Another thing, if you are talking about "Professionalism" you should also LOOK professional, and I'm sorry to say but you are dressed like a homeless guy. I'm don't trying to be mean to you, my intention is NOT to insult you , but get your act together before attempting to make a video like this. By the way at least wipe off your sweaty shinny forehead, before shooting, it looks really bad and distracting.
Why in the heck you didn't use those nice lights on this video, and show only pictures of them, or turn the camera around to show them in action. You are talking about using professional lighting on your scenes and you are NOT using any in this video. I appreciate the fact that you are trying to teach something good to the youtube community, but please "practice what you preach". Nobody is gonna take you seriously.
lighting used to be extremely crucial, but now you can just change brightness, contrast, and gamma levels in video editing programs. You can also make lighting with knoll light studios and more for after effects.
@jonlarson88 Yeah, he does have an awful glare on his forehead. Needed a hair light behind him, but the set is too cluttered for that. And, the audio isn't professional quality, but at least it is distinct and understandable; not overpowered with rap crap! And, at least he's teaching some good aspects. I also complement him for limited camera movement; video, like the movies, means subject movement; not camera movement. Viewers don't want nausea from camera motion.
SURE... If you don't want interesting lighting that creates a moody atmosphere. (see: Fight Club, Seven, Road to Perdition, Blade Runner)
By the way, the lighting in this scene sucks. You've got this kind of vignetting effect in center frame and the lighting above you is too hard (which you say to avoid).
i have a video camera JVC GZ_HD7U, i like to shoot manually but the camera has no ASA (ISO) so that i can use a meter. how can i calibrate the meter? thanks joe mizzi
Wow I had no idea so many saw this. It's my first time viewing any of this. Well for the record I was asked by Expert village at the time to make this for them in 2007. I did not shoot this or light this or record the sound or edit this so really had no control over that end of it.

You also should pay attention to video editing, for example... never take two clips saying the same thing at different angles.... and then use both of them! lolol
So many complaints! Wow! I mean you guys posted this to help people who know nothing about lighting...why are so many people complaining? I thank you for the effort.
it is ironic how your doing an informative video on quality lighting and you have a huge brightspot on your head the entire video. pretty good tips nonetheless
Thanks for sharing this info. I'm interested in creating quality videos of local musicians for uploading to YouTube and other sites, and every bit of information helps. You also have a very nice manner in presenting the info.
Thanks, friend!

A couple things:
1. You have a hot spot on your head, if you had used a main and filler with and some powder on that shine you would've done better.
2. Real professionals don't use 3 point lighting, they use 4 point lighting. Main, filler, a Backlight, and a BACKGROUND light.
