I was fortunate that I heard this song in my soul when I was very young, and all through my childhood years. I am nearly 60 now, but I always glimpsed possibilities even though I knew I was living in the wrong gender until I was able to correct that in my 40's. I have always known that a better place existed if I made the sacrifices, and, while I have a somewhat ordinary life, it has been a full life. Fred's song really touched my heart.
Just a year ago I talked to a roman-catholic priest, great fried of mine, who's living in an abbey. He told me: Everytime I hear this song, I have to cry, because I am so lonely.
And I just have to thank you, In the name of this priest, because you gave him the feeling of freedom and helped him to break free - even if it's just in his mind - of his everyday-life.
Thank you. You make me smile everytime I hear you sing.
'Everything Possible' I was recommended to listen to this song.. The lyrics is so simply yet heartfelt.. maybe because I am getting through some difficult times personally.. Deep down inside, I really wanna be a better person that I can be.. Unfortunately I stumble upon life obstacles along the way.. lately.. I just wonder if I can be anybody I want as the song says..
The lyrics are simple and meaningful. Unfortunately, I can't take credit for writing the song, but I do believe in the message that Fred Small was trying to convey. I'm truly sorry for your difficult times. We all experience our own personal obstacles in life and we can only do the best we're capable of doing to get past them. The message in the song is a parent telling the child that you can be anything you want to be, a message I wish all parents would convey to their children.
I know how much I would've benefitted from those words as a child. I'm certainly not an expert or qualified to give out advice, but for me I think the joy of reaching one's goal(s) is the adventure of getting there. Whether or not a person ever reaches that goal, they'll always know they did everything possible to get there and feel the satisfaction from the journey. Don't we often upon reaching our goals then strive for a new goal? I believe it's more about the journey than the destination.
I was one of the first babies born in Virginia to a lesbian couple through artificial insemination. They sang this song to me when I was young and now I sing it to my children too. This song is very close to my heart, the message is so simple and beautiful! I wish there were more parents and people out there who could accept everybody for who they are and let their children find their own happines, no matter where or who they are with! You have a wonderful voice- brought tears to my eyes!!
The Pittsburgh Gay Men's Chorus did the best arrangement of this song I have ever heard for many years - it was a showstopper with a director named Larry. It always gave me chills. It sings so much better as a lullaby than the up-tempo versions like the Flirtations do. Your interpretation is genuine and tonally pure as well. I wish I could get every non-gay person to really HEAR this song. Fred S. wrote a classic and timeless ballad. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you for your very nice comments. I can't imagine not singing this beautiful song exactly as written. I'm glad you feel the same way about it. Thanks again for writing...makes me remember why I love to sing this song.
Thank God!!....You didn't change the original version I heard by Fred in the middle 90's. How refreshing to hear you sing this. Ya me too, I'm not cryin' either...;).....sniff....sniff. Thank You.
I was asked to do some research on you for my "Nature Of Evil" class. I imagine we are suppose to find a reason to believe that if evil exists there can't be a god that would allow that?I had no idea who you were until now. I'm glad I do. Thank you for all you do to support the GLBTQQI people.
I've allways loved this song and actually got to sing it on stage. Your version is very beautiful. I can tell it's from the heart. Thank you for posting this
Thank you for your kind message. As you know from personal experience, it is always a pleasure to sing it. I'm grateful to Fred Small for writing a song with such a poignant, yet simple, message.
I loved this song the first time I heard it many years ago and I'm always grateful for any chance to sing it. Thank you for your incredibly kind comments.
I just wanted to say that my parents sang me this song almost every night of my childhood. It really shaped who I am today and I have a feeling it will always shape me. It warms me inside.
Thank you! Your incredibly kind and generous message was the boost I've been needing lately. I wish I could meet you too, return your huge hug and sing it for you personally.
I want to meet the you, Fred Small, and Christopher Marlowe... and I want to give them a huge hug and thank them profusely for writing this. Thank you, for performing this and uploading it. If there's any justice in this world at all, then I promise you that you've done something worthy of much reward. Thank you again... I hope some parent out there sings this to their children at night. If I ever do, I know I'll take voice lessons just so that I can decently. Thank you again.
Really a lovely and touching performance of this wonderful piece. I heard the Flirts perform it twice, once in Seattle where I live and once at UMass Amherst, my alma mater. I like that you remained more true to Small's original. And I've never heard it more lovingly sung. Thanks so much.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind message. The Flirts were wonderful, so I'm touched to even be mentioned in the same paragraph. As for Mr. Small's beautiful song, I basically sang it as it was written. It seemed perfect to me the way he wrote it, so I left it that way. Thanks again.
I love this song. The lyrics are very meaningful. It was sung by the Renaissance City Choir of Pittsburgh when I first herad it, and it brought me to tears.
Thank you. The credit goes to the composer, Fred Small. His beautiful melody and meaningful lyrics make it pleasure to sing. Thanks again for your kind comment.
That is wonderful! I'm sure it will be a great experience for you and your school. Please let Mr. Small know how grateful I am to him for writing such a poignant song and how much I love singing and performing it.
I first heard this beautiful song done by the great Flirtations. It means so much more to me now that I have a child. My wish for him is everything possible. Norman, your rendition was just lovely. Thank you for sharing this video!
Thank you, Celeste, for your very kind message. It means so much to me that thoughtful people like you are seeing, hearing and appreciating this beautiful song by Fred Small.
We sang this in 4 part harmony at our Unitarian Church in Peterborough (Ontario) a few weeks back. It is a wonderful, touching song. It is magic. It is locked forever in my heart as one of those songs that bubble up joyfully and unbidden from time to time. Thank you. Sybil
Thank you, Sybil, for taking the time to write such a kind message. I first heard and performed the song in the mid-90's with a small vocal ensemble. It had always remained in my heart and memory and I finally decided about a year ago to do it as a solo. Thanks again for being so thoughtful.
Wonderful! I heard this sung by an a cappela choir years ago and was struck by it then, and went searching for it today because I am expecting a baby and want to sing it as a lullaby. Do you know if it's possible to still get the chorale version? I sing in a Unitarian women's choir and we would love to do a song like this for an upcoming event... Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for your kind message. What a perfect song to sing to your baby. I originally sang it in an a cappella choir many years ago. I did a bit of online research for you to find a choral arrangement and they do seem to be available. I'm not allowed to put website addresses on youtube, but if you do a search for "fred small" "everything possible" you should eventually find your way to choral arrangements that you can purchase. Thanks again.
This is beautiful. There's no other word for it. Your voice is amazing, and this song... well... words cannot describe it. If I ever have kids, I intend to play this for them every night.
I love, love love your Voice!!! You are so amazing. I used to listen to this song on my flirtations CD when I was twenty. I also sang it to my nephew when he was a Baby. Thanks for making my day!
This is the song I play for my nephews when they stay the night. This is the song I want played at my funeral. This song is pure joy. Imagine how wonderful and different this world could be with children hearing this song as a lullaby! I love this song. I praise to the highest the person who wrote this song. I still get goosebumps listening to it. Pure perfection!
Imagine how wonderful and different this world could be with more people like you. Thank you for your very kind message. I've loved this song for many years and I finally had the chance to perform it and hope to sing it hundreds of times.
I love your recording of this. Like many others I learned of this song through listening to The Flirtations. Your version brings tears to my eyes. Beautiful, rich and lush voice. I have posted your URL to my blog and to a forum that recommends new music to people. Your voice moves me. Thank you so much for posting this.
