You're a WEAK atheist because you don't KNOW there's no god? No, you're not weak. Atheism isn't about knowing. It's about not BELIEVING.

You're simply an agnostic atheist. If you KNEW there was no god, you'd be a gnostic atheist. However, I don't think many are THAT arrogant.

@CodeofVideos Thanks for the comment. I think you misunderstand me. "Weak Atheist" is a term used to describe someone who is an agnostic atheist, wheras "Strong Atheist" is, similarly, a phrase used to describe a gnostic atheist, or someone who actively makes the claim there are no gods.

We use "weak" and "strong" because not everyone in the world understands "gnostic" and "agnostic" when in reference to atheism. The use of these terms are hotly contested in the community, but there you go.

Atheism is a lack of BELIEF in a god.. So what you mean by "weak atheist" is agnostic atheist..

Sorry, I meant NO god, not a/some god. So, to reiterate:

Weak atheism= Lack of belief in god(gods).

Strong atheism=The positive belief that there is no god.

@piratedebo While I agree that it's not necessarily prudent for an atheist to claim positively that there are no gods, I disagree that it is dogmatic. I think your phrasing comes from a misundertstanding of the definition of "dogma".

Webster's defines "dogma" as "a principle or set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true." There's no authority setting down the principles of godlessness, nor do I believe an atheist would be convinced that claim was incontrovertible.
