You know these dogs were breed in Germany to hunt for badgers and other rodents? I have a long haired wiener dog too and I read up on them and this was actually what they are used for
My Mini-Doxie has a heck of a sniffer on him. If anyone comes into out house and he's in the backyard he will sniff every single place that person stepped inside our house. He's make a great drug dog. LOL He sneezes a lot just my Wife & I do. Allergies. Our baby sleeps in the bed with us and is so spoiled.
I have a grand total of 5 (4 and 1/2 wieners because one is a chi weenie) between myself and my fiance. It's a whole brood of psychotic barking and howling when people walk by the house -_- but I love my little snausages ^_^

yes they were ORIGINALLY bred to hunt for badgers, BUT they are also used for fox hunting, gopher hunting, minx hunting, and basically any sort of "vermin" you can think of. Their sturdy paws and chest make for excellent offensive and defensive weapons against the sharper claws of burrowing vermin.
