  • ahhhhhh stories like this really scare me about homestay!! You never know what your family is going to be like...

  • u could also have tried catching a cab since the driver would know the area or have a gps or something

  • ^_^ they don't all do, but it would be worth a shot!

  • wtf @ yakuza. They would probably use you as a prostitute. Glad you got out of that house!

  • I' so sorry ur host family was evil, that room and hallway was a fire hazard. Hope you got a new place ASAP!

  • thats crazy! omg! I wanna go to tokyo & or anywhere on that beautiful island of japan but I never imagined an evil host family! I mean Japan has had there times but most Japanese people I encounter or see r really nice!... unless there pretending...? uh oh

  • ever heard of "Minnesota nice"? The Japanese are minnesota nice. That said, of course there are lots of very kind people too.

  • so true

  • @midori1 So true, I'm from Minnesota and when I was there we had "nice" battles... they won ^_^

  • you did a good choice... :D

  • did you even get a refund? sux that u can't sue them lol ^^

  • well i did stay at there place & use their electricity, water etc. so I gave them a little money but not nearly as much as was planned per week.

  • same thing happened to me when i just got to Norway.. i got lost after buying all the food in the grocery store and it was freezing and the road full of ice and i walked up the hill for like 2 hours..... but seriously.. whats wrong with that people???

  • I went to Japan last summer for a week . We had a little bit of everything and got lost ALOT lol so we ( 3 girls ) would spend hours walking through Tokyo very late at night. I would get a little creeped out when i heard strange noises but wouldnt worry too much about it. One thing im very thankful for are the people who helped us out by their own will, amazing people~ even tho we arent good with Japanese they would really try to help us. I also encountered Yakuza, thats another story XD

  • the yakuza thats not another story tell me now please? :D

  • What kind of things were the mean policemen saying? Wow...I can't believe those people would be so rude and discourteous to you. Congrats on making it out of such a situation.

  • Actually I don't remember- that was about a year ago now, but yeah...that sucks. When I got mad at them I think they realized I was serious. Looking back, I wonder if they didn't think I was serious at first cuz I had said that I didn't think it was safe to walk alone at night by myself, but after living in Japan, I know that it is now.

  • @midori1 japan is safe, one of the safest in the world! waay safer than america. dont let this first bad experience give doubt on japan.

  • @jukio02

yes...but bad things still happen. 2 people were killed while I was there-- one was a school girl who was lost on a school field trip- they found her will her head cut off several meters away. The 2nd was an elderly women in my area who was found with her head, hands, arms and legs all cut off. I SAW a 下着泥棒 outside my apartment (running off holding underwear). +There was the teacher from England who was killed in Chiba where I was. Then there's all the 痴漢 (i was groped 7 times).

  • @jukio02

I do feel safer alone at night in Tokyo than I would in New York, but I was still approached by creepy men to take pictures for hentai magazines twice. I would tell people not to be afraid, but they should still be careful if they are a foreigner. I think Japanese women probably get harassed less. What have your experiences been like?

  • i would of got my shit and left fuck that

  • Scary.........i had a similar exp while traveling

  • really? what happened with you?

  • No street signs? oh my goodness, poor thing! You're really patient, though. I would go insane if I got lost.

  • Hello, there. Excellent videos! Um, what....town did you live in where you were creeped out? I wanted some advice because I'm planning on studying abroad there...and would love to know where not to go.

    =3

  • poor you... I'm hoping of getting into a program like this, but I just hope I don't get a family like yours.

    whats yakuza?

  • yakuza is the gangster group in Japan- known for full body tattoos & missing fingers

  • thats comforting O_o

  • omg i would of been so scared if i were u omg i felt so bad watching the vid and what a werid family.

  • it sucked at the time, but everything's cool now. ^_^b

  • r u sure u saw yakuza?? wat area r u in tokyo? Cuz they usualy wear color suits like blue and green and stuff

  • even when i got to my college this weird couple looked after me it took about a week just to get properly settled, and i did nt get a real meal for about 10 days as noone pointed out the dining hall, whenever i asked anyone they just looked at me like i was crazy, (strong NE english accent), but i got that alot in america, not to mention one of the first students i met wanted to fight me because i asked for my basketball back in the gym, there is always bother when you more to new places.

  • When i moved out to america to go to school, i got up to the BBC news in a hotel in london telling me that all airports were on a RED alert for terrorism, heathrow was a nightmare, long story short i was on the road for close to three days without food or sleep, most the time i sat on the floor in the airports that i was in, not to mention getting frisked every twenty minutes for being foreign, cont.

  • what a mental story, to be honest first impressions usually are a snapshot of whats to come, i would have probably started to loose my temper after about an hour, but they d proably just lock me up, but then again you give people shit you get it back, right.

  • Thanks so much for posting these informational videos. I was planning to enroll in a program this summer where they pay a host family to house and feed you. I'm now seriously considering other options for my living accommodations, just in case.

  • ^_^ You're welcome! I wouldn't worry too much about it actually. It works out well for most people. I would strongly suggest trying to talk to your host family before you go though. Most will send you pics of everything, but if they don't, even after you send them pics, then you should watch out. A family with a messy house or other problems won't send pics usually.

  • Damn....what a crappy homestay place...

Eeek...the window thing was creepy too....

Glad you got out of that place!

  • haha yeah that was actually funny- i mean just to see that on top of everything else

  • Great story, keep it up

  • Incredibly informational. I'd hope you were having a safer time. I don't mean to sound too apathetic but I'm actually glad you took your surroundings seriously.

I was just speaking with an old classmate that will be starting her exchange program in a few days and she is entirely too optimistic about not only where she will be living, but also what she'll do if she's in a pinch.

Nice choice on YUKI by the way at the end. I couldn't get her メッセージ single out of my head all Christmas.
