@ freshmakerr how do u know it's a motor cycle engine mate? Don't yamaha make engines for shifter karts? This guy seems to have used top of the range gear, I doubt he would have went to this expense and dumped a crap engine into this kart
@99trunkz Moto engines have the intake on the rear and exhaust on the front. Racing engines specifically built for karts are the opposite - intake on the front and exhaust on the rear.
They come that way, in fact all motorcycles nowdays come with sequential gearboxes. Instead of shifting with your left foot though you shift with your right hand using the handle sticking out on the right side of the steering wheel. And the larger silver one on the left side of the steering wheel is the clutch, which you only need for starts from a dead stop. The rest of the time its clutchless up and down shifts.
Mine is geared right now for a top speed of about 85mph. Which is just perfect for the tracks i frequent. These can easily top 110mph though. The real limit on these karts isnt the gearing, its the tires.
Maybe eventually, but only to step up to a newer chassis. Im not gonna be getting rid of her for a while though, to much fun. Keep an eye out on craigslist in larger cities and nice karts pop up pretty frequently. Just find someone that knows a little about karts to go with you when you check them out. But you wont regret getting one.
Why do you say that? Its actually a very common place to mount them. Just look at some other vidoes on here. Or better yet to go a track and have a look around. Its not the only place to mount it but its more common than you might think.
But if I were you I would mount it on the head of the motor, That's what I do with my Honda CR 125 shifter I have, I think it takes too long to change the lines and everything when you do a motor switch, So I mount everything on the motor so it all comes off in one piece.
The problem with mounting the fuel pump so far away from the engine is that the pulse-line going to the pump to drive it is so long. This effecively increases the interior volume of the crankcase and reduces the ammount of charge going to the cylinder. Everything possible is done to reduce interior crankcase volume in a high-performance 2-stroke.
Otherwise, a BEAUTIFULLY detailed and well prepared kart! Congratulations.
Wow you really know your karts. Yeah its a 01 chassis with a 00 Yamaha YZ125 motor, its reliable and parts are cheap and easy to get(the motor). How much did that 07 chassis set ya back?
the chassis is a 2007 RS7 it cost me 4800 EUROS(7400 US) and 3000EUROS(4600 US) for the engine. Plus another 900 EUROS for the quick shifter(I shift gears by pressing buttons on the steering wheel, something like an F1 shifter,it is much easier and a lot faster because i never miss a shift and i don't lift the gas to shift!! you have to see it in action.check out my other videos in a few days at "geobaba"
Is a vacuum operated fuel pump. If you pause the video at :51 the round silver thing is the fuel pump. The blue line you see on the back of it is the vacuum line, the line on the left going into it is from the fuel tank and the line going out the right is obviously going to the carb, but also Ts off for a return line to the tank for excess fuel. Thats the line that is running under the fuel pump.
where exactly do you pull the vacuum from.the carb? im building a kart with an xr200 motor on and dont have any ports on the carb to draw from.thinking about tapping the intake manifold(between carb and block).any ideas???
hey fordpower42388, i've built a kart with an xr200 motor. i dont know about you, bout im not going to race the thing so i just mounted a tank higher than the carb. that way it gravity feeds. it seemed to be runnin fine before i tore it down and gave it a rebuild. i havent put it back in yet. anyway, i just thought that if you're not keen on racing, gravity feed is a cheap option. hope this is helpful in some way
yea i always had that as an option.i dont really plan on racing.but i have a shifter kart frame.i made my own motor mounts and im just ot sure if i could find a place for the tank.thanks alot tho.how has the motor been to you????
sry for the late response...mate i just finshed a top end rebuild on the xr nd havnt put it back in yet. it was workin ok b4 but it was in a bad shape b4 the rebuid...i'll update asap if you still would like to know
ok mate i'll let u know..should get it done in 5-6 days time.. ive got 1 vid atm and even thought its short and at 8:30 at night, you can tell it was pretty bad..its come up really godd now though
k mate..put it all together today. ran quite rough for 5 mins as u wud expect after a rebuild..but after that it was goin sweet..no misses or anythin. ill try to post some vids in a couple days. if u got any questions, just ask. thanks
Yeah make sure you break in the motor properly. If you do you should get a pretty long happy life out of it. Did you wind up just doing a gravity feed for the fuel system? Cant wait to see video of it running.
yea mate. i did use gravity feed. the xr's are a fairly bulletproof engine, so i should get a fairly long life out of it. mate do you have any tips on brakes? my kart has a single rear hydraulic disc. they work fine for about 1 minute, then nothing at all. seals?? also, what is the best way to bleed them?

Yeah its a 2000 YZ125. It was never installed in a bike but is in fact the same motor and gearbox set up that is in the bike.

Dude some of the nicest karts are the road racing karts, much nicer than some of the oval track karts I've seen.

good luck trying to swap motors with your fuel pump on the back of your seat.
