saw this beautiful warmblood lined up .. we went to see the boss of the slaughter house and said we would liek to buy that horse he siad ok so we baught him but i wish i could of savec them all .. ppl its not a very nice sight to see ina slaughter house

What I want to know is what kind of person could do this to so many innocent animals? Horses have feelings to. Some people disgust me. But I want to say thank you to all those people who rescue horses from slaughter. Without people like these, our world would not be a nice one. And I know that some horses are so severely injured that they have to be put down. While this makes me sad, I understand. But there is absolutely no reason to send so many young and old horses to slaughter.

Video portrays 2 types of humans. The scumbag type....the ones that do the slaughtering. The ones who use the horses to make money and throw away the losers. And The kind type...all those responsible for the aftermath. Thankfully for these horses Missouri has a bunch of kind humans. The horses all looked so sad and pathetic, they would've had a long life if not for the interaction of human beings. Humans destroyed them, now humans will build them back up.

Another trailer accident was on the Illinois/Wisconsin border in 2007. 57 ' geldings' were headed to slaughter in Canada. The driver was an illegal immigrant who fled the scene on foot after tipping the tractor/trailer. 25 horses were euthanized on the highway. The state patrol cover all the carcasses with blue tarp because it was too horrific for the public to see & for the carnage to be video shot for news coverage. Mustang stallions are labeled geldings so they can be sold to slaughter.

I know that its 9-14-09 right now so they are long gone but I wish I could have had Liberty. Cremello is my absolute fave color in a horse I need a mare I prefer Quarter Horses and as lonf as their at least 2 I will love them. But shes long gone by now.

who do you think you are? In my opinion breeders should take care to their horses. Before planning to breed horses, you should take more informations about the mares and the stallions, so they get good horses. But breeders don't care, because it's nice to have a foal from the own mare, even if they don't have any skills or expertise.

Its cruel what they do but you've gotta keep in mind that they kill those animals to feed most of us, whether its horses cows chickens, animal slaughter is cruel and the killing methods are incomprehensible but if ur not a vegetarian, those horses and all other animals well, you EAT them. And if you want to be herd for all these animals make a stand, don't just comment on youtube.

i am so glad that some of them survived and can now live in peace, with no fear. horse slaughter is the most disgusting crime and it MUST BE STOPPED! many horses, no matter what their past, make wonderful companions. don't give up on these beautiful equines... help to save them!

johnzmu- No, I don't give a shit, because he was doing something illegal (double decker trailers are illegal for carrying horses, for this reason) that caused horrendous pain and suffering. But I do happened to know what happened to him. He came through it fine, and was promptly arrested for outstanding warrants. His passenger also walked without injuries

I dont want to pick a fight with you, but I haul horses for a living.(in A single deck trailer) as it is illegal to double deck in canada. but I know for a fact that you can still use a double deck in usa. (in montana anyway) but why hate the driver. why not hate the millions of irresponsible horse hobbiests, that let these horses deteriorate to the point that when they decide to sell the horse because they cannot afford the vet bills,the only one that will buy them is a meat buyer.

Since jan 1 09, Ive hauled Apprx. 650 horses to slaughter. And let me tell you some of the shit i've seen would make your stomach turn. but the stuff I see is done to these poor horses before they get bought buy the meat buyer. If you people have your way and end horse slaughter, what are we gonna do with the millions of horses out there that are already suffering do to neglect. turn them in to the wild? Bear food? cougar food? Do your reaserch, horses are not native in north america anyway.

as much as I hate to see these horses go to the slaughter house... you are correct... it's the people who put them there that deserved it, not the middle man... in this case the drive. I am glad he is okay. If you look at the horses though, they were pets, given up by irresponsible people... look amongst yourselves before you go and blame an innocent driver...

What a shame! All of those poor horses! Some were VERY lucky too survive! So many were young! I am soo glad most of the horses survived and the baby! Those horses will have too live the rest of their lives with that pain. It never goes away. I am so glad that Slaughter is now illegal in the US. This was a beautiful video. or would you rather they open the slaughter houses back in the US so they can be shot in the head and the pain ends instantly? Yes some of these horses are young, but are the all sound free from mental problems? Over breeding is a big problem with these creatures. I know that every person that loves these animals does not like this end. I dont, but look at the alternative from this video. Think with your head not your heart. Do the right thing. Noone wants to see an old friend die.

I agree with you, but you know then you have to look at dogs,cats,cows etc.. How many of these animals are killed or slaughtered young and with no problems? I have a 2 year old pug that a lady took to the vet and wanted him put down for no reason other than she didnt like him. I paid her 40 dollars to let me take him home.. That is my baby.. He is like a child to me, but how many die in shelters? If you look at the over all problem you have to take in every animal..

If we could give them all away where would they go? some backyard to a person who knows not one thing about taking care of them? So now they die a slow death from the owner that cant take care of them? Can someone tell me with intellegence and no fighting or name calling if you had a horse, dog, cat or whatever and it was starving would you rather it die for months in a field, can you afford the cost of euth. and burial (around 1500 to 3000 depending on where you live.

you praise the lord that the slaughter houses are closed, but it is sad that some of these horses have to be trucked scared, hungry, thirsty and some lame and in pain 1000 of miles to meet a fateful end. I own horses and I love them very much, but put aside that they are beautiful lovely creatures for one minute. If you had not have voted to close slaughter houses these horses would not have been on this truck. Over 50,000 horses were slaughtered just in 2 plants in Canada.

If people love their dogs & cats enough to have them humanely put down, their horses should recieve the same. I cannot believe that all the people knew this is where their horses where bound, but I bet that more at least half of them that took the horse to the auction did. most horses going to slaughter are purchased at a public aution
there is no facility to inspect the horses and no way to know if they are lame or sound
the meat buyers are willing to pay more for the animal than someone looking for a horse to ride because there is no way to know if the horse is useable
you are all more than welcome to go to your local livestock auction and buy as many horses as you would like
each one you buy is allowed to continue to live as long as you or the lo
