Truly amazing that greed --I'm referring to the greed of those individuals who have refused to allow this masterpiece to be enjoyed by all-- should compel ANYONE to behave in such a stingy fashion. What makes it all the more offensive is that the parties who behave so covetously had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the making of "The Jazz Singer." I understand that it's their legal prerogative to be money-grubbers, but their actions should be regarded as an affront to the work of their forebears
What none of you seem to undertsand is that the audio quality of a 1927 vitaphone recording is so perfect that the public would download the music from this clip onto their iPods or flash drives or even tape recorders and listen to it for FREE depriving WMG the royalities they so richly derserve. Now go to the store and buy an Edison Disc of this recording the way you should! GEEZE!
This is exactly why copyright needs to be revised, this is an 85 year old clip:
The actors are dead, the director is dead... the people producing this, also... Dead.
Yet the copyright remains, as a haunting ghost set simply to extort EVERY LAST PENNY from anything that big companies can get their fat, greasy hands on.
Not to mention stopping any remakes or any artistic continuation of any theme remotely similar to this one without fear of legal action.
Without the 16 inch 33 1/3 rpm "Vitaphone" disc originally accompanying this scene, you get the idea just how "limited" early sound movies were at the time- only William Fox's "sound-on-film" offerings became the industry's standard within a year.
wow u r very retarded racist or racism only goes for race saying someone is culturally racist is very retarded u can say discriminating against culltures but not culturally racist
Boycott "WMG". Suggestion: buy nothing they sell or promote.
What thieves of Americana!
What fools these copyright usurpers be!
They could put an ad into the clip instead of to breed ill will that no amount of reparation of apology will ever repair. I hope that corporate entity dies. Then we may have music again for this most important movie.
@CESkootchy exactly agreed 100 percent!! not to mention that everyone who had anything to do with the making of the film and also most everyone who even saw it in the theater then are long gone as well!!!

WMG, are you kidding me? Even silent films had music. It's bad when after almost 100 years, things are somehow regressing.

It is a sad commentary on the attitudes of the people at WMG that they would even consider blocking the soundtrack for this.
It just goes to show that all they are interested in is crossing their palms with silver.
Will 30 pieces do?
KiwiKugai 2 years ago
there's a very strong irony in this being muted.
