  • YOUNG GURU IZ A GENIUS!!!

  • ACE DA YOUNGIN....... tell guru to holla at him

  • god.. great interview.. but the worst sound quality...

  • Awesome video - thanks for sharing! Respect.

    -G

  • wow i respect guru alot more because of this

and hes very rite about the rock and country stuff its all out there and much easier to find out more info about other genres but hiphop

  • I watch this video on the regular to inspire me as an up and coming recording artist. Thanks Coach. Is there a way that you could hear any of my material?

  • Heyy Steve here... that's a very educative video and Guru sure knows what he talks about. I've been following dude's various videos on youtube and I'm more than a fan.

Question real quick: On minute 2.49 when he talks about him looking for a management at the time, there's a name of a producer that he mentions which ain't too clear for me. He says as to who managed "_____"?? Please let me know and I'll really appreciate.

  • watch?v=cBtYGh8NpwQ

  • "young guru.." I DONT care if this cat can make beats ..it is a crime that his name is young guru? wtf... in that case/....call me young chuck d..

  • major props for this vid, guru is a genius on the boards

  • Guru is brilliant. That's why he's working with the best in the industry.

  • great video bruh

  • I heard good and bad reviews about Fullsail and other institues.. so my question is how does one go to get educated.. Mentors are in short supply nobody is teaching "us" the younger generation.. so the older hip-hop heads take it out on us.. we reach out but they ain't passin on the knowledge

  • @TCOMrecords wat did u hear about fullsail ...im thinkin bout goin there

  • @TCOMrecords the internet is your library

  • this fool calls himself young guru

wtf cant use guru as his name theres already a guru and that guru is a legend "gangstarr"

  • This fool? Stop hating man. Gimel is one of the better young engineers in the industry right now. There's not many producers out there who have the skills, or better yet the education to Master tracks for final press. Howard University School of Communications stand up!!

  • And Mike G from the Jungle brothers used Mike G's name from the Beastie Boys but hes not being a Bitch about it.

  • Good stuff!

  • Good video

  • Full Sail Rocks Go There and you will def become famous

  • any of you cats go to institute of audio research? thinking about going there.

  • I like the video. You know what you are talking about. One thing I found odd was your monitor placement. Anyway, what console is that? Soundcraft Ghost? Also, do you use a lot of out board EFX, compressors, gates.........ect? Or do you use RTAS plugins from protools? Or both? Do you think a plugin compressor is as good as an out board comp? Also, are you using seperate mic pre amps from the ones of the console? Do you use the HD 192 digidesign interface? What vocal mic do you have in the studio?

  • Thanks 4 the comments..

Guru uses a combination of plugs, & certain industry standard gear when he's in a major lab..

... dynamics gear (gates, compressors) as well as delays, reverbs..

    But, they use plugs also...

re: comparison, conduct A-B comparisons of your gear/plug-ins, and see which sound better for which applications/uses...

Yes, the desk in his studio is a restored Soundcraft..I don't recall the model...

yes, he is using seperate mic pre's

He used to use a Neuman

  • could I just ask why your monitors are sitting behind the mixing desk, with the woofers being partially covered up by the top of the desk? Hardly the best place for your monitors.... interesting interview though !

  • Funny how the in-depth videos based on the roots of the culture get a lot less hits.

    Its good though..

  • NimaSun:

It's cool....audio engineering isn't something many, many people are seriously interested in...

It's more of a niche audience...no worries though....we'll keep bring information and quality information to audiophiles everywhere...

May The Frequency Be with You....

    Peace.

  • damn coach...did ur thang with this vid...feels good to see a quality vid on youtube..

  • R:

Thanks yo..stay tuned...we are working on an Intro to Audio Engineering DVD to provide a solid conceptual foundation for aspiring audio engineers..

  • spoken like a true engineer I love the fact that your successful with your craft and very humble

  • FullSail in the buildin!..wooo

  • Rockville Md...Stand up

I also wen to Omega Recording Studio for Engineering Classes...WE teach Pro tolls HD Engineering in te Washington D.C area

  • Cool..do you know Cephas Jackson?

  • @HLordz301 DMV up in this biatch... MoCo all day!

  • great to see young African American brothas who can talk articulately about their craft!!!

  • Thanks fam...we got that part covered..

Side note: we first crossed paths at Howard University in Wash, DC

  • Why would he paint his studio pink and green....?......Everything else looks cool......but that paint job makes me want to vomit !

  • It's not Pink Homo

  • Beg your way in ahaha..You don't need all the engineering know how to be on top. Lotta cats got in by connectiion...not skill. marv4976 with a pc, pro tools and reason..i can make the same shit u do in your multimill studioz. Cauz da skill countz. Respect pc producerz. 1

  • FUCK YEA!

  • I dig the video. I'm currently a producer who is looking to further my knowlege of audio. Any suggestions?

I want to study at SAE in Atlanta so that I can get a better understanding of frequencies, compressors, and more.

I don't want to be limited to JUST music. I'd like to work with live audio, scoring for movies, sound for video games, and MORE!

Anyway, thanks for posting this. It's inspiring.

    Peace famlee

  • u r in the right path bro dont let nobody tell u that u r waisting ur time taking classes the industry right now is flooded with out of the box producers they have a pc and protools with reason and fl studio and they call them self producers bahh engineering is more than music u can score music for movies video games and the hole nine yard i go to iadt in tampa florida wanted to go to sae too but miami is to far away for me and full sail in orlando only offer an associate degree keep it up bro.

  • wuts good u ever thought of goin to full sail?i go the there for Recording Arts..its a really good school..you should check it out

  • yo i attend the SAE nashville location... its a great program, if u are serious about "engineering", as well as production, look more into it,BE BLESSED

    EDDIE WHITELAW

  • Kyle,

You're on the right track by considering a reputable school...chose a program that fits your goal and budget..

In the meantime, Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc. are great outlets for books about audio engineering...

Also, search online for tutorials re: specific areas you are interested in...

  • Young guru....slept on. he's crazy. Top 3

  • Smart dude!!! I love to hear him preach about music!!

  • Thanks for tuning in...

    Yea, he's definitely knowledgable...

Stay tuned...next interview post: Ariel Burojow, Westward Productions..

  • Great Video... I've went through most of those same situations from schooling, engineering, etc... I will present to professor if thats ok... It would be great to hear more from him. Appreciate the honesty and extra knowledge. I would like to meet some great engineers, but the school is holding back alot of information causing us serious engineers to lose focus. so if you have any help, etc... please do let me know...

  • D:

Thanks for the comments...sure, feel free to share the interview as well as the information..

Good luck with the moves you're making..

BYW, next interview: Ariel Burujow, Westward Production....definitely another knowledgeable cat behind the scenes...

  • Dell,

    thanks for your comments...

Currently, we're working on an Intro to Audio Engineering DVD that will be full of very useful information..

    stay in tune

  • a great informative video learned alot from this

    thanks

  • J:

    thanks fam...

Look for more from YG, as well as interviews with more prominent studio engineers behind the boards...

  • I like what you did with this vid coach..informin us not-so-industry cats about the game.

Im an underground artist, I really just like making instrumental tapes of my own work but I like being an upncomer in the game as well...it's like a challenge to me comin in as a "beatmaker" and proving myself to these people.

I'm in college and I've considered switching to audio engineering, instead of mechanical engineering that i'm doing now. Big change right? haha

    peace

  • Great Interview! ...Guru Knows his stuff...Sharp guy!

  • Boy was that good. Some of yall are stupid for mentioning audio quality on a frikkin Youtube post. I wish would TheCoach would delete that ignorant shit. Props to Guru and TheCoach man. Yeah, and Guru is very smart and articulate I wish I could've been there man.

  • Big,

    Thanks homie...

Look out for more from Young Guru this year...

We're working on some video tutorials this year...

They'll consist of technique style vids focused on production, recording, and mixing using popular software...

Also, subscribe to my channel so you receive alerts when I post...

Next posts will be part 2 of my interview with Giz and an interview with Arsonist of the Heatmakerz...

    Peace...

  • propz...that sounds really interesting

  • You should at least drop the beat in the background...

  • What's good?

    Thanks for the comment..

Sometimes we add tracks, or beds...I need to go tighten the audio up for this interview anyway...

    you make beats?

  • yes sir...

  • Would you be interested in proving a track for a bed?

  • Nice interview! Young Guru, is definitley a beast and great questions....

    Amon-Raw Records

  • They're interviewing a major audio engineer, and the audio quality of the interview is awful.

Ironic and sad. I couldn't even bring myself to listen to the whole thing.

  • Yea, we never mixed the audio...we plan to release a commercial DVD on all our our interviews, so much of what you see from us on YouTube are rough versions...believe me though, we noticed it way before you did...but most people are used to low quality web video, and gain something from the interview anyway...

    thanks for the comment...

  • yeah, i had to strain to hear it all, but that's a classic interview bro. keep building.

    g(Riot)

  • What's good..

Yea, I need to go and tighten the audio and re-post..

    thanks for the support though...

  • great interview

  • Thanks...I'll be posting another in the next week or so...

    Stay In Tune...

    -The Coach

  • i fuckin luv this guy
