  • Very interesting..

  • I am very happy to see the vidoe after you give this Gyroscopically stabilized CD player in microgravity

  • I Love The Video It Can Increase My Knowledge Gyroscopically stabilized CD player in microgravity

  • Steady I Really Like This Video Gyroscopically stabilized CD-player(s) in microgravity onboard the International Space Station.

  • Good, I like that you share this video Gyroscopically stabilized CD-player(s) in microgravity onboard the International Space Station, I wish success always

  • Nice Video Gyroscopically stabilized CD player in microgravity That You Share , So Very Nice Thanks You

  • I Really Like The Video From Your Gyroscopically stabilized CD-player(s) in microgravity onboard the International Space Station.

  • Your Video Is Very Useful Sharing Gyroscopically stabilized CD-player(s) in microgravity onboard the International Space Station

  • This is a great video

  • you have some great stuff here

  • I want my tax money back

  • Well. . .that would be great. . .if we actually used CD players anymore.

  • just open the hatch

  • When i'm going to space, the first thing I wil bring is duct tape

  • wow- great gyroscope

  • C..D.. Player? what is this technology?

  • apple headphones come with retard, walmart cd players?

  • Thank you Nasa! this is information of high value!!

  • Cool!

I'll have to try this next time I go to space! :)

  • but will it blend?

  • Awesome Physics!

  • EFFING SAKE it took him SO long to take those headphones off, Jesus Christ

  • @drewerX

    LOL !

I know! That was driving me batty!

    Too funny.

  • Check out Zero-Propellant Maneuver if you like this.

  • shit nasa can't even afford ipods these days

  • The 3 cd-players taped together are stable, when he pushes them it must be the space station that moves.

  • lol tape

  • IPOD

  • TRANSFORMERS !!!

  • Imagine what you could do with 5 cd players :P

  • @jacktheripper0194 you'd want 6 .. 2 for each axis

  • @iexusuxei Ah... okay? lol makes sense

  • is this what we're paying them for ?

  • why take 2 identical cd players into space?

  • I would have so much fun in space doing pointless shit like this.

  • @supdenfoosukka Seeing this makes me wonder just what the fuk astronuts do up there on the space station. No wonder no one seems to care when a shuttle launches like they did the first time man landed on the moon.

  • @UpcomingJedi Ya the moon didn't have much to show us but Mars is already planned out but it's fucking dangerous and expensive. The outlook on it only gives us a 35% chance of completing it without a hitch. It's the return home that's the hardest. Come 2030 news of the trip might spread. Maybe then people will be appreciative of the space program.

  • @supdenfoosukka Your arguement will carry more weight if you clean up your language.

  • @tdspilman oh I don't care. If you're looking for proper grammar on the internet good luck.

  • @tdspilman lol i just realized what I wrote. oh Well I still don't care. Take it or leave it.

  • ¿What would happen if he you just increase the nutation to the limit when it exceds the angular moment of the cd? ¿If he hits stronger the cd it proceeds chaotic?

  • how about placing a heaver disk of metal in the CD player

  • hes said he's not satisfied by the performance of the platform.. .

what kind of "performance" did he expect to see from 3 taped cd players?!

  • @0verunity he hoped that it would stay still or at least not tip over.

  • I'm supposed to be doing an essay right now, WHY IS THIS SO ENTERTAINING?!

  • now Nasa can develop space camera drones. to survey the hull and recover without using fuel.

  • idk why but this makes me lol

  • totalllly amazing work thanks

  • iam guessing people have said this already, but wow. all this time and money spent to send this blokes into space and there show us how a fuckin cd player reacts in zero gravity.. wow..

  • @sony040 Then ask yourself how much money is needed to send some huge-fancy-ass-weapons and vehicules in Afghanistan. To what end ? Killing people ? Which means that you do accept the fact that your government is picking money from your wallet in order to kill people. But you do not accept that the same government picks money from you to make discoveries about where your grandchildren will probably have to live because we're destroying our home-land ?

  • @sony040

Oh no, one guy did a neat demonstration of gyroscopic stability on his spare time while in space. The horror!

  • @sony040

I doubt you realise this but this actually helps research in several ways.

  • I don't care what anyone says. This is money well spent.

  • @AtilaCXL money?how much?

  • It cost $13,500 to send those CD players into space...

  • @TheMTAguy 13,500 are you sure ?

  • zero-G hair. it aint a good look.

  • The things these astronauts come up with. XD

  • WTF are they doing with in space with duct tape and crappy C.D. players.

  • @chollonerd duct tape in case the space station brakes.. so they can Red Green it back together , and crappy CD players to listen to crappy red neck music while they do it ! :/

  • '

take off unplug jackphone and see CD player alone

  • @bestamerica i think they have to have it in there becuase it wont spin without it.

  • AND...If you had 3 ears, you could listen to three songs while you drilled.

  • much funnier than a mp3 player :D

  • what's a cd player ?

  • spending money on NASA is an option due to the fact that we get nothing out of spending on it besides the advancement of space science, which is a title. i truly do love to see us expanding our knowlegde of the heavens, and i do disagree with obamas and bushes budget on the nasa program, but we are stil spending billions. so everyone calm down. its a tragedy, but its also an option of the U.S. because you gain no money from it while spending billions of the tax payers money on the space program.

  • @QwukeStudioz Nothing out of it? Are you sure? GPS, Internet, Satellite TV, LED's, Teflon, Meteorological tracking, Biomedical monitoring equipment, Cell phones, super-efficient solar cells, the list goes on and on. If not for the space race and current space endeavors, you would not be sitting in-front of your computer right now calling bullshit to the cause that allowed you to call bullshit.. There wouldn't even be a silicon valley without the space program.

  • @QwukeStudioz PWND! :P

  • @QwukeStudioz HA! oops, except for all that stuff SakuraHaruta pointed out.

  • you don't need expensive equipment to do experiments without gravity... well except a space station in orbit

  • #benwl XD

  • I just want to know what's on the CD here.

  • microgravity is awesome. :D

  • Is this really what they are doing up there?

  • @SCAREDBANANA

Yes, they also try to find out ways how to drink coffee out of a "cup". Cool isn't it? ;)

  • Bored-in-space,com

  • In space, no body can hear ur abba cd XD

  • I got an idea how about a headband torch does exactly the same job plus you dont piss off the crew cuz they dont know where there CD players have gone!

  • I like the immensity and ambition of the NASA projects. Money well spent!

  • @psickoO Dude NASA has a tiny budget. Think about it, this test was probably done in there spare time, the cd players cost what? $50 at most. Jesus Christ, and even then NASA just isn't American other countries like Russia have contributed to the space station and pay for some of it. Seriously you pay .0003 of a cent to for such an amazing thing. I wish they had 50x the budget that have now.

  • Well, NOW i'll remember to bring three CD players and a flashlight next time I go into space.

  • is this in space

  • does people seriously think the effect a gyroscope in zero gravity is irrelevant to our progress? tards.

  • Science = FTW

    Complaining about science = Gtfo

  • Well, they did, now I don't need to... childhood question 1,000,302,010 answered.

  • also, omg a tought occured to me! thats why ufo s are disc shaped! *gasp!*

disclaimer; this comment was ment to be sarcastic and made purely with boredom by a person who has absolutely zero knowledge of physics...

  • it gets boring in space i suppose...

but anyway.. this is still interesting to see...

  • video courtesy of 1992

  • Sony Walk-man on earth...Sony float-man in space!

  • That is so cool! You should try just getting the cd spinning alone without the player and see how stable that would be.

  • Great, my life is complete now, I couldn't have lived without knowing that...

What the hell are you doing taking CD players into orbit? Are you nuts?

Here's a question for you... 'What are the additional energy cost involved in placing those CD players into orbit compared to small MP3 players?'

  • @EnVeeTee are you in envy because you will NEVER go into space? Im sure you wont say that if you were asked to be an astronaut and to take CD players into space, though that will never happen with you, clearly.

  • @EnVeeTee Given the age of this video, probly not as much energy as it would have taken to buy an MP3 player that is reliable, rip all their songs to mp3 and hope they all fit on the device...

Oh and don't forget the gyroscope you would have to take as well to demonstrate what they did in this video lol

  • love it

  • Duct tape... Now, where is the WD-40 ?

  • NASA is wasting tax dollars on a gyroscopic cd player instead of using that money to put an American on Mars.

  • @tbagin3d why would you want an american on mars, we would just make a war. we would fight anything. rocks. volcanos.

  • @tbagin3d americans are already on mars and actually been there for a while you just dont know about it

  • @mvlady You know how?

  • @mvlady Yes because making claims without any proof is really reliable.

  • Would that be too much trouble to just attach the CD player to your belt?

  • Lol its 2006, c'mon NASA.. where are the mp3 players?

  • nice guns mr spaceman

  • haven this guy nothing more to do up there???! ...is for this we pay to NASA.

  • @gafrancisco nice english dude

  • i'll be sure to take one next time i go to space

  • If you play a heavy metal cd, the stability goes away

  • the cd player floats to the excape hatch "nooo! don't go in th...." *achievement unlocked : causing everyones death on a space station XD

  • Tax money well spent!

  • nothing like playing by the loading door. *cd player hits latch, everyone gets sucked out*

  • id like to see something like this made with cutting-edge technology giving it an effective use as a tool. i just imagine it serving as a light or camera connected to the astronauts shoulder by a cord during an EVA :)

  • even in space duct tape holds everything together :D

  • Duct tape use #1,426,308: taping CD players together... in space

  • I want his job

  • WHO NEEDS 3 CD PLAYERS?????

  • @LightweightJackal 3 guys at the same time?

  • what about building the gravity space shoutle?

  • They don't make sense in current sizes yet. Astronauts would experience a nausea by the radical changes inside their space habitat regarding centrifugal and coriolis force. Just think of it. Your feet would actually have a higher velocity than your head.

  • To all this bitching and moaning about the nasa budget, it is a whopping 0.6% of our taxes. That's 60 times less money than I spent on our military abroad.

In the words of New Scientist Magazine: Science in interesting, and if you don't agree you can fuck off!

  • @jtaylor432 What would be interesting is if the US took their military budget and put it into science and development instead

  • @jtaylor432 yep, I'd rather see my tax dollars spent on space exploration, even if the boys on the ISS screw off like this from time to time, than say a welfare queen living off the govt. dole.......

  • @Darthbelal bob dole? im not following that last word.

  • @QwukeStudioz Dole - a (1) : a giving or distribution of food, money, or clothing to the needy (2) : a grant of government funds to the unemployed

Nothing to do with the ex-Presidential candidate........

  • @Darthbelal because bob dole is bad ass, just letting you know.

  • @jtaylor432 yeah, it's a fucking crime they scap all the nasa budget but spent many times that killing people across half of the globe...

You wouldn't know we're the most intelligent animal by looking at our actions... :-(

  • @jtaylor432 comprehension of U.S. economy fail

  • @jtaylor432 the military is connected to NASA

  • Millions of taxpayer money to send this guy into space, and he's doing parlour tricks

  • @Nomoreidsleft And your sitting on youtube bitching about people doing something with their lives. Just shut up.

  • @sirachman I pay for my internet, and it costs the taxpayers no money.

  • Get back to work! Ok, maybe that one's too easy...

  • so this is why the ufo is round and spinning ......

  • That CD's doing the moonwalk :L

  • This is what you guys are actually doing up there?!? what a waste of time!!!! hahahahaha GIVE ME A SHOT.

  • @theufomusic what the fuck would you do, wank?

  • Thanks, those experiences have always been intriguing thought experiments that I wonder what would happen, three gyroscopes connected them to form the three spatial axes. And What if you build a cube with angular momentum pointing away from the face, what would happen? Would these increase stability? And all pointing out except one? I would really have fun doing those experiments in the absence of gravity! Or microgravity.

  • NASA - 100 million dollars spent on making a pen that worked in space.

Russia - 0 dollars spent because they used pencils.

Nasa - Uses CD players in space.

    Russia - Uses mp3 players.

Who's money are they spending - YOURS!!!

  • @bl3sst The problem is it's not "Yours" now, you were told where it was going and you paid it... so it's your "donation" and you knew where it went.

If you dont like it, move to a different country.

  • @bl3sst Russians just think logically and logic is not something that americans know very well...

  • @bl3sst

The whole "NASA" space pen urban legend has been proven to be false.

    Snopes (dot) com/business/genius/spacepen.asp

  • @saisumimen ? Try holding a ballpoint pen upside down for 10 hours, and then write with it. Now do the same thing with a space pen. What the fuck would make you think it's an urban legend? Because you read it on some stupid internet page?

  • @AlmostCommon

The "Space Pen" was invented by Paul C. Fisher (research his name online or in a book sometime). According to the Fisher Space Pen Company:

"NASA never approached Paul Fisher to develop a pen, nor did Fisher receive any government funding for the pen's development. Fisher invented it independently, and then asked NASA to try it. After the introduction of the AG7 Space Pen, both the American and Soviet (later Russian) space agencies adopted it."

    Sorry pal, you're dead wrong.

  • @saisumimen What? I'm dead wrong? That doesn't make any sense. I was telling a guy that the pen exists. You tell me who invented it, and then tell me I'm dead wrong about it existing? Please make sense, or, at least, please read the comment you're commenting on.

  • @AlmostCommon

sorry, my reply was meant for bl3sst... also, calm down.

  • @saisumimen You could always use a pencil. XD

  • @bl3sst And in 10 years russians won't be able to read what they wrote because the graphite has been rubbed off the page.

  • So, how many billions of Dollars have been wasted for this? ;)

    but still. Gyroscopes are great.

  • @Fusurugi Billions of dollars? You've been spending too much on CD players, man.

  • @Preeemo ha.

  • what is the point. kids from america loves this for sure

  • Problem with a three axis stabilization is that once again all the forces of gravity are pulling on the mass equivalently (or close to it).

You get the most bang for your tax dollar by only stabilizing one axis.

  • that was the stoopidest thing ive seen all day

  • Should try it out with some custom made depleted uranium discs instead of CDs. I reckon it would work at least a 100 times better.

  • your tax dollars at work

  • @DeathBringer9000 hye your up in space why not play around in no gravity?

  • Man, the things that are found out in space.

  • I'm trying to do it but I can't figure it out, I've broke 3 CD players already!!!

    :-P

  • @xjedi13x Go for the cheaper option and instead of breaking your CD players just buy a gyroscope and possibly pay attention during physics class (ask your teacher, most teachers love to explain things especially if they're from the science subjects like Chemistry, Biology, Physics and even Mathematics)

  • They are in space. They are actually in space.

    Make that stop being cool.

    They are in space.

  • if i had a third hand, mastibation would be the first thing i'd have in mind for it, rather than holding a fucking torch............

  • Why not just tape the flash light to your head like a miner's hat...? Don't overcomplicate what a third hand could be...lol

  • In space, no-one can hear your Cream CDs

  • Whats the protocol if nuclear war breaks out on earth, while you're in space?

  • @xthorpyx to float around until they die or a nuke smashes into them!

  • I remember when I used to use cd players

  • @LemonLimeLaughter can probably do the same thing with an ipod classic.

  • perfectly BADASS

  • Wow :-)

  • This is a video about people poking CD players in microgravity.

  • I'm very intrigued by the very bad quality of the audio.
