@Avatarmind The world of Lemony Snicket's works is a strange one, far from identical to our own. The books are set in "modern America", but not the modern America we know. It definately has some Victorian England traits.

I... I watched this movie years ago, and even now at 16 THIS STILL PLAYS IN MY HEAD when I'm performing any kinds of mischief XD Gods I love this movie, but I wish it had covered more of the original story... =/

i really liked the movie, but i think that the end (with the wedding and everything that they change a little) makes it difficult for making other movies. for more, the actors have grown a lot since the movie....

but for sure, i would definitly LOVE to have other movies. :)

I'm very disappointed to here that they aren't going to make another series of unfortunate events movie because of the actors growing too old so they'd have to find another baby to play Sunny which just wouldnt be the same

They did make any more movies because this movie did so horrible and got such bad reviews. I'm thinking its because they picked Jim Carey to play Count Olaf instead of someone seriously sinister. Imagine if jim carey played professor snape? he'd wreck that too.

but actually, reading the books, you can see that count olaf is COMICALLY sinister, Jim carrey in fact did a perfect role to count olaf, expecially some moments in the book we couldnt imagine better actor to such ridiculous scene

@MrKlausbaudelaire Even though he is comically sinister, It isnt because the character is being funny. Its because Lemony Snicket wrote the scene in a comical way. The character of Count Olaf is dead serious in pretty much every scene he's in in the book. Dont be tricked by the flair of writing into thinking anything other than Lemony snicket is fantastic at making horrible things sound funny with his vocabulary. As a writer myself, I can tell you its true. Go re-read it.

@shazam15 Believe me Jim Carrey can be Sinster I haven't you heard of The Cable Guy He was crazy and evil but Scripts Retricted him from being quite evil and Sinster because Jim Carrey can be very evil but honestly The Book Count Olaf is better then Jim Carrey's because they toned it down the only reason

@MrKlausbaudelaire To be fair, every long running children's series that has been released for the past ten years has been called "the new Harry Potter." None of them have quite managed to even hold a candle to it. As much as I love The Series of Unfortunate Events, Harry Potter is still the best.

of course, but when the SoUE were launched, there wre like, only 3 HP books, while SoUE launched a massive amount in one shot, dotn surprise me ppls liked it so fast to turn back to HP when the story got bigger and more epic, but something I like in SoUE rather than HP is those melancolic way of Lemony to write, it always cracks me up xD

actually he does, but they made kalus only putting the glasses to read, so they could just make the glasses break when kalus trip due the glasses slippibng out his pocket or getting crushed on the fall :3

It was a good movie, but it was trying too hard to be a Tim Burton-ish film. I bet this movie would've been badass if Tim Burton directed it (And we'd probably get multiple sequels already). And Jim Carry as Count Olaf seemed more like a joke to me. Imagine Johnny Depp as Count Olaf. Now that would be crazy.

ooow yea, Tim Burton would obviouslly make an awsome version, but about Jim Carrey, I think he kiiinda fits, cuz in a lot of parts in the book, Count Olaf is more a joke than a villain (can you imagine someone better to dress himself as shirley or detective Dupin than Carrey?)

Jim Carry's role will take the spotlight and be expected, while the Baudelaire children take a side role. Jim Carry is a good actor, it just wasn't right to put him in a movie that's meant to be dark and full of mystery. It's like taking Jim Carry and putting him in Harry Potter or Pans Labyrinth.
