@Eldarion92 and without Jerez 1997, he would be a 9 time champion, and without his crash in 1999, he would be a 10 time champion, and if he had driving for Ferrari in 2007 one year more, he would be a 11 time champion, instead of Kimi ...
@MegaJamie93 Thats right, if you pause this video at about 4 seconds thats where they went for a break. I saw smoke and didn't know if it was Schumacher or a backmarker, I spent the ad break hoping it was Schumacher as I'm not a fan myself and when they came back so it was him.
Don't forget Alonso had a broke engine in Monza and a wheel problem in Hungary. 14 or 16 pts lost. Schumi loose 15 pts Japan/Brasil. It's approximatly the same thing.
Difference ? Schumacher mistakes, i'm sorry. In the wall at Melbourne, his bad move in Monaco, cost him 2nd place on the grid, and to not change tires in Hungary, you can see the result with his suspension.
Schumi had a great career. But in 2006 (I repeat, IN 2006) Alonso was the best.
This is what he deserved, after so many years of having a reliable car. That year Alonso had a blown engine a few races before, so they were in equal terms after this well deserved blown engine to the dirtiest driver ever.
2006 was bad...... i wanted france to win the football wc...... they enter as underdogs and lose the finals after italy play dirty mind games with zidane........ schumi comes out of nowhere to hunt down alonso and this happens....... of all those races that michael won in 2002 and 2004, why didn't he have an engine blow? why did it have to be here at suzuka when it mattered most!!!
I remember seeing this as a kid. I was about to cry. It's funny because I used to hate Alonso because he was Schumi's rival, but now Alonso is racing for Ferrari.
OMG I remember crying like an idiot when this happened...My poor Michael. But he acted like a great champion after that, unlike Alonso who blamed his team for his engine breakdown a couple of races before. That shows the big difference between the two of them. Schumi forever!
i guess it made it more even after alonso had his engine blown aswell .. schumacher fans say he would have won without his bad luck .. what about alonso's bad luck?
i think if michaels engine wouldn't have blown he would have won and HE would be the one to take the lead in the championship by two points, and all he would have to do is at least finish ahead of alonso in interlagos. he had some bad luck at the end of 06 which did cost him the chance of winning the title from alonso. i was watching this race at midnight when i saw this happened and i was gutted too.
What? Michael and Alonso had the same points before this race. Michael had one more vicotry so he was Championship leader before this race. Alonso won, went up by 10 and so the only chance Michael had was winning and Alonso with 0 points. Then he would have been WC by one win. That's how it was...
Lol you're the retarded idiot. Alonso finished the season with 134 points. If Schumacher's engine hadn't failed, Alonso would have scored 2 less in Japan and ended the season with 132. Schumacher ended the season with 121 points. If his engine hadn't failed he would have scored 10 more points, ending the season with 131. If the engine hadn't failed Alonso would have had 132 points to Schumacher's 131. You are a retard.
@209PH Yeah but alonso had a engine failure in moza 2 race before this. So it was really unfair for schumacher to win title. It was a payback for alonso as schumi had also an engine failure in japan. Which I believe it would happent. It must. I was so glad cos schumacher are a fucking cheater idot!! and Alonso is the best. What r sugest in MSC would had 131 and Alonso 132. If it wasnt for engine failure in monza he would get another 6 point which really stat would be 131 vs 138 sound much better
When Alonso is going to retire from Formula One, his impact upon the sport will be acknoledged with a small footnote in the history books of Grand Prix racing, while MSC's profound records will be there for GENERATIONS TO COME: Welcome to REALITY, my envy and jealousy-inspired princes of MEDIOCRITY. Schumi drove circles around the entire competition in Brazil, driving the fastest race lap (about 3/4 sec faster than the fastest race lap of race winner F. Massa), and would have clearly won his 8th title. In 2006 he was also voted DRIVER OF THE YEAR!!!!
No it didn't cost him the title. Do the maths. With the failure Schumacher lost 10 points and Alonso gained 2, so a net difference of 12. Alonso won the title by 13 points. So he would have still won by a point if the failure hadn't happened.

When that happened, I stood up for 10 minutes in disbelief..coz Michael's Ferrari was normally very reliable, & to witness that his car's mechanical failure happened at one of the most crucial moment like that..& the fact that his last engine failure happened after 58 races without any major mechanical gremlins.
I remember seeing this live from my dorm room with my friends. This engine essentially failure cost him the championship. Ah well, I actually like Fernando Alonso lots more now than I did back then. I didn't want him to win back then, but he's a deserving world champion.
well, but there might have been some teamorders with Felipe Massa (maybe to slow them all down, Michael would have been able to pass them, because of superior top-speed) come into play.

I don't get all the crap Alonso gets for being lucky. I mean, Mika Hakkinen won in '99 when Schumacher was injured for nearly half the season and no one seems to give him shit for it.
i would like to put my hands on the motherfucker hobbs, biased piece of shit, lurid scambag,i was wacthin the race that day,and still remember hoobs irony about ferrari and only ferrari, because speed tv it's owned by lurid biased british.oh god please god i beg thou, let me find hobbs on my way.......
They're not the British commentators. The British commentators (who are massively Hamilton biased) were Martin Brundle and James Allen. These are the commentators for Speed TV, the channel that shows F1 in America.
For the record, it's Bob Varsha, former British racer British Hobbs and former F1 mechanic Steve Matchett. Personally, I prefer them a heap more than the British ITV crew, they're just so much more informative and less biased.
are you stupid ? of course they will be biased toward Lewis, British commentators will focus on the British drivers!, you going to tell me that in spain that the commentators over there don't go nuts of alonso? Italy ferrari? Poland Kubica?
Oh this I realise. Problem is they don't just commentate in England - the ITV/BBC is shown in other countries like Australia. Because they've got a worldwide audience, not just a British audience, they should be more balanced.
If in Australia we had Australian commentators constantly saying how great and amazing Mark Webber was, I'd get jack of it pretty quick.
bye bye title arogant alonso which his wave schumi best for ever almost his career finished in top 3 91: he was 14 cause he start half way season 92:3 place 93:4 place 94:1 place 95:1 place 96:3 place 97:2 place 98:2 place 99:5 place because broke his lagg missed 6 races 2000:1 place 2001: 1 place 2002:1 place 2003:1 place 2004:1 place 2005:3 place 2006:2 he is the greatest of all time 91 wins 68 poles no argue about it every one knowes it
Massa was so unlucky at hungary. I thought he was gonna win it. My mum actually said just before it cut to him blowing up "Hes won". I blame her, she jinxed him.
i think it was more a laugh out of shock that it had happened, lets bear in mind it had been something like since Hockenheim 2001 since Michael had, had a technical failure and lets be honest what happened was a bit of a shock.
Yeah. ITV are far too 2Pro-lewis" Anyone that has followed F1 for a while, like myself, im sure dont want to just to hear about lewis. Im british, and i want a british driver to do well. But i dont like lewis. His attitude, i just dont like it.

@Eldarion92 Alonso lost a wheel in Hungary while leading and one engine in Monza in 3rd place.
After China Alonso and Schumacher tied points 116.
Without engine blow it would be: Schumacher 126, Alonso 124.
After Brazil: Alonso 132, Schumacher 131.
So Alonso was the true champion in 2006.
Without Alonso's problems Alonso would have a score of 150+ pionts. He lost 10 points in Hungary and 6 in Monza

And here - the race after - Schumacher has an engine failure witch I believe was even longer ago than Alonso!
But is must have felt even worse for Alonso, having his failure at Monza of all places, and being laughed at by 100.000 tifosi!
Anyway: a great close battle between two great drivers and two great teams...that what we all want to see!

I don't get all the crap Alonso gets for being lucky. I mean, Mika Hakkinen won in '99 when Schumacher was injured for nearly half the season and no one seems to give him shit for it.
se7en00110111 3 years ago 3
Gutting!!! Remember ITV took a break just as it happened! Schumacher was the greatest :)

Just bad luck. Sometimes these things happen even for Ferrari.

Michael have driven fantastic in the last half of the season and was finalley leading the hampionship.
And had the title in his bag. it was just soo unfortuante.
Michael the real champion of 2006.

Poland Kubica?
nit85head 3 years ago
Oh this I realise. Problem is they don't just commentate in England - the ITV/BBC is shown in other countries like Australia. Because they've got a worldwide audience, not just a British audience, they should be more balanced.
If in Australia we had Australian commentators constantly saying how great and amazing Mark Webber was, I'd get jack of it pretty quick.
motu34 3 years ago
hold on who fault that?? you can't blame them for that.
Australia could always send there own commentators to the races or have commentators in studio if they can't afford it.
nit85head 3 years ago
Not to mention they're the best commentators that SPEED has.
TruenoandLevin86 2 years ago
There not english. They sound more like a bizzare blend of american and australian.

Nice piece of arrogance shown by the lucky Alonso. Schumacher outclassed him at Suzuka 2006.

Us British viewers didn't see this due to our broadcaster ITV cut to adverts (as usual).

Schumacher blows up just before win. Massa blows up before win. Kimi blows up on last few laps in Spain. All from Ferrari.

Massa was so unlucky at hungary. I thought he was gonna win it. My mum actually said just before it cut to him blowing up "Hes won". I blame her, she jinxed him.

Yeah he worked so hard for it. His last race was brilliant. Copming back from virtually a lap down. Ace driver, he will never be forgotten.

Who are these idiot commentators?
There was nothing funny in this moment. Maybe it may be funny when the yanks drive round and round in circles and crash into a wall.
cfc18882000 3 years ago
i think it was more a laugh out of shock that it had happened, lets bear in mind it had been something like since Hockenheim 2001 since Michael had, had a technical failure and lets be honest what happened was a bit of a shock.
LukeStanton91 3 years ago 3
Actually these commentators are better than ITV because they're not biased towards anyone, unlike James Allen who only likes Lewis.
Anime998877 3 years ago
Yeah. ITV are far too 2Pro-lewis" Anyone that has followed F1 for a while, like myself, im sure dont want to just to hear about lewis. Im british, and i want a british driver to do well. But i dont like lewis. His attitude, i just dont like it.
