Is it just me or was the music better back in the 70's, it seemed to show more emotion, and love, we have become so selfish now. I hope we go back to this time, Michele.
just love the lyrics, i.e. "after you go i'll have a lot more room in my closet, and after you go i'll stay out all night long if i feel like it....," simple things so overlooked or taken for granted until it really happens!
@allensubijano We've lost the passion in our music and our lives. Everyone is plugged into something or other... surely that is sucking the passion out of us one byte at a time... I know I'm old now cuz I wish things were "the way they used to be" :-(
@andriakilgore I take this song to mean that he's trying to "convince" himself that he will be so happy once she's gone - all the freedom he'll have but deep down he knows he really misses/loves her.
@vitadude I agree with you in moving on but if we arre just talking about this song - he says "after" you're gone, which to me, means she hasn't quite left/moved out yet....so the emotions/feelings are still there and fresh. No matter what you break up with someone you love for, in the beginning, whether they cheated, there were money problems, whatever, you go back & forth from convincing yourself you are better off without that person to really hurting over losing them. Just my opinion
Such a simple song. I don't know what year it was from. But the melody and lyrics were gread. It was influences by a progression of melodies since the 1930's or maybe earlier. Wt still have great songs and songwriters, unfortunately we only buy the 4 or 5 artists that are rammed down our throats by the corporate media. Have a listen to the Edge 102 in Toronto. Still some great music. Thank goodness..
His soft little trill on the line "And when you're gone, I can run in the house screaming..." is truly one of a kind. Michael's voice is a classic, as is this song. I grew up in the 70's and still love it today.
I'm #954 and sometimes I listen to stuff like 'Paint Me a Birmingham' or ' Long Long Time' and start to think about what I had but don't have now. Then I listen to Crystal Bernard sing 'Have We Forgotten What Love Is?' and 'Love is Strong' by Paul Overstreet. Those songs remind me what real love is all about, like I Corinthians 13, and I realize I didn't nor couldn't lose the real thing.
I HAVE CRYED FOR LOST LOVE SO MANY TIMES OVER THIS SONG THAT IT STILL MAKES ME CRY AND NOW I AM LOOSEING MY WIFE FOR SHE NO LONGER LOVES ME. I DONT THINK I EVER REMEMBER BEING THIS SAD THOUGH.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
Yes we remember when this song came out. I was working at a grocery store that played it on the background music system. After I was fired, they kept playing it, brings tears to my eyes-digitally recorded music does not hold a candle to analog tape!
@heebieandjeebie The Taste of food WAS better, anthe taste of food ong before we were born was even MORE falvorful. Today's food crops are bred against disease and tend to taste rather bland (red delicious apples might be really red, but they taste like sugar-water). And tyhe whoole thing about disease is kind of a joke, too. Bananas are almost totally monocultural and, having no genetic variation, are dying worldwide...
@michaelsmorrison Wonderful poem, I lost my Mother a little over 2 yrs ago and I feel lost, I adored her, simply adored her. She was my best friend and she loved this song, as well as the B5-2's Love Shack, which we played at her memorial. Keep up the great work, Michele.
@revwjh Actually, they called the 80's the "me" generation. And that was because Ronald Reagan taught people how to get ahead in this world no matter who you stepped on to get there. But yeah, sadly, the "me" generation has returned and it's all about burning whoever you need to, even your own mother, to get ahead. Sad..
@auctionguyinmo I have 2 or 3 tasty rationalizations a day just to get by. As for the song....yeah, I did that...till I found out what a lowlife she was. Then I sang Already Gone.

Deep Blue
When my little hands splashed in the cool clear water
My mother watched me smile as I saw the dreams float by
like fragile bubbles across the deep blue tile
The waters of my past now well up within me
so it begins to rain as I cry...and I am so blue...Blue as the stormy sky
